This week Monday they had the mens hockey team and womens hockey team begin summer conditioning of which I am assisting with all summer. Each team goes on a 2 mile tempo run (a run pace slightly faster then a normal 1 mile run pace) 2x a week. Its not like killer cardio but I would not consider it low intensity either. So thats 8 miles of running I have to be part of each week for the next 8 weeks. I dropped all my voluntary cardio this week to compensate of course but the difference is hardly enough to fully compensate for the new demands I have in front of me from work.

My obvious measure is to bump up calories from carbs to provide the needed extra energy to handle these runs. But that would put me at 500+ grams a day and anything above 475 before has made me soft in the past.

My other fear is that legs will suffer not only in training intensity and recovery but how fun is it going to be to run the day of or after doing legs!

Load up on BCAAs and try to meet the new caloric demands best you can.

BCAAs, more protein, and time your carbs.
