i was wondering if someone could post the stats of the 2 sites' forum members. i WAS trying to watch our stats go up here and keep an eye on MD's stats, but i guess i got banned or there server really is messed up.

also was wondering if anyone could find out the sales of MD? i want to see how much it goes down especially after the april issue.

thanks,

i would imagine there would actually be a bump in sales due to everyone wanting a look at what's changed and to scout for crap....wait for the issues in the summer...they currently have a little over 54,000...

Whoa....MD only sells 54000 per month??? How do they stay in circulation? I would have thought they had way more.

MD.com had 54,000 members. Only a tiny percentage are active.

MD magazine is not too far ahead. They print 100,000 copies a month. The sell through is between 70 - 80%. sometimes less.

The same thing will probably happen to the site.

more than likely...it would be like Flex getting a complete overhaul...i don't buy Flex, but I'd at least buy the 'new' issue.

depends...if they add someone like Dante Trudel to the roster they might get an influx...it all depends on whether Blechman gets too involved, and how Lee interacts with everyone..

Wow... That is a surprise! John, why is Blechman cutting pages? WHat's the reasoning for this? Is he losing advertisers? Or is Ron finally feeling overworked?

That still seems crappy to me. Doesn't Flex sell 700000?

Flex sells a lot more, so that is probably right.
seems the more hardcore, the less they sell?

id say m&f sells more then flex and mens health beats them all.

it has to do with the demographic getting larger, and how many store fronts are carrying the mag.

MD was an awsome mag, and it was worth that $6.99 it cost. I used to look forward to it everymonth. You did have to go out your way to find it though, so 100K copies not really suprised. It's just too bad that it's not hardly the same magazine anymore.

Mens Health magazine appeals to a wider audience. It's just a workout mag, not really focused on people wanting to be the next arnold. It's a mag that the average gym goers phyisique can match. So it's not suprise it's popular. Flex uses that "Muscle Tech" approach. They make it seem that you can look like the guys on the cover by the info provided in the mag. MD was the magazine for people 2 wise to FLex bullshit, and too jacked for Mens Health.

Man, I feel the same way. I used to look forward to my issue arriving in the mail. Once it was real lat and I seen my mail man sitting in his mail buggy in a school parking lot and it looked like he was reading a mag and I swore he took my shit. I just drove up next to him and looked in......He was going thru mail lol......My girl was horrified I was at the way I was acting......Boy woulda been KOd.

Why? If you had something worth saying one account will do it.

Magazine sales and readership figures are constantly played with. Some of our Bodybuilding magazines are actually audited (see ABC figures mentioned by some). MD was not. Indeed, and I'm sure John will back this up, it's figures were often 'teased' to encourage advertisers in. Some companies quote figures like 1,000,000 readers a month when in fact they are saying 5 people read each issue. Others include all the foreign/overseas printings too. Here in the UK the highest figure EVER for a magazine was a little over 44,000 in a month and that was back in the 80's (Bodybuilding Monthly) followed by another mag, Bodypower, which went under even though they were doing 36,000 a month. The UK market is about 5-6 times smaller than the US one.

The flip side of producing a 500 page, or as near as damn, magazine monthly and month in and month out is you NEED to have those 6 page promo ads and more. Hence 200 pages of copy and 300 of ads. John and Dave being on, according to the radio show, close to $250k a year between them and other costs only adds weight to that. Now work out what printing costs are on a 500 page magazine of which you get 100,000 copies printed and sell 80,000 a month. Even pulping the returns and allowing for about 1000 freebies a month (winners of the essays, advertizers and so on).

Looks like Md is already considering the loss of revenue and rumor goes theyve signed Dorian Yates.

As much as I love Dorian, how he looked, his gym and so on his articles are... dry. If they take him on (and had John and Dave still doing their 'thang') I'd like to see a hard core n dirty Dorian.

I hate sifting through over 200 ad pages. I would rather pay more for a subscription to a bodybuilding magazine that has much more pertainate information and less ads. I can't even see how it benefits some of the supplement companies when there are that many ads. It reminds me of the Sunday Newspaper. I open it up over the trash can and let all the ad inserts fall into the garbage then read the paper.

the ads crack me up...and sometimes it is the only way to see some of the newer photos of athletes that MD isn't really allowed to talk to...

this month's Ironman mag isn't bad...
