View Full Version : Your take on oats

I simply LOVE eating oats. I eat about 1.5 cups in the morning for breakfast and another cup throughout the day at some point. Is eating 2 - 3 cups of oats a day beneficial to a mass building diet? The reason I do it as well is that it fills me up and I don't get so darn hungry as when I just eating chicken breasts and other lean protein meals. Also, is it a good idea to have a cup of oats mixed with some glutamine and protein, BEFORE I go to sleep?

Lastly, congrats on the new website. I posted at MD (left now) and sometimes frequent Getbig, but I'm glad I was able to see the start of what hopefully will become another great bodybuilding hub.

As long as you are staying within your carb ratio's for whatever bulk diet your on, I'm sure you'll be alright.

I have a cup of oatmeal in water in the mornings now for my diet, slow carbs and fills the stomach up!

Hmm, don't shoot me down in flames, but I don't carb, protein or calorie count. I eat about 4 chicken breasts a day, a tin of tuna, two protein shakes and a potato. Obviously the meals include a heap of greens.

I don't eat any other foods with obvious high carb content. Just the oats.

I would suggest you start counting your stuff. Reason I say this is because how will you know what works and what doesn't work when you don't know your own dietary intake? I would suggest you get a game plan set up so you at least know whats going on.

3 cups of old fashioned oats a day every day. Love the damn things! Bland as hell when eaten plain but so damn good when you add in stevia, cinnamon, fruits, nuts, npb etc!

oats r the best thing ever. to me..they are a treat. like dessert. i actually dont like to keep oats in the house lol...oats and PB...i tend to go overboard on when eating. and my body cant handle too many carbs.

seriously...one of my fav things to eat. ive combined everything in my oats. some things incluse...PB and J, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, spray butter, raisens, craisens, canned pumpkin, choc syrup, pancake syrup, apples, strawberries, pears, blueberries, raspberries and of course protein powder. im sure ive done other combos...but cant think right now. most times i eat them dry mixed with tons of add ons and a bit of water or milk.

i do a keto diet when prepping..so no oats for me for contest prep.

but to asnwer the OP's question..yes oats for a mass building diet is fine. why wouldnt u want some carbs in your diet then? are the couple cups of oats the only carbs you are taking in? do u do any other type of carbs, like rice or yams. or do u just prefer oats.

Oats are a great, cheap complex carb. I like to add protein powder.

Those are the best. I don't make them often because of time but they're so much better than instant or rolled oats.

Soak'm over night. Rinse and Drain. Cooks in 5 minutes. Add raisins. And you're good to go:cool:.

Oatmeal FTW. I'm currently eating a bowl with sugar free maple syrup, bananas, and a little bit of cinnamon.

Also, eating oatmeal 1 to 1.5 hours before a workout will give you some crazy energy and it sticks around. None of this fleeting you feel pumped for 10 minutes bull shit and then crash like with so many of these pre-workout concoctions.

Damn, that's some good stuff.

Protein, carbs, and fats.
Perfect meal.

I've actually started precooking my oats the night before and leaving them in the fridge. They taste a lot better cold.

Oats are a great, cinnamon is like the best taste in the world. I'd sprinkle it on females and lick it off if they didn't think I was a freak.....

I eat oats every morning - really good source of fiber and steady energy. Not sure about oats before bed time, don't think it's suitable for everyone.

Quaker "1 minute" oatmeal, honey and cinnamon everyday for the last 3 years. Fast, cheap, and damn tasty.
