How important is when getting ready for a contest or dieting down?

it's not really, if your carbing up you should still have some food in your stomach..

i suppoe it's different for everyone....eg my friend who was competing was heavily depleted and ate every 2 hrs, so he had to wake up every 2 hrs and shovel sweet potato in his mouth...

I eat all day long. My last meal is about 11 and I crash around 1130 sometimes 1145. I definitely dont buy into that crap of dont eat after 8pm, thats a rule for fat couch potatoes who need someone to tell them not to eat, because all they know is chips, fritos and donuts at night.

Ive always eaten well into the night and never struggled to drop weight.

Did any of you ever follow this when getting ready for your first contest or were you pretty much in good shape to begin with?

I always have a protein shake before bed. I like the 8 hour PM casein protein. But I run out of it too quickly. So Ill just spike down 60 grams of Whey

Devil's advocate....

...But the laws of thermodynamics aren't what rules the success of a diet.

I eat my last meal before I go to bed, keep it as a fat + protein so I can make it until morning. IMO if I can't sleep because I'm starving, that sacrifices the quality of my sleep, which will definitely impact the quality of my contest prep. If I find myself hungry in the middle of the night, I'll try to adjust my meals so I'm sure to get food in to avoid it. If I absolutely need to, I'll go get some ANPB or something.

I never go to bed on an empty stomach, it doesn't matter if I'm dieting or not.

What does matter, is eating the correct foods before sleeping.

Consider - if you're already in an "empty stomach" state -which essentially means you've metabolized your recent refueling, to go to bed just means you're adding another 5-8 hrs where you're depleted. I'm not sure it accomplishes anything - like they said - if you're already bothering to follow an optimized diet, your body is expecting regular fueling. If you're a fatass and need a simple rule of thumb to get your eating habits under control, then this is the same as "don't eat after 8 pm".

I always have a protein shake before bed. I like the 8 hour PM casein protein. But I run out of it too quickly. So Ill just spike down 60 grams of Whey off-season try some non-fat cottage cheese. its a slow digestive protein and great for those night munchies
