usually 16wks but I looked best after 20wks in 07...granted that was partially b/c Dave dried me out real nice like (say verrry southern ;) ) for four weeks after my other prep but I think a more tapering down works better for me...

I'm the same - 16 weeks is when its ON, but I start getting into the mindset at 20 weeks out. Honestly, this time, its been an informal 8 months out I started preparing because I had to come back from shoulder surgery as well. I'm very happy w/ where I'm at but I've got some serious dialing in to do. Started AM stepmill action yesterday.

i usually do 16, but things are a bit different this year. im doing north americans in 20 wks, and bulking for the next 6. so i will be doing 14. im not ever too far off, so itll be fine.

dave does 16 weeks preps...but I started it 18 weeks out(which is what I have done for past few years)( I started early because it was after holidays and I decided to EAT! hehe)

I remember for my first show I did 6 weeks, then 8 weeks for 2nd show, then 10 weeks for 3rd, 12 weeks for 4th, 14 weeks for 5th, then 16 weeks up to 18...hahaha......the longer the better and I like to start in shape!:D

I owe that to Dave. He got me in great shape a and we paced ourselves the entire diet.

I'm so glad to see someone else doesnt do the 16,18 week ordeal lol. I do 8-10 weeks depending on how I'm looking. Never longer then 12. But my diet NEVER includes cheats.... I know some diets include cheat days etc.... my diet doesnt...

I can't do anything under 16wks...my body is not a fast responder at all...plus my lower carries almost all my fat so it takes some doing...oh and no cheats...ever...never had a prep with one included and quite frankly I don't want to...once I'm in that mindset that's it for me...

I started cleaning out my diet, and my head 20 weeks out, and prep is 16. This is my first contest, but I'm on track and have responded really well.

I agree. Cheats go hand in hand with my offseason not my onseason. I find once I'm dieting it's healthier for me mentally not to cheat then it is for me to cheat....

and ironically I'm the opposite in terms of losing. I drop super fast lol....

LMAO- but you have FABULOUS legs so who cares hahahaa. I'm leg envious of ya Sharon!

In general I think it's hard to pinpoint how many weeks to diet and say its a universal truth for all women. Genetically I'm thin and I tend to lose weight rapidly when dieting. I think that's mainly because prior to when I was lifting I was super skinny. If I were to diet 16 or 20 weeks I'd have to build cheats in there and keep my calories higher in the beginning and to me, that's not a diet. Mentally I can't get focused enough to be stringent with my food, so for me its better to just hit it hard for 8-10 weeks with no cheats.

First time I did it 20 wks for a figure show.. and i got myself at 135lbs at 5'8 1/2"

I've been off for a year now i would might want to do a bb show instead for november that gives me 30 wks. Now im not sure if i have enough mass and i have gained some good bodyfat along the way lol.. Or maybe just stick to what i know best??? decisions decisions.. ??

right now my stats are:
5'8 1/2" at 165lbs

30wks would be WAY too long unless you mean a bulker and a cut...I think in the long run you'd lose too much muscle...

I'm in the middle of my first one, but by the time I step on stage in 9 days, I will have dieted for 16 weeks (no cheats). Looking forward to having a taste of sugar next Sunday! :D

I have done most preps without cheats

This one i have had 2 refeeds of 400g carbs first half of day minimal fat (pancakes, graham crackers, jelly beans etc) and my regular days are 200+ and 100+g carbs

And i am making the best progress i ever have. I have no problem going back to 100% after the refeed

For figure, yes 30 would be way too long.. Even at 20 weeks i found myself losing muscles.. I'm actually considering BB a bulking phase then cutting in that 30wks.. I'll probably need a coach to guide me..

I'm considering my current bulk as a part of my prep. I have to think that way to get my head in the game. Bulk is 12 weeks (starting the 7th now), cut will be 20 weeks.

12 to 16 weeks and I always like to start in shape. I have done it in 7 weeks, but I like to take my time and go slow pace , the way I go with all my decisions in life :).
