Dudebros, dudesis's and all fellow members of TEAM BEAST MODE...I thank you all for your support through prep for my first 2 competitions this year!!! It's hard to imagine things going any better in my first 2 outings...only thing that could've made it better would be an overall and having each and every one of you here to celebrate the class wins w/ me!

For those of you new to my journal, I just competed in the NPC Midwest Novice on 3/19 in St. Louis, won my weight class (middles). Then 2 weeks later on 4/2, I competed in my home town show, the NPC Southern IN, where I won the novice middles and open welters. I took a close 2nd in the overalls to Charles Hamilton at the 2nd show. At the Midwest, I was beaten by a soft super heavy, but no complaints here. I spoke to the judges after the 2nd show and they told me to keep doing what I'm doing because they couldn't believe my conditioning or my legs for a noob to competing. I just need to add some thickness to my upper body. I competed at 173 for the first show and 162 for the second. My goal for the off-season is to put on about 4-5 lbs of quality stage weight. I'm taking this week off, eating whatever I want, and will officially start off-season training on April 10. Prep for the KY Muscle (Nov. 5, 2011) will begin early August. Until then, I plan on redefining brutality in my attempt to come in super freaky and dominate the middleweights at this show.

I'm actually going to start up fasted cardio tomorrow morning and get this water gain under control. 30 mins fasted eod. May even go in the gym tomorrow too for some light stuff. It's been 8 days since I touched a weight or did any cardio. I'm already chomping at the bit!!!

It's amazing on jasmine rice...that's what got me through a lot of prep. It's even good on potatoes...

I was up 15 lbs on Monday morning, 25 on Tuesday afternoon...haven't weighed today, but in the time since I weighed in yesterday, I've eaten a large pizza, drank a pitcher of beer and a bottle of wine, ate probably 3 dozen cookies, 2 breakfasts this morning, then had Penn Station for lunch and some candy. I'm thinking 192 easy...

Cinnamon on rice is AWESOME! Sometimes I split up the rice and have half of it plain with meat and veggies and then eat the other half of it as dessert with a tiny sprinkle of Splenda and lots of cinnamon.

Always the best choice! I had spicy bacon cheeseburger and taco pizza last night. The lady and I couldn't decide, so I picked one and she picked the other. And I washed it down w/ a tall, cold pitcher of beer. Beer...yes...I missed it dearly!

There's a pizza place right up the road from my house that does something similar. I tried it once and at 11 lbs of pizza, the other 2 guys in the challenge didn't even eat that combined, so we didn't win. Motherfuckers.

Let me get back to a structured eating plan first...by Sunday I'll be back to normal. Getting a little tired of the bloat so I'm heading back to the gym today. Already got in 30 mins fasted cardio too.

So I got back to training this morning...just some light stuff to get the muscles working again. But the weights I used felt very light, so I'm thinking this rebound is going to be outstanding! Here's what I did:

30 mins fasted cardio (will be eod going forward)

Chest & Calves

Incline Smith 135x12/155x10/175x8
Incline Flyes 35x12/45x12/55x10
HS Decline 180x12/230x10/270x8
Pec Deck 130x15/160x12/180x10
Machine Calves (straight) 150x20/180x15/220x15
Seated Calves (straight) 135x20/160x18/180x15

Off season is under way! Time to get nasty!

Thanks man. The biggest difference came when I learned to view food as helpful instead of the enemy. Years of wrestling made me slightly "manorexic" so I would never eat enough. I still have my issues, but those are fading away as I get more and more into bodybuilding.

Depletion hell is one thing, but doing it while not eating? Nope...I'd never do that. Food is the foundation.

If only I had known that then, or been taught that. I work with some high school athletes now, and I've showed them the proper way of dropping weight. Proper diet, adequate fluid intake, etc...Definitely not the way I did it, which was exactly what you said. Days of little food and water, practicing in an 85 degree room with plastics and sweats on....god, that part of it really sucked in retrospect, lol

No training today...woke up at 5:15, took some Humapro, laid back down for a few and got a terrible stomach pain. I decided not to chance having a blowout in the gym, so I went back to bed for about 2 hours. That was actually the most sleep I've got this week...about 10 hours. May have to do that again tonight!

I made my grocery list and I'm gonna go pick everything up tonight. Tomorrow I'll introduce a few clean meals, then Sunday will be 100% clean until Wednesday evening's cheat.

That's always the hardest part....getting to indulge for a little while after a show, and then going back to eating clean again....

In a way though, it's usually kind of nice going back to eating clean foods

I've been such a glutton this week that it won't be a problem to go back to clean foods. It's different in the off season too because I can eat lots of carbs...oats, rice, potatoes, pasta. :yep:

OK I woke up 10 lbs lighter this morning...189.6. My body is a fucking machine! So instead of having a shitty breakfast, this is what I had today:

3 omega-3 whole eggs
3 egg whites
3/4c oats
1 scoop whey
1 apple

Told you guys I am going 50% clean today! I'm about to head to the gym and hit shoulders and maybe a little triceps too. I think I'm gonna do some hang clean and press today...this off season is going to include a lot more power movements to improve my thickness. Might as well start today!

Fuckin love this shit! And Rob, I took a wide grip on the hc&p...pinkies on the outer rings. Could really feel the delts getting hit on those. Found a new fave shoulder movement!

right, these are like wide grip upright rows. really gets the delts involved the wider the grip.
also will keep the tris out of the movement.

Yeah that's one thing I noticed going wider on my working sets (went narrower on warmups)...tris didn't get hit hardly at all.

That's a crazy drop in one night! My last cheat meal though I woke up the next morning a pound lighter than when I started, so it's definitely in the realm of possibility...

Nice shoulder workout, I haven't done hang-cleans in forever, I might have to start incorporating more strength movements once I get back into offseason mode again

It felt good! I'm going back to the basics this off season and going to try to add lots of thickness to my upper body. I think the legs are good to go, may bring them up just a bit more, but focus will be on chest/delts/back.

I won't do squats w/ a barbell anymore because I hurt my back so bad the last time I did them that I was stuck on the couch for 3 months and spent a few more months rehabbing it. I never wanna do that again...and I think my leg development speaks for itself.

I've been moving more and more away from barbell squats myself. They're a nice ego boost, but I have some back issues myself, so I think I'm more or less done with them for the time being.

I'm going to start trying some higher rep stuff for my legs; like not going below 12 reps for working sets. Your legs look great; did you ever do any of this training when you were building them up, because I know Steve had you doing some crazy reps during prep.

Yeah man...I did ridiculous shit for them while bulking...like 20 sets for quads, 12 for hams...not counting all the double/triple/quad drops. I may start w/ like 20 reps and end w/ 6 or 8, then drop each set to failure. Looking back at it, I did some really sadistic shit that most people wouldn't think about trying.

His leg workouts are pretty legendary, too. I guess that's what happens when you train with the Golden Eagle.

Our Krispy Kreme went under a few years ago...it was a sad, sad today...though one of the local grocery stores really beefed up all their departments, and now has some of the best donuts I've ever had, along with my personal weakness, cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting :drool:

There's a KK on my way home from work, plus the grocery store between here and there carries KK donuts, and their own donuts, AND there's another bakery by the grocery store. No worries here!

1 large hand tossed meat lovers from Pizza Hut
1/2 order spicy bbq wings
2 slices thin crust sausage
couple hand fulls of Reese's crunchy pb eggs
2 cadbury eggs
couple hand fulls of various flavored twizzlers
1 slice pumpple cake
1 Coors Light
2 Cokes
1 overflowing bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch
1 snack pack
2 3 musketeer bars

That's all I can remember but I think there was more...weight was up from 189 to 195 this morning. I'm super sleepy so I'm glad it's an off day. No cardio, no weights...just rest. I am trying to figure out why my upper traps are so sore though...maybe from squeezing my shoulder blades together yesterday during my pressing movements? No idea...

Picked up a new client this week! One of my good friends came to me late last year and we worked together on diet/training...brought him down from high 170s to low 150s and he was looking really good. We ran that for about 8-10 weeks. Then we bulked him up through mid-March, and now he's in the process of getting peeled. He's a BJJ guy so it's a little different working w/ him on training, but he's 100% beast mode approved! My manager at work is also in a cutting phase...started in late February at 251 and he's almost under 230 now. He's doing P90-X and all that for training...showing drastic improvements and noticeable fat loss in his upper body, waist, and face. So last week one of the other guys I work w/ who is in his late 40s asked me about it, and I am now working w/ him. He starts on Sunday. First and foremost w/ him is getting him used to a structured, clean program to supplement his training. He also does P90-X and runs several times a week. I'm looking forward to seeing how he responds. Now that I'm off-season, I can focus on helping others out w/ their goals, which is something I really enjoy. And I have to thank Steve for all the knowledge I've gathered from working w/ him. Every time we change something, I am learning something new.

It's where they post extra curricular jobs that are available; there's one slot for an ALS instructor, which is the job that I want to land at Charleston to stay here four more years. Well, that one's at a place called Scott AFB. Have you ever heard of it? I hear that losers mainly live in that area; is that the general consensus?

Nah I don't charge because I can handle the # of people I'm working w/ right now. If they were actually going to compete in something, I'd charge, but I'm not that knowledgable about it yet so I probably wouldn't even do that. Or if I had more clients than I wanted, I'd charge. But 3 is fine. No biggie. They're all roughly on the same schedule anyway, so I can do all their adjustments around the same time.

bingo, people only listen (with exceptions but this applys to most) if they pay. When they pay, they are showing they truly are placing a value on the Coach or program or whatever. If someone isn't interested in paying, they won't listen or follow.

i love rows...i always incorporate barbell rows into workout no matter when it is lol...just have to adjust weight and reps a lil to keep injuries minimized

Agreed. He doesn't want to look like a Y or a tornado. he wants to compete in June so I steered him towards the board short wearing pretty boys since that's what he is right now. He doesn't mind because he doesn't know we all think it's ghey. After his show I'd like to help him build some legs so he could be a real bodybuilder and compete in the fall as one. That is if he can make through this show. he doesn't eat right now so who knows if he can follow a diet or not. We'll see. I know he's no Rich Wallace. ;)
