I've decided to keep a log on here, mainly just to track my progress and see what works and what doesn't.
My next contest is July 4th in Bath, Maine.
The events:
1.Trolly Pull
2.Max Tire Deadlift
3."Hell on Earth" Medly (Yoke,Farmers,Conan's wheel)
4.Keg drop Viking press
5.Stones

For the next two weeks, I won't be training events. It'll just be a normal Monday/Wednesday/Friday routine, split up as lower body/upper body press/upper body pull.
For the last 8 weeks I'm going to be experimenting with the Heavy-Light-Medium training style Bill Starr espouses. I'm hoping it will help with recovery issues from training events. Nothing sucks more than having a good training day on Friday and then being too sore for event training on the weekends. In theory, this should help with that. Of course, theory doesn't always work.

Stats:
Age: 29
Height: 5'10"
Weight: no clue - scale only goes to 350
As far as maxes, I have no idea right now. Been spending way too much time playing on that Hammer Strength stuff.

495x7
Forget knee wraps. The constant grinding in my left knee pretty much told me it was time to wrap it it up (no pun intended).

SLDL
135x?
225x?
315x10
315x10
365x6
My lower back hates SLDL's but with the trolley pull at the comp I gotta hit the hamstrings hard.

Hammer Strength Grip machine
190x10 with a 10 second pause at "crush" point (3 sets)

No videos, unless of course you're talking the kind for the 18+ section. And I'm not thinking anyone here wants to see that. Might try to get some at some point though and I'll definitely have some from the comp.
Music tonight was courtesy of a little band called allguilty. Thanks BLP, although the chiropractor next door was kinda pissed.

I'm pretty close strength-wise to all of those listed, but the medley will without a doubt be my downfall. That yoke will bury my ass. The 350 stone will kill me.
Trolley, even without knowing the weight, should be do-able. That's my kinda event.
Never done a viking press. It's a fixed apparatus, though, so I'm hoping it's easier that a barbell. And I do okay with a barbell :D
I'm starting to think this is a Platinum event though. What a contest to come back to lol.

So Tuesday night I put my head into a door. Long story.
Anyway, due to this I have a pinched nerve on the right side of my neck. Can't turn my head..can't lift my arm over my head, so I said screw it. Did a half hour of cardio Wednesday and only trained grip today.

Hammer Grip Machine
200x10
200x10
210x10
220x7
All with a 10 second hold at squeeze

Pinching Plates
2 25's flat side out x 1 minute
2 35's flat side out x 1 minute
2 45's flat side out x 20 seconds
Shouldn't have done the 45's but the good news is it seemed to stretch the "kink" out of my neck a little lol.

Back and forearms tomorrow...

Didn't train Monday thanks to the neck issue. It's still fucked up, to the point where I can't turn my head. When I drive, I just hope for the best if I have to merge or pass. Then again, isn't that what insurance is for?
Training today went okay. Stiff, but it's all good. Not going to list what I conside warm-ups because even I don't care about them.

Rack deads
495 x 10
585 x 6 (2 sets)
And yes, I used straps

Pull-ups
myfatass x 5 (3 sets)

Good mornings
315 x 5 (2 sets)
365 x 2
Wasn't trying to pussy out, my neck just really couldn't handle the weight being on my traps. And for those wondering, yes I keep the bar on my traps for GM's.

Barbell curls
135 x 8
155 x 8
185 x 4
Training biceps again. For the first time in years. Felt different.

And that was it. Today should have been chest, but since I didn't hit back last Friday I had to get it in. For me, a strong back is the most important thing. Still no idea what my weight is lol.

Hammer Strength shoulder press:
270x8
360x4,3,3
Weight here is TOTAL weight between both arms. For some reason I think my math is off. Pretty sure though that 4 plates a side is 360.

Wide grip upright rows
225x10,10
275x5,5
Used straps on these. I can never tell if I'm doing upright rows or high pulls, mainly since I don't know the difference

Dips
45x12
90x6,6,6
Once I got the first two sets with 6 reps, I had to do one more. Oh, and for those of you wondering, I'm not including bodyweight :D

Close-grip presses
225x15
315x5,4,5
Triceps felt real good today. Didn't even wrap my elbows.

I'm half your size and my close grips are either in the middle of the smooth and the ring or just touching the smooth (never closer). When I do reverse grip I actually prefer to go out just past the rings. If I go closer on rev grip then I have to start dropping the weight because it wrecks my wrists.

Only trained arms tonight. Legs need a break. Certainly nothing impressive or worth writing about.
However...once I got to the gym I remembered what I did Friday, which is good because I really did want to share it.
With the exception of a few sets of pull-ups, I did about 45 minutes worth of Zercher deads. Here's the kick, though: I used the Safety Squat Bar. You have to keep your arms a little closer together than normal, but the thickness is more like a Conan's Wheel plus....it's padded! No weird twinges on my bicep insertions.

That sounds alot safer. The guy in the vid looks like he almost bailed the weight about halfway up as well. I think I will try these on friday, thats my back day in place of regular deadlifts. Do Zercher squats work pretty good too? It seems like almost the same movement but just starting at the top.

It feels different, but you really are working most of the same muscles. I used to do it so if I did zercher squats I did regular deads that week and vice versa. Now, though, I'm going to do zercher deads until I get to my top weight and then go right into deadlifts since this next comp has so much emphasis on back strength.

I would definitely have to put some padding on the bar to not kill my bicep tendons. Every time I do front squats I always bruise my frontal delts, but they seem to hit my quads alot better than regular squats. Are zercher squats more like front squats?
