I recently moved to a new area and sadly the 24 hr fitness i go to has hundreds of cardio machine but not one single fucking standing calf raise machine. It has a seated one and one leg press kind of device while you can work the calves with the leg straight but thats it. What are my options? I need to being up my calves and this is just fucked up that they have so many cardio machines but not one basic standing calf raise one

Grab a heavy DB, find something that is at least a couple inches off the ground, stand like a pelican and rep that shit out for as many as you can on each leg.

it would only work the soleus. The gastrocnemius is worked primarily when the leg is in a straight position. Not bent at the knee.

and stand on what? a couple of 45lb plates so my toes my higher than the ground? Might work though

Aye, my gym has a wooden box type platform that I take over to the Smith Machine for calf raises, works great.

If you don't have something like that at your disposal, then just use a leg press, you'll still be working the gastrocenimus.

another option is to use the leg press machine and do toe presses?

if your adament on standing, perhaps locate a set of steps and hold the d/b's.

The Smith machine will work fine. Set a plate or two down, put the bar on your shoulders and do them like you would standing calf raises.

This is the worst body part IMO in terms of soreness. My legs feel like they are locked up for days after a calf workout.....especially after a lay off

My Gym doesn't have one either. I use the hack squat machine to train my calves.

Amen. That's pretty much the best thing you can do for your calves.

Leg press machine works good or load the barbell up for squats and just do raises w/ it to failure...

Wish he was here...ho hum.

back to calves. After doing as many as you can we each leg, drop the DB and go for broke with both legs. Thats my routine as of late, 3 supersets, one with toes in, out, straight.
