See What My Seaford Neighborhood Has Become Since Hurricane Sandy!
This is how bad my SEAFORD HARBOR neighborhood has gotten. It's like MARSHALL LAW down there at night ......National Guardsmen patrolling ......people trying to steal....and every day citizens trying to protect their stuff!

You should hang this sign outside your house. All joking aside, hope you are safe and can restore your home.

This is a time where everyone should be banding together to help their neighbor get through this catastrophe, not looting. What a great example we are setting to the rest of the world during a time of struggle. Glad I am not there and I hope the law enforcement blast those looting assholes.

Stay safe , Dave . My brother lives in the same neighborhood and has lost the first floor and basement to damage . Some areas were destroyed , like parts of long Beach , Ocean Side and Staten Island . In Ocean side generators are being stolen and gas tanks punctured

It's ridiculous how people turn to animals in matter of seconds as soon as we have a major disaster. Can you imagine what Americans would do if something hugely catastrophic happened like the tsunami a few years ago or the earthquake in Haiti

No disrespect, but after a couple of days without power and decent food ...everybody (or anyone) starts getting irritable to some degree. Trust me ...been there ...I've seen it. Being constantly on the cold side with no way to get warm ...and either nasty or no food ...strangers running around wondering if you can trust them, your guard would always be up for both you and your neighbors. You'd be amazed at your own behavior after a couple of days. Especially, if you were being told, "...you might get power in the next week ...maybe two weeks". I wouldn't wish it on anybody. A single bad, cold, hungry day can feel like a week sometimes.
You are "correct" natl128705 ...some people do turn into animals, but a lot of good folks don't ...but everybody is a little irritable, after a week of being cold, hungry, isolated and worried. Personally, I don't think the USA is prepared for any natural disaster in our own country. Everybody assumes everything will be alright ...usually takes a lot longer to get everyone cared for and safe ...always appears things are disorganized to the highest extent (eg. New Orleans disaster). I'd like to see decent news coverage on how the current help, rescue and repair is going up in New Jersey, Staten Island, New York and Long Island. How long did it take for response teams to show up. The news always covers the "disaster" or "storm" for ratings ...after the storm is over they stop any "intensive" coverage. I'd like to see what is being done for recovery by city, state, federal officials and other groups ...and how effective their efforts are ...never see that sh#t. Getting back up on your feet ...to some kind of normal ...is what counts. The hurricane was a short bump in the road (a few hours) that caused a massive amount of damage ...the part everyone needs to focus on is repairing lives and getting back to normal ...that's what takes the most amount of time and energy and is neglected (in my opinion) by the media and officials.

I've been without power, heating, cooling etc for more than a week, might not be optimal but I sure didn't start freaking out or looting, I stayed calm and didn't overreact, my main point really was what would our Americans do if something major happened, like major infrastructure damage or a situation where 10's of thousands died. I feel bad for the people that have lost there lives from this storm but in comparison to other major disasters we've seen in the last decade this is very minimal compared to some of these others.
