Agreed. I'd prefer to be 8 weeks out of contest shape at any given time. This doesn't necessarily mean I have a fear of growing fat. I am able to keep my bodyfat levels within 8 weeks of contest shape and still live a normal life without sacrificing the good things.

I'd also rather been in shape 365 days per year. I guess if I were chasing the size and I was younger I'd let myself get heavier but not a priority at this point at 48.

Exactly. I have no illusions of being a pro nor do I have the desire. I feel healthier staying leaner year round. I just turned 40 and at this point in my life while I am not ready to give up competing completely, I am also not willing to have it rule my life. For me anyway staying lean year round and, when the time comes, a short, easy prep is more conducive to the life I want to live than spending an offseason packing on the pounds and then 6 to 20 weeks stripping the fat.

It's been awhile since I updated but things have been going well. Work has been busy, coaching business has been busy, and life in general has been busy. I am up a few pounds and workouts have been as good as it gets. Feeling strong so taking advantage and being a bit more aggressive with poundage increases. Hope everyone is enjoying the last half of the summer!

For what it's worth, my best conditioning and stage appearances were after my shortest preps..6.5 and 7 weeks respectively. My worst showing came after my longest prep...22 weeks!

very interesting my man, are there any other variables you could attribute this too or do you think body just being in starvation mode for a prolonged amount of time?

great way of phrasing it , also if u were getting the itch to do a show but on the fence, and u had 20 weeks to diet to be in shape u might say ehh nevermind, if u had 8 ud say why not. not saying this is ideal for all. but for those w our perspectives, workloads and families etc sometimes it makes sense

DEFINITELY too depleted for too long......when I tried to load spilled way over.....think it may have been partly due to higher than expected cortisol levels as well.

As long as you are making progress Kevin, finding the balance with your clients and work with your social life cannot go wrong.

Anything new you have been doing recently training wise?

Weight still inching up. Basically been adding a little bit of fat on off days and a few carbs on training days as I go. Sitting at about 202.5 on my lightest days of the weight. My weight will get as high as 208 on a couple of days after my cheat days. Strength still increasing and workouts have been top notch.

Sorry about the slow response. Life has been hectic to say the least. Training, work, family stuff, more work, a few hours sleep and repeat. Training has pretty much remained the same. Swap exercises in and out as I plateau but the program itself remains the same. I stick with what works.....Lots of compound movements, very intense, little rest between sets, and quite a few supersets. I keep form very tight and go with a "beat the log book mentality."

Hey Lorrie! Thanks for dropping by. I have been enjoying the first "prep free" summer in about 6 years and enjoying every minute of it. Hope all is well!
