for some reason, squats don't really hurt my knees, i think because most of the load probably falls on my hamstrings and ass muscles, and i use a wide stance always. i also pause at the bottom of each rep, for 1 or 2 seconds

I do a lot of leg presses and Iso Lateral leg presses with no knee problems.
i stay away from leg extensions
