As a newbie back in this sport after 14 years of just "toying around" I've found a great deal of information, motivation and humor on the forums. I've decided to become a part of journal-land mostly to make myself a bit more accountable--but also because I've come to respect the support that everyone seems to have for one another--something often lacking inside the gym.

Last season was my first officially back on the stage since 1999. I prepped for 4 shows and was so completely strung out both physically and mentally by the end that I REALLY enjoyed this year's off-season-by way of both body AND mind. I took first place in all 4 shows-though 2 were USBF (the competition was minimal) and 2 were NPC...which left me on top of the world.

So when I stared mentally prepping for this season I wondered which direction I should go in--stay with local stuff and continue to build my comfort on stage--or jump into a national show? With the introduction of WPD I figured it was as good a time as any to shoot for national.

Being green I have no idea what to expect or how (if at all) to alter my prep. My plan is to train and diet as hard as hell and be ready for anything on June 18th.

Yesterday we had a killer back workout-

Cable Wide-Grip Pulldowns (85/100/120/140x15) ss/Lat squeeze on pull down
Bent-over bb Rows (95/135/155/185x12-15)
Seated cable one arm row with stretch and reach over (25/25/40x15-12-10)
Kneeling Cable One-arm Lat Pull-overs (20/25/25x15)
High Cable Pulls-Close Grip(30/42.5/50/50x10 ss/10 reverse grip)
Straight Arm Pressdwns (50/57.5/65/65x15)
Hyperextensions-bw (3x15)

Calves-Standing raises (105x30 - 3 sets varied stance)
Seated (90/110/130x15)

The workout was great despite some trouble my stomach is having getting used to precomp diet again. While I eat fairly clean year-round, the extra fat in the off season works wonders . I'm getting used to taking Fiberlyze-an additional Fish Oil-and even more water. My body is not entirely agreeable yet lol

With the jump back into 5 days of 4AM cardio and the loss of snacking I am officially STARVING.

Legs this afternoon :yep: my fave!

Thanks! It's obvious from my pix that I would have to add some serious mass to compete at my height in fbb--I am 5'4 1/2. This off season I made some serious changes to my ham & glute training and think I've added some mass back there. I'm finally starting to learn my body and what works for my training...I also have a hard time bringing my conditioning in for legs. My diet has also changed a bit for this season--but I do my diet myself at this point and have yet to have anyone else look at it.

I have also been working on posing (what was I doing??LOL)

Hey girl, welcome! I see you live in Toms River... are you going to the NPC Jersey Shore on May 14th? It's the week before Jr USAs so that's going to be the first time my heels hit the stage this season. I looked at the application yesterday and didn't see women's physique so I don't know if Jason is having it or not. Anyway, let me know... it would be cool to meet! :)

Good luck on your journey!

Hi Stephanie!
Yes I will probably be at all the shows around here during Spring and Summer. I think he's hosting Muscle Beach again too? It would be great to meet you-are you competing in the Jersey Shore? If so I will totally cheer you on :)

We have a few local friends who may be as well. I love to come to prejudging but it's a bummer that you don't get to see the winner LOL Attending gets expensive.

Yesterday we hit legs something fierce

Warmup
Seated extensions 2 setsx20x40lbs
Seated ham curls 2 setsx20x70lbs

Smith Squats (5 Sets of 30-15wide stance/15close ATG)
95lbs-135-135-185-185

Reverse Hacks ss/Walking db Lunges
90-135-180-225 ss/15lb db

One-leg Lying Presses
45lbx20-90lbx20-90lbx20

Triple set
Lying Ham Curls/One leg pressdowns on assisted pull up machine/Incline db
curls
3 sets x 45lb x 70lb x 20lb db

Seated Extensions (20 seated all the way back-half reps ss/10 full)
(These burn like hell so I keep weight manageable)
50lbs-70-70

Abs-
Hanging raises 4x15
Knee roll-ins with foam roller.

My throat has been killing me--thanks to my children who bring home everything under the sun. It obviously doesn't matter that I've been teaching for 11 years and should have every antibody known to man???WTF? Apparently the crap they get in the 2 year old room is new :hypno:

Needless to say between that and my son getting up every hour on the hour last night I skipped AM cardio which will make it a necessity on Sat & Sun.

Diet's been tight--I feel leaner but the scale hasn't budged. Doing legs twice a week keeps my legs like water balloons (which I hope is the culprit for the broken scale LOL) but it makes a huge difference for me.

So good to find another mom who is competing this season. My kids are 10, 4, and 2, and like yours, mine are bringing home everything under then sun this cold season. We are all so SICK of being sick! Next comes pollen season - FUN!!

Looking forward to seeing some more killer WOs.

YES!!! My fave!!! I strung myself out last season dieting for a billion shows I couldn't train heavy or hard. It's my drug :) OMG --I dont know what Id do with three god bless you. Its a part time job trying to stay healthy, let alone stay in the gym!
I walked into my psycho doctor's office today and he started writing me scripts without looking at my throat once. At least he listened to my lungs :)

I guess I kind of do..! Then thanks for the compliment :) Her legs are insane. For years I was in fear of training them too hard b/c I was scared to let them get too big. I guess if you're a monkey--best to be a gorilla :yep:

I plan to get up tomorrow AM for cardio and abs and to train 2 friends of mine who are competing but Im whooped. My husband has me set to play World of Warcraft with him for the first time tonight. The last time he got sucked into the game I nearly took a sledge hammer to his fancy pc. Ever see those WOW youtube videos, where the gamer goes ape shit over a problem with the game? YAH well if you never knew anyone who played you need to see it firsthand-I figured I might as well join him so we can stay happily married-but Im an addict by nature so Im a bit nervous.

Anybody else married to a bodybuilder gamer dork? :)

45 mins cardio...a few bicep exercises, nothing too heavy b/c my shoulder is f&*n killing me. Good ab workout though.

We supersetted hanging leg raises with crunches on a decline bench holding 25lb plate. I need ab development PRONTO. I've been trying to use weight and hit them 2-3 times a week but I always slack.

Tryin to eat lighter today (whats that btw) so that I dont feel awful about cheating tonight...looking forward to sushi and Battle Los Angeles. ...and of course, somebody else to put my kids to bed :)

13 weeks from today! Last season I dropped any cheating at all after 6 weeks (and cheating meant extra pb)...this season I might stay clean from 10 on. If I speak it aloud Im committed LOL

Happy Monday--got on the scale to find that, regardless of the fact that I've jumped into my diet and 5 days AM cardio--I haven't shed a pound. I feel smaller and my clothes are starting to loosen a bit, but yet the scale has not changed. Hey I guess it could be worse--it could have gone up! LOL

Legs Day 1 (Rush workout--daughter had dance/had to tote someone elses child around too)

Extensions
Warmup-2 sets 20

triple sets x 10x30/40/50 (added 10lbs each set) ss/
split squat on smith 15x95/115/135 ss/
hacks 15x90/180/180

Leg Press
20x90
15x180
12x270
10x360 (as a woman who has had children I always dread going too heavy out of fear of straining my bladder lol)

Reverse Hack ss/SLDL ss/Seated Ham Curls
15x90/115/70
12x180/135/80
10x180/135/90

Single leg ham curls
3x15/40/50/60

Did AM cardio--it's in my plan for tomorrow as well.

Below is where I am--12 weeks out. I feel thick in my pix but know that I will suck down to nothing after several weeks on diet (as is usually the case)...so I have no idea what weight I will come in and/or whether I'm sticking with bb or moving to physique. The next several weeks shall tell my friends.

Thanks! Not sure how much progress I made this offseason though--I have to agree that legs are so friggin hard to come by if you weren't genetically gifted with the propensity for mass in that area. Runner's legs are hot! And believe me--there's been many a day that I've battled mine to look longer, slimmer and leaner--but for now I've submitted lol.

Yesterday I started the day with 4am cardio and went back for chest and bis at 4. I've definitely made some gains on chest this year--though I had dropped off training chest for awhile b/c I was scared to abandon what little breast I had--training won-boobs lost. Maybe one day I'll take the plunge and buy some :dunno:

Chest
Flat Bench
warmup 20x65
15x95
10x135
8x135
6x150

Incline Smith
15x95
10x135
10x135
12x115

Incline Hammerstrength
10x90
10x115
10x140

Seated Cable Crossovers
15x40
15x45
12x50
10x50/10x35/10x20

Bis (took it easy b/c I had done bis on Sat.)
Straight Bar
15x40/12x50/10x60/10x60/8x70

Seated Preachers
12x65
10x80
8x95
6x95/8x65/8x50

Cable Ropes
15x32.5
12x37.5 (hate these weird numbered weights lol)
10x42.5

Today I did cardio again--got to sleep in b/c i had a funeral to attend.

I switched up my supplements and started a new thermo--Spirodex though Im not convinced about the 'good mood' concept. It gives me a bit of heartburn--don't know how long itll last. It may soon be added to the years of thermos-gone-wrong cabinet in my kitchen lolol

I added in a green superfood supp into my post workout shake and I gave up the Fiberteq b/c it just gave me gas --whatever with that!

I started back on my regs-
lysine
multi (post workout)
ELAs
Biotin
Vitamin B
Glutamine

Still taking precontest Sizeon but its been screwing with my stomach so I might switch over to just straight Creatine in my shake. Good friend of ours works for Cellucor and gives a bunch of stuff I am going to try their C4 tonight preworkout --it's their new NO supp. Their last one made my head tingle lol. There are several containers of various brands of NO in our shelf-but what the hell--Im up for something new.

Lost a pound and a half woohoo...small successes! Im not sure that Im 100% ready for the mental strife that comes along with the weight loss--while each pound shows a leaner, tighter, more dry "me," I long to see gains that aren't water or bf. The life of a bodybuilder--something civilians would not understand...

Had a great back workout last night

Hammerstrength lat pulldowns
90x15/140x15/180x12/230x10 (varied close grip and wide)

Bent ovrr bb rows (3sets reg grip/3sets reverse)--pause at top
95x15/135x15x2/185x10x2/135x1

Wide grip lat cable pulldowns with horseshoe handles ss/lat squeezes
85x15/100x12/120x12

High cable ropes ss/low cable one arm rows
40x15 (half to facE--half to torso)/35x15
50x12/40x12
45x12/35x10

Calves -9 sets --standing/seated/donkey

Today my back feels thick and solid--super!

YES, I'm competing!! :) Would love to meet you if you come out for pre-j. I know what you mean because I do the same thing (only attending pre-judging unless I know someone in the show). It definitely adds up quick! Not to mention that when my bf competes, I usually have to buy a pre-j ticket, finals ticket AND backstage pass... Ends up being like $65 just to hang out backstage for the day and help him. Thankfully he's taking this year off! lol

Anybody else married to a bodybuilder gamer dork? :)

Yup, mine loves his PS3... but since we met, he uses it in waves. Like if a game he's been dying for comes out, he's all hardcore on it for a week or two til he beats the game, then dies down again. It never gets in the way of us spending time together though, or else I'd take issue with it. :p

And damn girl, you look fantastic! I get excited over half a pound too! Every little ounce counts in my book!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing the end result myself--and I'm totally stumped! LOL. As I start to drop water I can see I've made changes to areas where I needed it--but I don't carry the mass needed to compete at my height for fbb. I'm thinking that WP is going to be the way I go...but I don't know ... :)

I don't know what the hell I'm doing this year--I went to a posing clinic today in my area and I think I'm too big for physique. While I know my weight will come down and I will shrink...if I hold onto any of the size I think I built this year I may be sticking with fbb...which is fine but I don't think I can come down to lightweight (nor do I want to) and I certainly don't feel like I possess the muscle maturity for middle weight. Most girls my height are heavyweights--I was just in this for fun and now it's stressing me out LOL

Thursday I went in and did legs for the second time this week--which is paying off--and ran circles around Joe-he moves too slow and too heavy for me some nights anyway.

Lifefitness Squats (reg stance-not too deep-feet fairly wide) --mostly warmup
30x160
30x180x2
30x200

45 degree Squat Machine ss/walking db lunges (25lbs)
15x90/15
15x135/15
15x180/15
15x180/15 with weights/15 without

Hacksquats-wide stance ss/Reverse Hacks
10 lower half/10 full/15 reverse x 90
''/''/'' x 135 x 2

Seated Leg Press
20x150 (10 wide/10 close)
20x170
20x180

Seated Hamstring Curls ss/ Cable Kickbacks (10 lbs)
15x70/15
12x80/15
10x90/15

Seated Extensions-Seat pushed all the way back-20 half reps/10 full
These fucking kill my legs--I could punch someone when I finish the last rep of each set
x60
x70
x80

Did some abs

Today we did shoulders after the clinic-Regular workout
Hammerstrength Presses
Arnold db Presses
Uprights ss/db Lateral Raises
Seated front db raises ss/standing sides ouch
Smith Shrugs-4 sets

Did abs too--3 sets hanging leg raises & 3 sets decline crunches with 25lb plate

I feel myself getting leaner--my upper half is getting vascular already, my shoulders are getting striated-my abs look decent. I'm starting this contest prep leaner in the back as well--but I think that's mostly due to the fact that I finally learned how to train hams & glutes in a way that works for me...I need someone to give me the magic answer for getting my ass to lean out as quick as my upper half does WTF? any tricks because I'm down to try any exercise at this point lol... I know once the muscle comes it will start to happen on its own. I lack patience. And, not to mention, that since I started back on thermos I'm in full ADHD mode. One minute I'm obsessing over that, the next I'm over it.

The posing class was probably just what I needed. My contest pics do my physique no justice because my posing was all off. My fr dbl bicep was crooked and i squeezed down instead of up and out. Side chest I leaned fwd and stood lopsided. My feet were always in the wrong place and blah blah blah.

So as it stands, today I am 12 weeks out from..what the f. I don't know. My diet is straight--cardio is on 5 days AM/45mins +....which I plan to kick up...and my head it still spinning. I feel like I need someone more knowledgeable than I am (or maybe just more experienced bc I feel like Im already a walking bb encyclopedia) to give me some raw input on what I should be putting my effort toward.

Girl I have the same problem... upper body leans out wayyy before lower body. I'm still trying to figure out how to balance them so that they look like they belong to the same person, because most days I look like two different people if you look at me from either the waist up or the waist down. It's frustrating for sure!

Also, do you have a coach? I tried to scroll up and look for that, but I thought I remembered you saying you were doing your own diet. It takes sooooo much stress off your mind to have someone else in control of your diet and how much cardio to do, etc... it's better when you don't have to worry about looking at yourself objectively (since none of us ever do!) and someone else can assess what needs to be done there.

I always joke that someone stole my real ass and gave me this one LOL. My halves just don't match until the last week--and even then

No coach--I wasn't sure if I was that serious yet--but I guess I am huh? I was contemplating a diet coach for the last week this time around, esp. if I try fat loading instead of carb loading--I have someone in our area who I just asked to work with me and we haven't ironed it out yet.

Thanks freebird! It's never too late!! I am in awe of most of the women on these forums that are well into their late 30s and 40s. My husband's cousin is doing the suburban and he just turned 52 and looks insane. Age brings wisdom and dedication. Youth is wasted on the young--total cliche but I totally believe it :)

I'm currently at 136.5 (I have to be precise because it is not budging lol). I know that my only goal right now is to get under 125--which shouldnt be a problem, so that if I decide to go bb I will be in MW.

Most legs are a gift of good DNA, I believe, and I've fought against mine for 15 years. Im done. My husband always tells me ..If you're gonna be a monkey-best to be a gorilla ...he tells me to just let them be freaky.

Now everyone I see cant believe how huge they are..my girlie side struggles with that, of course. It'll be interesting to see what a mini dress looks like on me this summer.

No! Ugh! And when I put myself through the new poses I dont like them at all--the organization that ran the class isnt NPC--but it's a longshot trying to find anyone who does know anything definitive. I feel like I will no know until I get up on stage and/ or see the pix and it leaves me at a sincere lack of confidence. Time will tell.

It's funny--pictures and posing can be deceiving. If I don't widen my stance when I do a double bicep I appear a lot smaller. And if I don't split my quads, my legs look a lot smaller...but not "slim"-as would be preferred for figure. The next time I take pictures I will show both ways.

Cheated tonight but was totally boring. I saved my cheat meal for a party we had to go to and there really wasn't anything I wanted. I stuck with chicken--though not grilled and probably laden with fat or sugar from some kind of ingredient--and there were no good carbs that I wanted. So I had a big chocolate chip cookie, and when I came home and I let myself have a slice of toast and some salsa with my eggwhites. The slice of toast can do me in well enough on certain days...some friggin cheat!

Anyone buy the Omega 3 eggs regularly? I've been reading abt them but I haven't seen them in the store ( I usually buy my eggs at Costco and they aren't in the same section ). I'm assuming they are probably more expensive than regular eggs??

I decided that I am going to start lightening up my weights for my leg workouts and keep my reps as high as possible. I really pushed my leg workouts this off season with weights and I think I've managed to make at least somewhat of a change. I do wish my glutes would grow and tighten at the same pace. That being said--it is abnormal for my weight not to have budged in 3 weeks and I think the wheels are the culprit.

ANyone have any tricks for glutes? The only thing that works for me seems to be high intensity cardio--which is debated as awful for bb'ers.

I love the arguments my husband and I will get into because we both read conflicting research consistently.

There have always been things I've wanted to change about my training before I took on a diet coach...I'm almost there. Not to mention I spend all of my money trying to keep us fed--how I might be able to pay someone is another story LOL

Started off my day w/45 min cardio (screw this low intensity crap ..if Im not sweating...I might as well not get up)--I did half on the elliptical and the other on the stepper.

Went in and did legs in between pick-ups and drop-offs--I'm proud of myself for staying true to my intentions for today. Time to start cutting off some of the carbohydrates that have taken up permanent residence on hams and glutes :yep:

Seated Extensions (just to warmup)
3x20 (30/40/50)

Reverse lunges from platform (w/30lb bb)
4x15
ss/
Box Jumps
4x10
(it's been 5 months since I've done any kind of plyometrics work and I was dripping by the end of my first sets) LOL

Split Squats on Smith (w/bar in btwn legs)
2x15x95
2x15x115

Lying Ham Curls ss/Reverse hyper extensions--tried a 15lb db but I lack grace and couldn't hold it btwn my feet for more than 10 (next time)
15x45
12x60
10x75

Standing sl ham curls ss/cable donkey kickbacks
3x25x15/12/10 ss/15x10lbs

Calves-
Standing 3x30x120 ss/15xbodyweight

Seated 3x15x110

I felt great when I left--soaked--but great.

I'm contemplating exactly what the hell I'm doing as far as competitions this year. What the hell am I going to plan to go all the way to Chicago for if I have no idea what it will bring? I don't feel committed to it at all--which is unlike me. Prejudging is Fri @4pm which means we would have to start out Thursday night (my husband hates flying)...aside from the expense and the hassle of finding a sitter for my kids from Thursday to Sunday ( my son is a terror right now)--I'm not sure if Im ready to bring my best package anywhere out of state just yet--for a trophy, no less.

Im toying around with all of the local venues...Atlantic States is 10wks...I've been known to pull it together faster than that...I don't know. We will see.

OK-thinking it's time to change the title of my journal. Decided to stay true to my roots and stick with bodybuilding. I don't know what the new division will bring--but as of now, totally not willing to sacrifice my sanity for the sake of cutting down some muscle and/or my weights.

Some people drink...some abuse drugs...others go shopping and spend money they don't have. I lift weights. On days when things are shitty--I mean REALLY shitty...I lift heavier and it takes it all away. I compete and diet and blah blah blah because it holds me accountable and gives me a bigger goal than myself. Having never had a training coach (aside from my partner--my husband--can't belittle his encouragement) I've had a lack of any push or critique from any outsider other than the judging panel...and so far...that's been all I've needed for sanity purposes. I do this because I love it...because it completes me and makes me who I need to be as an educator, a mother, a wife...a friend..a coach. Why compromise it for the sake of the unknown?

Those meanderings aside...today is a chest and biceps day and I woke up with my bicep freakin killing me WTF is that? The scale has not budged ..though I look leaner and my pants fit without sucking in for dear life--so I'm getting somewhere :) If I'm planning to get on stage in 9 1/2 weeks--and want to make it down to 125--something has to give. Patience is by far not one of my strong points.

Im tweaking little by little without starving. My body always responds well to my workouts when I keep some carbs in but they are fairly low right now--somewhere around 50g. I have been supplementing a bit with some fats--and I'm not quite sure how I'm dealing with that yet because , having put on some body fat this off season, I can't really notice those subtle differences yet.

Right now here's what I'm eating (give or take a few almonds lol)...

4am Cardio

5:15- 30g Whey
7:30- 6 whites & 1/3 c oats
10:30- 3 oz Top Round London Broil (Or 4 oz Chicken Breast ) and a
small portion of some kind of vegetable
(asparagus/greenbeans/broccoli)
1:30- 30g Whey & 1/4 c almonds (or 1 tbsp pb)
4:00- 4 oz tilapia & 5 oz yam (pre workout or I starve during
training--straight protein dsnt do it for me)
TRAINING TIME
6:30- 30g Whey & 1 tbsp pb
8:30- 6 eggwhites & spinach or 4 oz tilapia & spinach

My problem is that I am up from 4 am until around 10-11 and there are too many waking hours for me to cut out a meal right now...I am totally starving ALL FRIGGIN DAY. Im somewhere in the fam of 1700 cal-- When I cut down my oats to 1/4, and my yam to 3 oz--I may add a bit more protein and fat. I was going to do the keto diet, but was a bit concerned about how my body would rebound for the summer... not sure I want to give on no carbs all summer, running after a 6year old and a 2 year old.

Sunnyday
03-31-2011, 05:55 AM
I was concerned about the same thing regarding keto - and running after my 2, 4, and 10-year olds for the summer - and I decided keto just isn't for me. It's not bad now that I have the general bbing lifestyle down and I just feed everyone the same things as I'm eating (just different proportions and mine without the extras). I'd have a much harder time doing keto if I had to make completely different meals for the rest of the family.

What a YUCKY day! Woke up to rain and grossness--but still got up and did cardio. 9 weeks is close. I need to spend less time looking at what others look like at 9 weeks out and have patience.

Last year I started off my season super lean b/c I had been eating clean for so long. This off-season's carbs are showing!

Trained chest & biceps last night--bicep still hurts but at least it seems localized at this point...the problem is that I always end up overcompensating somewhere along the line and hurt my forearm or shoulder...will try to take it "easy" whatever that is!?!

Chest
Flat Bench
warmup 65x20/105x15/135x12/145x10/155x8
Incline db ss/flyes
40x12 ss/25x12
50x10 ss/25x10
55x8 ss/25x10
60x"6" ss/25x10 ouch last set hurt and needed help to bang out the last 2 reg reps
Pec Deck
100x12/115x10/130x8

Biceps
Straight Bar45x15/55x12/55x10/60x8 (bicep hurt a bit here)
DB Curls20x15 (half single arm/half two-arm)/25x12/30x10 (drop)-25x8 (drop) 20x8 (drop) 15x10
Seated Preacher Machine (20 half reps followed by 10 full on each set)
65/85/90

Felt good-but starving and tired. Can't wait for the weekend. Back tonight-after my student council talent show auditions. From what I understand, last year's auditions brought in several 14 year old lap dance performances. Will be interesting LOL

HS Wide Grip Pullsx4
BO Rows on Smith (which, for some reason, I thought would be lighter??)x4
Seated HS Iso Lat Pulls-inner ss/upper gripx3
Wide Grip Cable Pull Downsx4
Low Single Arm Cable Rowsx3

Went heavy as hell and paid for it this morning when my bones hurt and I hit snooze instead of getting up for cardio..wtf ever. Guesses I will be dragging my lazy ass there tomorrow morning instead.

Going in for legs and shoulders this afternoon. Somehow triceps always get skipped. I will try for throwing them in with cardio in the AM tomorrow.

Although I made it to the gym Saturday morning, I still failed to get in a tricep workout. I have to get on the ball! Had a long weekend and stayed up too late last night...when my alarm went off this morning at 4am for cardio I slept right through it....feel like such a slacker!

It's an awful thing when you mentally schedule out your week around jobs, the children's babysitting arrangements, activities, added work assignments, husband's plans..etc...and something like this happens to me!--while it's not the end of the world, I plan my weeks out so carefully--as to account for every hour and every workout--and then have to recalculate. It's the only thing I have control over in this ADHD world of mine--so I try to keep it on point.

That being said..WAHHH maybe somebody could call me a wambulance and I can get over myself. Busy week either way.

Finished off the week last week with Shoulders (and trained legs Friday)--although had too much goin on to get journaling in. My joints ache really bad and I somehow hurt my shoulder. But also woke up with my period --and I seem to be able to equate my joint/bone aches with my hormone cycles. ..I always wonder if other women who lift on the heavy side experience the same thing.

Going to fit in quick legs this afternoon between drop offs--hate Mondays! Maybe I will make it a really quick one and fit in 30mins cardio. Putting it down here commits me so I can get my head out of my ass.

Hope everybody has an awesome training week.

Been too busy to journal lately but totally making progress--going to attempt to put some pix up this weekend.

Current weight: 133 (down around 4 lbs from starting weight)

I really just started to drop--added more carbs in this week (I had dropped too low) I brought it up from around 45g to 70g and it seems to work better for me.

Though the scale doesn't seem to be agreeable--my body sure is. I've been losing bf and water from all the right places--so I guess that's all I can ask from my efforts thus far.

This Saturday I am exactly 8 weeks out from the Atlantic states--which is where I've decided to put my efforts so far this year. Not sure if I want to do anything in the summer. I was going to go to Team U as a physique competitor but I nixed that and do not want to go in if I don't have a shot at the overall and I definitely don't have the size/muscle density that other competitors have who are competing this year. There's only one first place and this is a personal goal, moreso than any other.

Did chest yesterday and tris yesterday.

Flat Bench (15x95/10x135/8x145/10x135)
Smith Incline (12x115/10x135/10x135)
HS Decline (15x140/12x180/10x230)
Seated Cable Flyes (12x40/10x50/6x60 drop 6x40 drop 6x25)

Cable Pressdowns (vbar) ss/ bw dips (15x50/12x60/10x65/8x70)
Single arm cable kickbacks (12x15/10x17.5/8x20)
Rope pressdown (2 sets upright--2 sets overhead) (2x22.5)

Did some abs too
hanging side knee raises for obliques (3x10)
Cable Rope Crunches (3x15x55lbs)
Jackhammers w/ cable (3x10)

Second day on the diet change and I feel hungrier and tighter--I guess I needed a switch. Did anyone else have a difficult time letting someone else "in," and trusting their judgments? As hard as it is to admit it--sometimes we come to the end of our own ropes. I research and experiment and train like an animal. Now it's time to take it to the next level I'm guessing. I got a message from someone who was at the MET last night in NY to let me know that fbb is virtually over after this year. I know he's a supplement rep and he spent his time with the judges last night and blah blah blah but somehow I just find it hard to believe. Bodybuilding has expanded as a sport for decades and now, when women have equally pushed the limits and came into their max potential--it will become obsolete? Hard to swallow...

I'm starting the week with a plan for 4 days AM fasted cardio. I think that between my cardio and limited cals I started to burn muscle already. Turning into a peanut happens faster and faster ;(. Going to train legs and a bit of shoulders tomorrow--went in for bis and cardio on Saturday. Decent workout--bis still hurting.

Making progress though my bedroom lighting is awful. Next set of pics I will do better lighting.

8wks out (or 9 if I decide on Garden State instead of Atlantic States)...not settled yet. Too wishy washy this year. Not like me. Has a lot to do with the changing of the divisions I think).

Yep, yours truly! :D

I initially had planned to do my own prep. I don't like that I'm not in control over what I eat anymore (and when/how I do my cardio), as if I had to admit defeat. However, in just one week I see HUGE changes due to my coach's tweaks to my diet, that I admit I wouldn't have thought to do. Now that I research what he's done to my diet (I have a background in metabolism at the molecular level), it makes total sense, and I'm glad I decided to go this route. I also like that I don't have to wonder whether I'm doing the right thing regarding my diet 'cause I can already see it in the mirror.

Ok so my bones and joints really hurt today. What the H is that all about? I think I will take two EFA caps tonight instead of one and see where that gets me in the AM.

Went in at 4AM for cardio--did 45mins incline treadmill and sweat within the first 10. My body is weird--the leaner I get, the more I sweat. Usually...you would think it was the other way around. Last prep season I held onto the treadmill and did incline 15 at around 3.8. I am now up to around 8 incline at a comfortable 3.2 pace...no hands. What was I thinking holding on all that time? What a waste of cardio when I couldve been putting in some real work.

Did back & calves tonight --did not feel strong. The diet changes and the leaning out is robbing me of strength. Time for an afternoon thermo on these kind of days)

HS Reverse Grip Pulldowns-half two-arm/half one-arm
15x90/12x140/10x140/8x160

HS Wide Grip IsoLat
12x140/10x180/8x230

Bent Over bb Rows (reg grip and then 2 sets reverse grip)
15x135/12x185/8x225 & 12x185 (rev) + 10x185

Close Grip Cables ss/Cable ropes (wide-grip pulls to forehead)

12x100/10x120/8x140 drop 6x100 drop 8x70 ss/35-50x10s

For calves we did standing raises w/ and extra pulse at the top
3x15x150
ss/ bodyweight raises 3x15
Seated 3x10x100

Felt good --back hurts now.but everything does.

Liking the diet changes but I get all kinds of weird crap from food--as do we all, Im sure, to some extent. I switched my nuts from just almonds to almonds & walnuts and the fat content in the walnuts is making my skin very oily and Im starting to break out a bit. Has to be that--its the only change that brought in something I might be sensitive to. Weirdo :)

Planning on hitting cardio tomorrow AM and then tanning for the first time this year. Id rather go get a spray tan but I dont know where to find the time.

Not sure on this--if youve had the chance to read the mandatories--doesnt seem like all that much. The front double bi has a twist added instead of an extended leg...no lat spread....chest & tricep pose has arms extended infront of body w/ leg also. Those are the major poses, from what I understand--and I guess when push comes to shove--they will have to see girls in a lineup to see what looks the best and how the regs might be tweaked.

Wished you lived closer to me, girl. I would TOTALLY take your kids for 4 days for you to go to Jr. Nats! My 2 y.o. daugher & 4 y.o. son would wear your kids out in no time flat. Then when my toddlers have had enough, my 10 y.o. gymnast daughter would wear them out all over again, LOL!

I am going through the same sitter headaches through this prep, so I hear ya. The going rate here is $10/hr for 3 kids. Can't tell you how many times this prep has turned my family's schedule inside out, like when one of my coaches has to reschedule. :hypno: And that is on top of all the other appointments we go through. That's why you girls have the kind of muscle that I envy when you're dieted down!! Most young girls dont grasp the concept that it takes time. The best fbb'ers are the ones that are in their 40s, in my opinion, because the muscle maturity is unmatchable by far....it's not until late 30s, early 40s, that most people truly learn their bodies...what works...what builds...how to overcome plateaus...

Went in for chest & bis tonight. This week we switched up the schedule-THANK YOU DEAR JESUS--that my habitual husband has glued us into (Im making progress with him YAY). Creature of freakin habit if I ever met one...

We usually do chest first (on whatever day we start)-but most men, I've found do this. Ever notice there's not a flatbench to be had in the gym on a Monday night?? Anyways--then we do back--legs--shoulders-etc. But last week I started with back and felt great the rest of the week. This week I talked him into the same and felt awful (but I didnt admit it to him). My elbows are freakin killing me???!!!

Next week I'm ready for a db workout ---we've been stuck on bench and my body needs change.

My weights for the most part are what they always are. I feel solid strength still, though my muscle fatigue easier than usual from diet.
Flat Bench
Incline bb
Decline HS
Cable Flyes
Seated db curls (half single arm/half dbl)
Seated lifefitness preachers (20 half reps ss/10 fulls)--went extra heavy and elbows cried
Single Arm Cable Curls
Finished with light ropes--2 burnout sets

A friend who's doing her first figure show trained with us--she looks fabulous! Her upper body is borderline bb/ but she has very slim legs and ass-she's constantly being told that her upper body is too big (by the peanut gallery of course) but I think she looks f'n amazing...too striated (seemingly genetic tendency--like me in upper body) in her shoulders...for NPC figure right now--but shes doing USBF and she'll blow the other chicks off the stage by far.

Taking a serious look at my diet plans for the next few weeks. Although I started to work with someone--I'm knowledgeable enough to do it on my own. My only problem is that most 'coaches' dont like the idea of you bouncing ideas off of them unless they can claim you as their protege (at least in my experiences). I'm not sure I'm ready to relinquish that ownership when I've done it myself this long and I'm still changing. Maybe if I felt like I hit a brick wall--but I've never felt that way. I'm just curious--and I've found many answers and ideas amongst many of your comments and reflections on this forum. My excitement with happening across this hidden world is inexplicable--

Im thinking of experimenting- with the carb/keto cycling that he originally suggested. The diet is nothing I dont already know about--it's just something I've been reluctant to try. And, based on the fact that I seem to be leaning out fast enough--I don't see the harm in playing around. My muscles respond well to keeping carbs in-and the fat days seem to leave me tighter. I think I will move to 2 days fats/1 day carbs next week and then move to the 3 days/2 days cycle the following week. If shit goes bad I can always go keto all the way.

I think I kept myself lean enough this off season that Im not starting with a mess..

OK-Im lying..didnt take a full 6 years off from gym..took 6 years off from consistent training. Trained 1-2 days a week..sometimes 3, sometimes none. For 3-4 month periods we dropped out and then I took off a full 13 months when I was pregnant from 03-04...was too sick to train. But after learning how to eat on this diet, 15 years ago..I've always tried to stick fairly closely to it to some extent; was always certain to eat protein before carbs..had too much knowledge of what certain carbs did to my body...and I don't prefer sweets all that much so I've always stayed on the leaner side. I'm also very lucky to have been genetically blessed to have a predisposition to develop quality, shapely muscle. I know that some people train for years and will never attain the kind of size or shape that I can naturally with weights and protein. At 58, suffering through chemo and a host of other countless ailments..including psychosis :)-my mother still had shapely arms and a tight stomach (even after twins at 46). Heil DNA!

I never want to be so big that it compromises my femininity. I think muscle is super sexy and I'd prefer it over soft ass and big boobs any day..however..theres a fine line I would never cross regarding bodybuilding. When all is said and done..this is a hobby that wont last forever. I need to be able to rebound from it.

Been journal slacking for a few days but IM baaaccckkk

Attended my first show of the season yesterday and I've got the bug all over again..bad bad bad

It was very sad to see, though, although not recent news...fbb is really depleted of competitors. There were two girls there, in two different classes, and that was it. Usually I can say that more than several of the figure girls should have been in bb..but I can't really even say that this time around. ALthough muscular up top, most of the figure chicks didnt have any wheels and wouldn't do any better switching classes.

That being said--Im disappointed to think that a local venue would not bring out more competition than last year, but who am I kidding? Fbb doesnt bring in the crowd, the media coverage, or the clientele--. I am still really up in the air about what date Im doing. Both are 7 or 8 weeks away and I think I will be ready for either one. I think Atlantic States might bring some competition, but this was not the case for the Met this year so I dont know. Either way---whatever!

I switched up my diet starting yesterday. I made the move from EOD protein-fat/protein carb to 3days/2 days.Surprisingly, I feel amazing on low carbs--not even hungry past early afternoon (5-11 is generally my starvation period either way). My protein-fat days leave me with 1/4 c. oats in the 1st meal, broccoli & asparagus to satisfy the carb count...and somewhere around 2000 cals on my fat days and closer to 1600 on my carb days. I don't think I ever paid so close attention to how many calories were in fat...I've never used it as a dieting tool. It's taking me a bit of time to learn it on my own. I think my initial phase into this style of dieting was a bit too high for me..but we will see.

On my fat days my ratios fall somewhere around..75F/25C/200P

And on my carb days it's more like.. 100C/200P--give or take a few grams here or there.

I look fwd to see what the 3days-2days cycle brings!

This week I am off for spring break and I am totally going to chill and rip up this house! Starting tomorrow off with cardio and will prob hit the gym in the afternoon for legs.

Aww, lol... hey, you know what though? He's working hard and doing it... that's more than alot of other 52-year olds can say. I love my daddy to pieces, but he's 55 and I don't think he'll be in a bodybuilding competition anyyytime soon! ;) He's one hell of a griller though... my dad + a barbecue = some good ass food! Once the weather heats up and I'm no longer strictly dieting, I look forward to spending time at his house, having lots of burgers! :p

Oh yay - May 14th! That's the show I'm doing as a warm-up before going to SC on the 19th, so I'll def see you! I've been to that school once before for a natural show I worked for Dymatize two years ago. My friend drove down with me and we got a little lost, haha. Hoping that doesn't happen again... I think we just went the wrong way off the main road onto Lanes Mill - silly GPS!

Anyway, sucks to hear about FBB on Saturday. I'm waiting for the pix to get posted so I can check everything out. The Mets/Atlantic States/Eastern USAs usually have decent FBB turn out. And by "decent", I mean 1-3 girls per class, so anywhere from 5-9 girls? With Jr Nats 2 weeks later, there may be some competition at the AS this year... the Easterns is usually the Saturday before Nationals and brings out a few. It's disappointing to see the numbers falling though. I'm an FBB fan, so I'm saddened for you guys if/when the division goes away... :( All those years of hard work.

In happier news, glad to hear things are going well with the diet!! :)

Finally starting to feel my way through this carb cycling thing. The EOD plan really didn't do much for me but the 3/2 cycle works for sure. Yesterday was my third day on basic keto and I was dragging some serious ass last night. I was definitely border-ketosis and prob couldve used carbs last night. My 6-year old daughter woke me up on her bed to tell me it was waaay past her bedtime at 9:30 LOL. And..it took all I had to roll myself into my own bed. This morning I took in 1/2 cup oats and then 1/4 with my second meal...and I havent been able to stay out of the bathroom ---excreting my carbs faster than theyre coming in. By last night my muscles were fairly flat and I feel pretty light--though I haven't gotten on the scale in about a week. I was trying to kick that habit :yep:! My only problem with carb days is that it takes every piece of me to get through 3 hours between meals.

I'm interested in seeing how I look by tonight-or-tomorrow morning with the carbs in me.

Did a great leg workout on my own yesterday & some abs.

Extensions to warm-up 15/12/10/10
Seated Ham Curls 15/12/10/10
Reverse Hacks-double reps-pause halfway up and then full 10x90x4
ss/split squats bb inbtwn legs 15x95x4
Smith Squats-half wide-half close 20x135x2/20x185x2
Single Leg Press on Vertical-3x15 no weight ss/box jumps
Hyperextensions

Left with hams tight -goal accomplished -but hip & sciatica hurting this morning from those presses--I just cant seem to work them back into my workouts, even without weight.

50mins fasted cardio this AM-going to do chest & tris later.

My body HURTS waaaaaa. Muscles I didn't even know I used are exhausted. My lower biceps are sore and my forearm muscles ache ....and this is after doing legs LOL. I must admit Ive been out of the mix of doing any hardcore stuff at home since school started in September so the sore bod might be from raking the dead grass up on Sunday and spackling and sanding the laundry room for two days.

E'rbody wanna nice yard but nobody wanna do this raking. I did it :yep: It was tough too. I know I know. ..no one really cares and the stuffs gotta get done either way. I feel bad for me..that counts :flowers:

Did chest and tris tonight. Great workout..the usual stuff..get a much better workout when I do tris with chest than I do with shoulders (esp considering we seem to drop off toward the end of the week). Im sure I'll feel it tomorrow. I miss feeling my workouts so HEY thats what its all about! My hams feel good too--did my hyperextensions super slowly last night and hit em really good.

Felt really hungry today..and really vascular and tight during my workout. Now only if the carb cycling works on taking the fat off my butt I'll be in super shape.

As of now I'm on 5 days fasted cardio --thinking of making the move to a few PM cardios next week. If I drop down to 4 days AM and pick up 2-3 days PM I'm at least getting another 45-90 minutes of cardio per week and easing into 3 times a day at the gym. If mother nature would get her act in gear along the Jersey shore I can just take it outside in the eves and make life easy.

JI started with Lipo6x because it has always worked well for some pep for me...but switched over after 2 weeks to Mitotropin in the morning--mostly because I had a ton of it left over and it helps me go to the bathroom-why, I don't know LOL. It's also a low grade stim, in my opinion. I only usually take the 2 in the AM. As prep continues, and calories drop..I really like the old ECA stack in the PM..

I also take NO preworkout. Last season I used an intraworkout creatine drink that I liked but I wanted to see how much difference it made this contest season without it.

I'm hearing lots and lots of good things about Lipo6x. Don't know whether I'll try it myself, though. I'm extremely stim-sensistive and I've only used the non-stim fat burners until this prep. L-carnitine for me acts like a major stim. We'll see how I feel once the calories drop. I'll bet I'll be begging for something to jump start me, LOL.

I'm thinking I'd like to start experimenting with pre- and intraworkout stuff after this contest season, among other supps I'm reading about. Feeling like a kid in a candy shop lately.

Hope you feel better, girl... I've tried doing chest on it's own, chest/back, chest/tris and chest/shoulders. So far, chest/shoulders is my favorite of all those combos. I can't mentally separate bis and tris so doing different parts of the arm on different days screws with me, so I usually keep those two together. I know - doesn't make much sense, but that's how I roll lol.

And I'm with you on the ass fat attack... I yell at my ass alot, and threaten it if it doesn't do what I want haha (<--- sad, but true!)

This was funny. Next time bring chopsticks (to eat with) for the real broccoli-chicken-in-movie-theater effect!!!!!! Pretend like you brought some awesome take-out!!!!! (a little spice like curry and mild pepper or basil etc. helps with this act....)

You are tooo kind :))) Thanks! I am SOOOO distraught. I should get my ass a babysitter and uproot my life and go to Chicago or stick with it for Team U but Im not ready to get up for WPD and be the hardest, leanest chick and lose bc of what I bring. I'd rather low-ball it this year and use any comps I do as bikini prep and fun. If WPD is my spot then it will be there for years to come. ... I must keep telling myself that :hypno:

EASTER SCHMEESTER :)) I must say that my only real craving was the homemade chocolate from Van Holtens--a local chocolatier. The grandparents brought over homemade baseball, mitt, football and giant egg for the kids and I smelled it when they walked in the door YIKES. Whatever. I could scrap the diet in a heartbeat. But what a waste of 4AM cardios when I could be sleeping. And what a bitch putting up with those dizzy spells last night when I was borderline ketosis before my carb day...why waste those moments?? LOLOL...for the veins in my abs ...back...and chest that are starting to pop..THAT is why Cara!

The onset of age carries with it muscle maturity that is incomparable to anything I felt or experienced in my 20's. Time, effort & consistency ..it's all right there.

Did some posing with a friend of ours on Friday and was quite pleased with the way my legs are coming up. I think that the preexhaustion ss leg extensions have made a huge difference in my sweep and in the cuts I've developed over this past year. I recommend them to anyone who is looking for some growth in the outer sweep--as it seems like they hit there the hardest.

Happy with my progress and with the carb cycling. Worried though, about taking in too much fat on my fat days but my body feels like it needs it so Im listening. I added a little avocado this weekend in lieu of olive oil and sticking with almonds over cashews and walnuts...those seem to bother my belly. I've taken it easy on the PB--I could see why I was advised to keep it off limits (it's very difficult to stick to a tablespoon LOL).

Planning on continuing to hit it hard this week. I like the move to the 3 day fats---2 day carbs cycle. I dropped a carb today but then threw in a rice cake instead just because I felt like it....I'm trying to avoid getting too OCD, as these kind of exchanges never bothered me before--but I don't want to look just like I looked last year either ???!!!

Everything seems like it's where it should be...

Bikini prep meaning beach. I'm way too muscular and have too itty bitty of boobs for bikini LOL..

Dont get me wrong--fat LOOOOVES my legs! (and my ass unfortunately)..but I'm lucky to have buildable quads. Genetics often separates bb from figure from bikini. And, in my case, separates some of us who can wear a mini skirt without being a spectacle...there are some downsides, if you see it that way. For me it depends on what day it is...

I'm the same way actually. I admit, last year I couldn't stay away from the pb! I had to have at least a little lick every night. This year, I'm focused to the core - that shit is just waiting to destroy my hard work, so it's not welcome in this house or around me. And if it was here, it wouldn't really matter because I wouldn't let it win... NOPE!!! lol

Haha, you are def wayyy too muscular for bikini, but you don't *have* to have boobs, unless you're like me and have a giant ass and need the boobs to balance out the proportions.

I'm the same way... my quads aren't nearly as nice as yours or anything like that, but I stopped training them for now. They build much more easily than hams do!

AHHH, I can't wait to hit the beach. I only went ONCE last year - blasphemy!! Sandy Hook is calling my name! Where do you usually go? I hit up Point Pleasant last year... I NEVER lay out at Seaside (for obvious reasons and that was BEFORE Jersey Shore became an international sensation!) Belmar is nice too - quiet though without a boardwalk nearby (then again, so is Sandy Hook).

I can't say I was happy to hear the 4AM alarm for cardio this morn ..especially since the asthma attack reared its UGLY head in my house last night in my poor daughter's chest. Several doses of various meds--coupled with treatment after nebulizer treatment and several wakeup calls from 12AM through 4 did not make for a cardio-ready session. WAAAA! I hope she is not a lifelong asthmatic :(. I sucked it up..gave her another dose of prednisone and got inthe car.

Not to mention it was very hot in my house last night --it seemed that the temp dipped and then skyrocketed. I woke up sweating and continued to sweat on the Precor....felt good though!

I put on pants today and needed a belt for the first time in several months :)) good news! And the biotin I've been taking for my hair (it had been really dry and splitting)-is making my nails grow fast & strong-- I recommend for anyone who has trouble with either of these two areas. I didnt waste my money on the combo product that's sold in drugstores--the simple bottle works and was only $5.99. Bargain!

Love starting work on Tuesday--only 3 days until the weekend and another bb show. I was reminded that there are only 36 more days of school until summer YAYYY

Trained chest and tris tonight--great workout--and was only interrupted right before I was going to finish off. Never a dull moment. My son peed right through his diaper in the daycare --something that has never happened before...I guess it's time for serious potty training. That wasnt worse than the nail polish he decided to decorate our sofas with today. what-the-f*ck-ever! Hes such a beast but hes cute as hell.

Im surprised at the fact that I have no loss in strength. I had no problem getting 165 on bench for 3 by myself for the first time and although it was heavy--I felt solid. This is really new for me. Usually precontest dieting impacts my strength at least somewhat. Either the concept of fats being muscle-sparing is a phenomenal change for my training--or its bullshit and just coincidental that I got a heavy one-time lift. We shall see.

My elbows, forearm bones and shoulders hurt something fierce--this always seems to happen when I increase my weights.

On a side note--I overheard a conversation between a new girl and a trainer this evening. He was giving her some ideas for the workout they'd cover in their next meeting and they were both watching me & Joey train. She then proceeded to tell him that she did NOT want to look like me as a result of coming to the gym --What the hell is wrong with people?? Why do people assume that a few db curls will give them biceps? Or squats will give them quads that their mama never gave them in the firsst place? I have no tolerance.

HA HA HA ! The rock truck story made me laugh. When I was a kid, I used a knife and carved "I LOVE YOU MOM" WITH A BIG HEART into my moms antique wood sewing machine!!!!!! OMMMMMMMAN I remember the heat I got from that. I was like 6 or 7? Anyways. . . since it was literally carved in there it was there FOR LIFE. And my Mom LOVED to sew, she made EVERYTHING for use growing up. We always had the most elaborate halloween costumes ever, AWESOME!

Anyways, a year before she passed I was at her house helping her clean the basement and I when I came across her sewing station, I laughed and I said 'Mom, I bet you're not so mad at me now that I did that, huh?' and We both giggled and she said 'No, now that means more to me than anything!'. Sigh. Grow up fast. Treasure every moment!

Felt TERRIBLE omw to the gym and I stopped at 2 places for raw nuts and couldnt find any. I broke down and bought a reg jar of peanut butter to combat the dizzy spells. Apparently my body is using my muscle for energy because on my fat cycle days Im not taking in enough fat??!! On my next cycle I will up my oats in the AM and up my fats on the 3rd day. That seems to be when Im having the most trouble.

Dieting is mind-boggling to me. BEing able to see others' diets and macros makes my own decisions confusing. As Ive said earlier in this thread, my body responded ridiculously well to the cycling and Ive leaned out significantly. My upper body is nearly show-ready and my lower is being stubborn as usual--but I notice that my fat needs seem to be much higher than other girls that compete heavier than I do. I guess everyone's body burns differently--I know this but still it helps if I dont look at anyone else's diet.

Whatever--
I trained to capacity but didnt overdo it. Tuesday's chest workout hurt my forearms. I believe I have forearm splints for the first time in over a year. I guess the effort paid off

Seated isolat HS pulldowns-4x15/12/10/10 --1/2 close--1/2 wide
Bentover BB Rows---went heavy on these and my back was swole all night :)) and :(((
Seated islolat Row (inner grip ss/outer grip)
Single arm high cable rows
Straight ARm Pressdowns
Straight bar curls
Seated lifefitness double arm curls
Seated cable curls-single arms

Long day today..started with running grade level department meetings...still teaching...and running talent (or lack of talent) show practice after school...then home..gym...and friend coming for diet help. Skipped cardio this AM because my son decided to take a 1-2:30AM interlude in my bed last night. 3:45 was just too damn early.

Awww Christy that gave me the chills--i will never forget the nailpolish either--its chartrusse-ness is forever spread across my tan couches lolol...thank god for the other side lol. Time goes too fast...

Yup.

Back in 2002 I was working at 24 hr fitness as a PT after I had gotten laid off and was prepping for my first show. I was TINY weighed 112 bought KIDS size 12-14 clothes and I had a client who had done gastric bypass still weighed well over 200 and she said "i don't want to get big like you" seriously! wtf lady you are already 4-5 times BIGGER than me!!!!

WOW. People are f'ing delusional sometimes.

Dieting is seriously hard. Best thing I've learned is 1) Hire a good coach, even if you have to try a few to find one that works best for you, they take out all the guess work, and you have to stay consistent to it and 2) Don't read other peoples diets and think they'll work for you. Everyone is different.

But you know all this already ;)

Legs last night--decent workout

Extensions --4 triple sets of 10 (increasing weight by 10 each set)
ASG Squats--4 setsx15, moderate weight didnt go heavier than 185
Reverse Hacks 3x15 1/2 lower--1/2 full ss/jump lunges
Seated Ham Curls 3x15 ss/bw hyperextensions
Glute Kick backs on cable
Abs-Weighted cable crunches 3x15 and hanging leg raises 3x15

Did 30 mins faster cardio this AM. Thinking next week its time for throwing in a few PM cardio sessions....GOing in for shoulders this afternoon....

Judging my first show tomorrow for USBF in Brick. Totally psyched! I wasnt sure what to wear so I took one of his too-tight-for-me tshirts and cut it all up. Got rid of the neck and sleeve hems and shredded the back. Totally gleaned my shredding skills from a youtube video of a 16 year old chick. Even I was slightly impressed. I will have to post a picture Saturday. I have quite a few friends competing and I'm amped to be involved.

I worked for Dymatize at one of their shows back in 09. My friend and I were chatting with the FBB winner afterwards - she was so badass and inspiring!!

I re-construct alot of my clothes (mostly by cutting up tshirts and re-sewing them into strapless tops because I like to show off my back in the summer, lol!) so I can't wait to see what you did with that top! Have fun at the show... :)

Hey, you know what I wanted to ask you? I'm trying to figure out what to do between prejudging and finals at the Jersey Shore. I was thinking maybe I'll bring my laptop and go hit up a dunkin' donuts or someplace with wifi for a bit so I don't have to drive home and then drive back to Brick. Do you know of any places near the high school that you could recommend?

By the way, I gotta give you my number... I'll shoot you a PM now!

Ive been a SLACKER past few days. Never got myself in a picture with my shirt but totally felt 15 in it.I just never want to be one of those women who turn around and scare you off because you had pegged me at 20 and my face doesnt match. I think at 33 Im safe but gimme another 10-15 years and IDK--hope I age well. :dunno:

The show was fun! --as they all are for me. I feel like I could probably drop everything else in my life and just engage in full time contest prep and attendance. Im in overly obsessive mode. Though Im sure there are many of you there with me right now--hey birds of a feather--

Diet is going well-I opted to move back to my normal, carbs-in diet mode, esp after the initial fat loss I was going for came on. I will follow this through my 4 week mark and make adjustments unless they are given to me before then--

Considering joining a local contest team and they have a team of dieting coach-posing coach-etc etc--IN return for repping them I receive a sponsorship-of-sorts so I will try it out--if they will try me out :)

On another note--I ran across pics of a girl that I know I will be competing against in June and I have anxiety over it. Who else here does that? Am I the only schmuck who does this to myself? I cant be. She definitely carries more mass than I do --and if she uses supps through the last few weeks her conditioning might win over mine. I have never used anything that wasnt OTC for prep purposes. I planned on getting a dieuretic but how far is that going to get me? I run at warp speed as it is and borderline heart attack on a normal day with my energy and anxiety levels-that the warnings of the clen feeling have always kept me away.

And now while Im definitely coming in leaner, quicker, this year over last --I can actually see my hamstrings at weeks out (something that couldnt be seen at all last year)--Im worried nonetheless.

I took some progress pix last night I wanted to jump on and post them but got sidetracked by facebook when I got on. Why do I feel the need to know everyones bullshit? Thought about deleting my fb but decided Im too danw nosy :yep:

The pic below is one from this weekend eventhough you cant see what Ive done to the back of the shirt-I will make Joey take a pic for me later tonight. Joey (husband) on left and my girl and her fiance on right. She did awesome in her first show-came in 3rd and 1st and 4th--

Jealous yes....but in all honesty Im probably equally so at times, concerning certain things. We all know that being part of this culture breeds sex for a lot of people and Joe and I have met some 'interesting' people to say the least. Not sure which one of us gets hit on more by women. I had some smokin hot chick this weekend tell me how much she loved my ass WOOOT WOOT. She got totally robbed btw for her pro figure card by a skinny chick with no muscle. She had a real cute southern accent too.

On the otherhand, the head judge, big, BUXOM girl (i never get to use that word) --she was falling over herself to introduce herself to Joe. I giggled...whatcan I say? I do my best to bring home trophies and Joe fits the bill LOL.

I also think that training together with someone is wildly intimate in many ways and my last 2 training relationships ended in longterm ones.

Girl, cut it out, you're GORGEOUS! I would NOT worry about people being like WTF, TRUST ME. I 'think' I added you on facebook btw? I wasn't sure if that was you or not, LOL, but if not add me ;) I'll add to your facebook noseyness! LOL

Congrats on your sponsorship! Thats awesome! This sport is so expensive so anything you can do to cut down cost is HUGE!!!!!!! I'm so excited for you!!!!

I feel you on having anxiety, but don't trouble yourself too much on what this other girl might or might not be doing. You can only go against yourself and judge yourself on how much you've improved, which you have! You never know, she might F up her prep, get sick, not come in right, have a bad tan, ha, maybe a little 'wardrobe malfunction???' ;) Anyways, the point is, if it helps you to be more motivated, go for it, but don't let it cause you any more stress or anxiety that you have now. Be strong and focus on yourself, because right now thats ALL that matters.

I don't know why but that pic is so small I can't see it

Yeh this industry is definitely all about the booty. I hear ya. Well if you can find a bomb girl coach, then you're allllll set! Ha, now just hope she isn't 'interesting' LOL

Your trophy comment about your husband made me double over laughing!!!! HA HA HA ! LOVE IT!

I totally and 100% feel you on the FB creeping and worrying about other girls you'll compete against. I used to do it ALL the time, and I would drive myself absolutely insane. But Christy's right, you never know what can happen to a person during the course of their prep. The only thing you have control over is how you look when you step on that stage, and if you want to get technical, you don't even have full control over that sometimes either. Judging by the pics you have posted so far, I think you'll be just fine. Also, I've kept meaning to post in here and let you know that I'll be working the Species booth all day at Atlantic States, so if you need help with anything at all backstage, hair, tan, makeup, whatever, I would be more than happy to help you out.

I know it's much easier said than done, but try to stay focused only on what you have to do in the coming weeks. And remember, you can't judge a book by its cover, and you can't judge a bodybuilder by one picture.

ChristyLaurenPoole
05-03-2011, 09:16 PM
That is so true Melissa. You can't judge someone by one picture, and sometimes pictures aren't really anything at either.....ever do online dating?!?! Pick a guy thats super 'hot' and then meet him in person and go OHHHHGAWWWWD! Yeh, well sometimes peoples pics aren't like they seem.

SO LETS GET BACK TO FOCUSING ON YOUR BADASS SELF! Shall we? ;)

I liked it better back in the day when I just showed up and sat backstage with my headphones on ..legs up..not giving a damn about anyone but myself. I need to get back to that place. I work hard...diet harder...and this is my hobby, not my life. I own it.

Melissa--thanks for the offer of assistance. I decided to stay in Jersey since it's cheaper and since I will probably make the move over to Physique next year--barring it's not comprised of a ton of slim, toned girls as rumors have it. Going to do the Garden State & Probably Muscle Beach....but if we go up to Tribeca on the 4th I will put in a visit to the Species booth for a hey-ya!

If you have the photo on your hard drive, try using Google Picasa to "export" it and "resize" it to less pixels. Picasa is free thank goodness. Go to Google and ask for Picasa.

I'm sorry I can't really explain it better - requires playing with the Picasa thing and the pics.

I never understood why Picasa calls putting the pic into a new file for re-sizing to less pixels "exporting." I'm not sending my pic to Peru....or China....or Guatemala...:p :p

I regularly load new batches of pics into Picasa, and "export" the ones I want to a smaller pixel size i.e. 480. (to 480-Land I guess LOL)

I think your photo host is only giving you the little bitty pics.

I'd like to think I'm one of the bikini girls like you mentioned. I have a few figure friends that I've trained with and we all train the same way (especially when I'm not this far into contest prep and I have more strength!) so it's nice to have support from weight lifting veterans who are understanding of those of us with bikini booties. :p

I'm in East Brunswick, right off Route 18. :)

And I use photobucket... just upload the pic and it will give you a few options for sharing. For Rx, use the one with the tags (it will have an html link in between the image brackets) and just post that code right into the forum text box and voila..!

For sure you are girl! Its hard to keep big booties like ours hard without training hardcore! And plus--come contest week you will have the luxury of softening up a tad if you want to esp bc youre coming in so lean. There are some bbs that dont diet as strictly and get as lean as you do!

Nooooo, don't wanna soften up! lol Tammy keeps setting me straight everytime I complain about that, but still. Haha, yeah the armpit/shaving thing is a classic... I have to check my underarms in the mirror to see if I missed spots. Last thing I wanna do is wear a strapless top, raise my arms above my head and find out I'm sporting some not-so-sexy body hair because my razor missed it.

I use Dove deodorant... they have these summery scents, but yeah I've been noticing my deodorant "activating" more during the day. Not sure if that's diet-related or just from the heat and humidity that's kicking in so early this year. Ughhhh, hate this humidity!

Just finished my cardio... kill it, mama! Garden State... coming right up!!!

Ont thing that has helped me with these things is I say to myself 1) I already know what it taste like and 2) This food option will STILL be here when I'm done dieting, its not like I'm going to be done dieting and the world is going to stop making ice cream. . . ;)

HA, yeh I remember that thread, it was like 'hard parts to shave' or something like that! LOL. Its funny, now that I'm leaner than I've ever been its like a catch 22. Because there is 'less' of me to shave, but more crevices LOL . You look excellent!!!! WOW, I'm so impressed with you! I love your back! and your rear double bi is just outstanding!

Holy sexiness... You look awesome, woman!!! Umm, if your training schedule permits in the off-season, we HAVE to train together one day! I'll totally come down to you one weekend... I know you have alot going on and have to worry about childcare, etc... but if the opportunity presents itself, we gotta make it happen. You look amazing!

And girl, I hear you on the italian food thing. I was in Staten Island at my cousin's baby shower on Sunday and everyone was eating bruschetta, eggplant rollatini, etc... and I sat there with my tilapia and collards, lol. It clearly paid off though because my cousin's other cousin on the other side of the family left me a facebook comment saying "keep up all that hard work - not very many people can be a disciplined as you - but you know that already as people eat cake around you while you munch on talapia!!" LOL... I mean, seriously! :p It will be worth it... I'm sure of that, and the same goes for you!

Thanx mama! I am up for training any time. Yes it is rough with the kids but I am trying to work some time out for myself this summer. And-I can always meet you halfway and we can try somewhere new (LOVE THAT).

You have me thinking about buying collard greens and I have never tried them. What do you do to them?

I think most people have gotten used to 'my food'-although Im pretty sneaky and I usually bring something that I can eat (i.e., I make the salad, fish, veggie--whatever).

And fuck yeah it's worth it! I will be the one chasing the psychotic 2 year old on the beach without jiggle ass LMAO

Trained back & bis yesterday alone but had a pretty good workout. Joey wasn't feeling well--I think my whole family has been plagued with allergies --aside from myself thank god.

Had a good workout; switched things up and moved quick

Wide grip cable pds
70x15/100x12/115x10/120x8/130x8

DB pullovers
50x15/55x12/60x10

Tbar Rows w/25 plats
50x15/75x12/100x10/125x8x2 (why did the 25s feel heavier to me than 45s??)

Reverse Grip BO Rows on Smith ss/Close Grip pds (mod weight)
135x12/185x10x2/135x10

(i just realized I stopped without finishing my back workout-whatever ....)

Biceps--
Straight Bar curls 30x12/40x10/50x8/60x8
HS Preachers 35x12/45x10/55x8
Seated db curls 15x15/20x12/25x10/30x8

I came home and passed out on the bed. I never do that--woke up to my son kicking my ass asking for juice (with a husband, lying wide awake right next to him WTF?) I hate napping in the afternoon-I wake up feeling awful!
Then, in the spirit of italian food--I cooked the family spaghetti & chicken--and enjoyed my tilapia & green beans. Such a good wife.

I even baked & iced cupcakes and drank coffee to celebrate them ..how gay:) :p

Looking fwd to hitting legs today..it will be the first time in 6 months that I did not already train them once this week. Wondering if I should go for strength sets or burnouts...maybe I will mix it up. Missing out on the soreness that comes from good workouts--mostly just experience fatigue. The rest day couldve been a good thing this week.

I love trying new places, so I'm definitely down... we'll have to figure it out!! :)

I buy them frozen at ShopRite (because they're 3/$5.00) and make two at a time. I throw them an aluminum pan sprinkled with paprika and cayenne pepper, then toss them in the oven for about 25 minutes to bake (aka dry them out). I find this makes them not-so-soggy and then they aren't all watery like spinach can often be... I hate when it makes my chicken/fish all mush.

All the other mom's must be so jealous! ;) Doing this stuff is challenging enough, so being a mom and wife (and one that cooks spaghetti and bakes sweets on top of it??)... thats just angelic right there. Do you have a special closet for your wings and halo? lol

Trained legs last night something ridiculous. As a matter of fact I went in there with the promise that I would walk out hurting and today it kinda hurts like everywhere. Every joint is paying the price for this week's workouts.

One thing Im noticing about keeping more fats in my diet is that I am largely maintaining my physical strength-but my bones and muscle recovery is not keeping pace. I am literally HURTING. I hit the bed last night and didnt even remember pulling up the covers. Not to mention I went back after training last night to do some cardio with a friend. gym time was 4am, 4pm and 9pm--a midday nap wouldve been ideal lol

I have every intention of staying awake to play WOW at least for a little while. Maybe I will try a ephedra-crack-mocha-latte in a little while.

Legs
Extensions -40x15/70x12/80x10/100x8x2

Ham Curls-70x12/80x10x2

Close, High Stance Vertical Leg Press -very slow on negative -90x20/180x15/270x12/360x10x2
80
REverse Hacks w pause-each rep had an additional half at the bottom
lightweight-sets of 15 (total of 15 whole and 15 half reps-lower half)

Reverse Lunges-70x10x3

Ham Thrusts- bwx10x4

Extensions-w/preexhaust ss 70x15/10-80x15/10-90x12/10

My ass is sore - first time in awhile. Ive had my feet in all of the wrong spots on the press for awhile.

Tonight we did delts-good workout w/ a friend of ours who is competing soon-have no doubt he will be apro in a few years. Great physique and sie and the youth to develop mature muscle.

Smith Presses
Arnolds 25x15/35x12/40x10/45x8

Lateral Raises (with pause and pump at top) 15x12/20x10x3

Front Raise/Cables ss/side lat raises 10x15/7.5x12/10x10x2 at this point my shoulders were fried already

Cable Crossovers-rear delts (thinks that what its called cant think right now-never gonna make it for WOW)

I totally get a good vibe off you... You would love my friend AnnMarie who does figure. I met her backstage at the MidAtlantic two years ago and now she's one of my best fitness friends. I had an ICECREAM SUNDAE last night. Cheated for the first time in I think 7 weeks. Maybe 6 I lose count. It was perfect. And I paid for it all day today --as I am completely lactose intolerant. Cant understand why I dont make better decisions LOL. I was so happy afterward and this morning. SUGAR--hell of a drug

Had a kick ass leg workout this afternoon with a friend of mine thats learning how to hit her legs for the first time so we went with glutes & hams in focus. Trying to downsize my own weights and up my reps a bit--

Single Leg Life Fitness Squats ss/Reg LF Squats
40x10 ss/100x20
50x15 ss/120x20 x 2
50x15 ss/140x20

Vertical Leg Press (Feet set high and close slow on negative) ss/boxjumps
90x20/180x15/270x12x2

Reverse Hack-Lower half reps in btwn each rep
90x20/135x15/180x15x2

Cable lunge/knee ups ss/Cable pull throughs (30lbs)
12.5x15/15x15/17.5x12

Leg Raises Upside Down on Hyperextension machine-with ball squeezed btwn knees
15x4

I left with my ass feeling tight which is what I was aiming for..did 40 mins cardio this morning and tonight...and aiming for 45 in the AM.

Time to kick it up a notch I have improvement to displayy

Hey girl. My husband is lactose intolerant so if he overdoes it I live vicariously in his grief. I found him Breyers Lactose Free Vanilla and it is great and doesn't cause him ANY distress. So now that's the only ice cream we keep in the house. My daughter and I have pretty sensitive palates and we can't taste any difference.

There's something so wonderfully decadent and happy about ice cream that makes pain worth it... but then again, I don't get sick like that. I used to when I was younger, but I seemed to have outgrown it (thankfully). I don't know if you saw the protein ice cream link my thread, but I am SO buying an ice cream maker so I can make my own yummy frozen desserts!! I don't need it to be real sugar and whole milk and all that jazz... I just love the cold, frozen texture! I could be perfectly happy with a sugar-free / lower calorie version of the real thing. I'm not greedy! :p

So funny about AnnMarie... you guys both have that NY-based/italian thing about you and being a fellow original NY italian, I picked up on it! ;) Muscle girls stick together anyway, so no big surprise there... yay, can't wait to hang with all my badass mama's on Saturday! :)

I never go to Stop n Shop, but I get my collards frozen. I buy the ShopRite brand and it works out great... SnS has to have them too! And yes, I'm a monster with the kale now... OMG, it's SO good!!!

Yeah - my whole family growing up was lactose-intolerant till we switched to raw dairy. Now, we can enjoy all the goodies that dairy has to offer...without the distressing gaseous fumes. LOL My hubby also likes coconut milk ice cream - he cannot tell the difference.

Hey C - I'm curious if you've found any good references for the WPD posing?

Not too much Sassy--Michele Brent posted a video of Fleur Dukine (not sure if I butchered that spelling) running through some of the written mandatories...but the comments that followed referenced "multiple ways to do the mandatories." So Im not sure.

What Im more concerned about is the RIDICULOUS variety in girls I have seen going out for the division at this point. It is what made me reconsider waiting it out until next year and sticking with fbb this year. Most of the girls I've seen are comparable to figure girls--a tad harder but not much--and if I were to stand next to any of them, my legs would look like two giant hambones from an old Tom & Jerry episode.

Interested to see what will come...there are way too many fbbs out their to make our div completely obsolete.

N0-I opted out due to the distance and my children. Not an ideal time to go away. The only saint that would take my 2 year old for 4 days will be moving her son up from Florida by car that weekend. Have no problem getting someone for my daughter-at 6 shes pretty self-sufficient--but he is a friggin BEAST!

Thanks-when I jumped back into bb a few years back I got pregnant right away--I had my son in Jan 2009 and I was a cow (for me--more soft flabby body meat that made me gag than size-wise). This past winter was my first official off-season since I stopped breastfeeding in May 09. I was pretty sucked out last season and my body needed the cals, carbs and weights to be able to put on some muscle. I am SO lucky to have been genetically gifted enough to put on and maintain lean muscle mass fairly quickly> my body is pretty responsive to almost everything.

I love jellybeans :)) I don't think I look all that big in person--Im kind of one of those people that swell when I pump up and pose.

I have been a total Journal slacker lately! Been having great workouts and have gotten super lean in the past 2 weeks (not lean enough yet) and stepped up the cardio big time.

Moved to full-time stepmill and threw in 3 PM cardio sessions to tighten up the boooottttyyy. My efforts are generally fruitless if I do heart-attack worthy cardio when I still have a ridiculous amount of bodyfat on the rest of me...it's the last spot to go.

My weight is sitting hard at the high 120's. Actually some mornings it's 130 but some 128. While Im not complaining too much I know I will come down at least another 5 lbs or so--I am exactly 7 lbs up from where I sat this time last contest season. I went in at 119 last show and will most likely be around the 125 mark for this one. The question is do I try to make it below that to go into lightweight or shoot for middle? This next 3 1/2 weeks will be interesting to see what kind of size I will lose when I start dropping more water.

Blasted legs today with a gf of mine who trains like a bull.

Leg extensions-triple drop sets x 4

Squats sumo ss/close stance-3x40 (combined) ss/leg press 3x40

Walking lunges w/25lb dbs 4x15

Seated Ham Curls 3x15

Ham Thrusts 3x20

Light Abs--3 sets crunches ss/3 sets roman twists

decent workout.

On another note-I have to throw a comment out there about girls documenting their contest season and progress on facebook. OK-I get it-you want to throw a picture or two up of how much progress you've made--you work hard--you look great..yada yada....but am I the only one who thinks it's kind of weird that chicks take pics in their lace thongs and bras and use them in their progress photos that are not privacy censored? I had to do a double take today ..I thought a friend of mine had started doing stuff for shemuscle--but she was just showing off progress pics-and she doesnt even compete WTF? My tolerance for people in general at this point in my diet is minimal so cut me some slack if I sound like an asshole.

Been practicing posing and pulling together my routine. I lack coordination and I usually only dance when I've had a few drinks (even though I love it--Im a great swayer LOL)

For the first time ever I feel confident with my posing and am running through everything correctly. I was always told that I have an amazing physique and then I get on stage and my posing is shit...I end up looking smaller and sloppy and crooked. The seminars helped and posing without a mirror has done a world of good as well. Im not particularly bigger than last year (unless you call 7 lbs monstrous)-but based on my posing I look completely different. SUCCESS!

7lbs could make a big difference, especially on a smaller frame so it sounds like you're putting on the muscle where it counts. You looked sick to me on Saturday, so I can only imagine what you'll bring next month! ;)

Melissa

On a small frame like yourself, 5-7 well placed pounds can make a very significant difference in your physique. Couple that with improved posing, and girl, you're gonna see a huge difference in how you look on stage....I gaurantee it!!! You are obviously genetically gifted physically between your shape, structure, and ability to build muscle. And knowing the little bit about you that I do and from reading your journal, you are clearly gifted from a psychological standpoint with your ability to juggle your family, a full time job (teaching, no less), and this sport in what appears to be a pretty freaking impressive manner. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say, WINNING, duh!!! I'm hoping to make it down to your show that weekend, would love to see you bring all this hard work to the stage. Keep on rockin' girl!!!

Yeh, I hear you. There is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo MUCH politics around here, that I kind of think my first show might be out in Michigan (near Shelby) just so I can give myself a fair shot. But the idea of traveling and alllll the bullshit with meals its like 'ugh'.....

I just saw that pic of you and Steph and I was like DAMN GIRLS!!!!! You two are rockstars!

I guess its always better to struggle to get into a weight class then easily fit into it. But also overall symmetry and conditioning plays a roll as well. I say exactly, see what your body does in the next couple of weeks, and then play it by ear. I'm impressed you've gained some serious muscle this past off season !

LOL, NOOOOOOOOOOO One blames you for being an asshole. I definitely have had like THE SHORTEST patients with retards the past few weeks. Its funny, I don't even fucking care about ANYTHING any more. Really. I used to stress and worry about shit, but now I'm so focused that like if something comes up, I'm like 'welp, whatever' and don't even look back. Pretty nice. BUT yeh anyways getting back to those people. All I can say is good for them, ya know. They are just starving for the attention, and let em get it, it won't be what they really want and sooner or later they'll regret the pics.........or maybe they are trying out for Porn!?

7lbs could make a big difference, especially on a smaller frame so it sounds like you're putting on the muscle where it counts. You looked sick to me on Saturday, so I can only imagine what you'll bring next month! ;)

I hope.. we will see. Though I totally wouldnt mind a lb in my boobs. Sorry--Im obsessed again LOL. Thanks Steph--ditto !

AWWWW thanks! it helps to whine/talk/bitch it out on here..at least I think. Dealing with men most of the time..that have no problem with hormones, etc. etc. it's nice to find some common ground with many of you girls (and men--I know you are here too LOLOL) if I keep doing what Im doing I think I will bring my best package--which is all I can ask for. I hope you do come!

PORRRRNNN! I'd rather see the food porn at this point in my life LOL I didnt only gain muscle I learned how to hold the muscle I have. I was doing my double bi all wrong--couldnt hit a lat spread properly and had trouble cutting my legs down. I trained like a fucking animal this year....I hope it pays off :))

I think age brought me some much-needed mental clarity and security to tell drop people that needed to be gone long ago. Joey's been telling me for years to 'park the truck' and get over all the dumb shit...I started to park ...I started...

You all remember that line from Point of No Return with Jodi Foster ...she says..." I never did mind the little things..." it reverberates in my head when Im tempted to blast impulsively LOL

HA HA HA I will try to give you some food porn in my journal since my cheat meal is tomorrow, but it seems to always be the same these days. LOL And of couse we'll have to warn Melissa........ hehehe

Posing takes forever to learn. I've been practicing ever since I started lifting seriously 3 years ago. But, things that felt right to me then, now that I've lost a lot of weight, look different, so I have to like 'reconfigure' how I stand etc. Not such a bad thing...

I think its part age and part not having the time to deal with bullshit anymore, that you begin to weed out what is important to you. You rarley have any alone time with yourself to just relax, so why would you want to spend that precious time brooding over some bs drama? I also think dating Shelby helped me out a lot bc he taught me how to focus on ME and what is important. Dating some one wiser than you teaches you to slow down. I mean, I'm still a little spontaneous and wild ((and probably will be for a long LONG time)) but I don't think I'll be dealing with negative soul suckers anymore.

Been SOOOOOOOOOOO freaking tired that had to take a quick hiatus from nightly journaling. Usually my mood and stamina go downhill ENTIRELY at the 4-week out mark. It's funny that this time around my diet has not changed much --esp. with the carb cycling--but the lack of varied nutrients brings bodily damage for sure...clear evidence is definitely in my eye twitches, not being able to go to the bathroom-even on 2-4 servings of metamucil a day--dizzy spells late in the day--mood swings something FIERCE.

WHATEVER! I choose this lifestyle...Ima stop my bitch session right here.

HUUUUGGEE difference on my low carb (green veggie) days at this point. By evening I look flat and entirely full of subcutaneous water. On my carb days I look tight, superlean and striated in my chest and shoulders--and vascular in my arms, back, chest and abdomen (each year brings more vascularity--which I love--but totally adds to the freaky non-appeal many "civilians" have to bb'ers.

Considering keeping the fats to a minimum at this point out and seeing where it brings me. trial and error my friends.

2 weeks and 4 days out. My hams are visible but my glutes still holding some water and bf. damn those mofos....Im on the stepmill morn and night....this attachment it has to my ass is entirely unnecessary LOL

Ive traded my normal workouts for lighter weights/higher reps--esp for legs. Last week was the 1st that my strength started to dwindle.

Trying to figure out what my game plan is after this comp--I dont want to be on precontest diet all summer but I dont want to look like awater buffalo. Do I drop my weights and lose this muscle Ive worked my ass off to get? Or do I just keep on being a gorilla?? HMMMMMM

With the first WPD contest now done, looking at the placings, where do you think you are in terms of placing. I mean do you compare yourself to any of the girls that competed? Did it turn out the way you thought? And finally, do you think looking back at prep, you should have focused on anything different then you did?

interesting questions--I decided not to do WP this year--to let it play out and see how the first few go. I think I have a comparable structure to Dana-other than the fact that my legs are bulkier....and holding myself in a different way makes a huge difference (which most of us know from experience)

I have one of those bodies that swells when I pump up and looks much bigger in pix and on stage than I do walking around--I could totally work with that--and am VERY thankful that I never took my passion for bb to the next level and made the crossover to hormones. Was always worried how Id come back from them.

For the next prep season and for the remainder of this year--I would most def focus on my legs--scaling them down for a slimmer overall look--which will take work bc they have a mind of their own.

LOL... hey, I'm a more than willing participant if we could get the fat sucked out of my ass (yes, there's still some packed away in there!) and injected in your boobs. Justttt sayin'... ;)

And OMG, you are so NOT a 'gorilla'!! (Sorry had to get that out of the way first and foremost!) After seeing WPD this weekend, I'd say that you would be a great fit for that category next year if you chose to switch divisions.

I'm not gonna do the Garden State now... I'm going to save my money for Jr Nats the following week, but I'll be there if you need anything (I know you have Joey, but still...) I can't WAIT to see you rockin' it!!

Cara, OMG you are NOT a gorilla by ANY MEANS!!!!! Girl, you know what I would give to look like you do?! Please do NOT sacrifice your muscle this off season, please. You've done what you've done naturally and that is something to be fucking proud of. Don't make me fly out to NJ and bitch slap you something fierce....LOL

You're twitching eye/no bathroom story makes me laugh so hard, because that is how I feel 24/7. This time its been not as bad....but somedays I'm like ok this can stop right now.

I think the worst is when you totally feel like shit and you don't even WANT to eat. Usually we think food will make us feel better, but you know you're making progress when you know that not even eating a bowl of ice cream will fix your depleted self, and you only crave sleep. Hang strong girl!

I honestly think you should give Womens Physique a go. I'd hit it up now before it gets distorted into something else entirely. I think you have the perfect shape for it!

I would definitely not attempt to scale back legs that have been built naturally just using food 'n' gravity!! If anything, add a few shoulder w/o's to bring the upper body to match. :)

WP it is for next year! Im totally not even entirely happy with my booty for this year...but next year at least local shows will offer the div (Im assuming)--I am very proud at what Ive built. Id like to personally thank the GENE God as well--for dealing me some good ones LOL
