With all of the crazy numbers I've been seeing lately by PL'ers, I can't help but think someone's going to break 3K total for all 3 lifts soon.

it will take a bit more time. these guys are maxing out a lot of the garments they use. big bench guys usually only do bench. its the big squat guys who will pose the biggest threat of getting there first.

With a valid 1/3 squat or without?

I think andy bolton has a chance...

lets do a hypothetical best meet breakdown:

andy: squats around 1200, deadlifts 1000, all that leaves is a ~800 bench..
so he has a good chance

donnie: squats 1300, and benches 800, he still needs 900lbs, but i thought i heard on the power hour saying he dl's raw. So no offense to don, but i just dont see him deadlifting 900 raw after needing to squat ~1300

hoff: squats 1200, benches 900+, needs to dl 900. Hard to do pulling sumo...

aj roberts: has about the same as hoff... so would need ~900 dl... but also pulls sumo.

i dont know too much about the int guys....

I think Andy has the best chance to break it, I think his biggest hurdle will be hitting a 1000lb deadlift in a full power meet.

agreed. its putting all those lifts together in one event and having the energy to do it is the key.

and my money at this point would be on donnie.

Donnie is a 900lb full meet bencher. Which leaves an 800DL, I think his PR is a 760, so he is the closest I believe.

Mark Bell was saying somewhere on his Qand A that Donnie Thomson doesn't even train at all his deadlift, due to some injuries, therefore 0 chances for him to break this number.

That's a good break down. Problem is that all the guys that could theoretically break the mark are getting old. This does not mean they can't do it but just like every elite athlete, their time is limited.

You could ask Mike Johnston about this in his Q and A, he trained with Donnie for many years and they are still good friends.

yeah, you're right, I don't know how old Roberts is, but I imagine he is the youngest of that group.

No hate - I don't know about you guys, but that squat was clearly above parallel, not meet depth

I agree, and so does 99% of the powerlfting comunity. I think it's a lift that he could've easily done to depth

ya, he has gone heavier. he had an uncharactoristic pause/drop at the bottom. strong out of the whole. congrats to him, but that lift was a gift... at least from this angle.

These guys are incredible, it would be interesting to see the size of their hearts considering the unbelievable amount of stress they put on it while moving such tonnage.

It was very close though, but I'd have to agree with you. It didn't appear that he went all the way up either.
