Burst bursa?

A buddy of mine who is 7 weeks out from a BB competition was having some elbow issues and was diagnosed with bursitis. He's been seeing a PT & getting a patch w/ some anti-inflammatory in it to help. So tonite he's in the gym doing shoulder presses w/ 100 lb db's and on the down motion he feels an explosion in his elbow, even his spotter feels it. Initially they were thinking the tricep was torn, but since its not bruising right now, they are thinking the irritated bursa exploded. He got a couple of those little ice packs to put on it and called it a day.

Has anyone ever experienced this? What sort of damage is done? He'll be getting an MRI lined up to determine the actual extent of the damage. But just ooking for any experience w/ this and any considerations for his ability to complete his prep & compete.

Highly unlikely Jill. Could be a number of things but a bursa sac exploding? Nah.

Guess we gotta wait for the MRI. Its really sad tho... 7 weeks out & very dedicated competitor. But see what happens.
