Do you think it has to do with eating a high carb diet and and taking pretty high amounts of drugs (yes I'm assuming a bit on the second one, but it seems like a safe assumption). Anyway, that combination seems like an invitation to water retention. Cut one or both down, its not like he needs the size, he's friggin GINOURMOUS!

Mike Francois 1995
Someone asked to see a good pic of Mike. Far and away the strongest bodybuilder I ever met. Went from not placing in a Jr Show to winning four straight pro shows three years later. Not quite the gift, but the "brute"

He would have. Period. He had colitis for a long time. There is a cliche in bodybuilding you know "He trains like an animal." And I know a lot of people are impressed with Ronnie COlemans feats of strength. But I have spotted mike on seated shoulder presses; 10 reps with 315. I have seen him bent of rows with the same but hold the bard at the top for 2 seconds. And I saw him squat 585 for 10 reps like it was a joke. And he did those all the way down to the flor. Of course, Johm you may recall too that we used to also bench 600 for reps in the day. Ok I got a little carried away. The stuff about Mike though is true

Chris,
Great info on one of the best bodybuilders of all time!!!!!!
Any chance you could share with us some info on Mike's diet (off season as well as pre-contest); was he a high carb or high fat guy? What was his pre/post workout nutrition like etc...
Thank you again for the pic and info

Mike ate off season a lot of pasta. A lot. He was methodical. I would say 4-5 oz pasta per meal with 8-10 oz of chicken were common day in and day out for 4 meals with breakfast being a shake and huge bowlk of grits. Before bed was another shake. Pre contest we always played it by ear. He was never a low carb guy. There is no no no way he could do that cause he just trained too hard. The dichotamy with Mike is that he is patient, caring, very soft spoken in all aspects of his life. Kind of like the nerdyy guy people take advantage of in high scool over his kindness. (Not saying he was a nerd or odd, jjust trying to point out how soft of a guy he is) But when it was time to train; wow. Coleman had nothing on him.

Chris, Do you think that it is an age thing? In that, as one gets older we process food differently?Maybe, he should consider dieting differently instead of the high carb route. His metabolism may have slowed. When I was in my early 20's I could eat anything, now I hav eto watch the carbs or I just puff up.

Well no. The guys 35. And these pics were 4 years ago. Keep in mind he overwhelmed everyone 3 years ago. One thing I will tell you about Jay Cutler, the competition, if they think he's comming in to this years show in ........fill in this blank........they are likley way off the mark. With resepct to everyone else, Jay is waaaay more dangerous then anyone else. He has somethiong that you can't get; drive. Not focus and intensity. Drive. Not "he's gonna give it his all" He's got the Rocky Balboa thinbg going on all the time and that is his strength. I would not bet against him. And, since he is again the underdog (in the sense that he is not the current title holder) then that just means his drive is past off the charts. He'll do whatever he needs to do I am sure and will put this one in the record books.
