Actually for the sport Han Danielle does.........fitness, with the intensity of the routines and the strength moves........Crossfit is most likely an asset and a very good way to train. That much I will give it 100% for her goals.
I just saw an overweight chick doing those squats today holding the bar over her head and I can't figure it out?? Squats are hard enough for most to master without adding the balancing of the bar overhead. Some will say "That works your core"........I would say squats in themselves will work your core without the risk of balancing a bar over your head. A bar you might accidentally dump on me and injure me.
I guess I just don't understand well enough? Maybe someone here can enlighten me. What do those Olympic squats do that regular squats do not? Serious question.
Let me say this one more time to top off this response......... I am sure for Danielle crossfit is VERY beneficial. I had not given enough thought to that when I responded previously.

My goal is to bridge the gap between bodybuilding and crossfit, both competitive and on a daily basis....bodybuilding is changing.
My gym, City Athletic Club in Las Vegas, has gutted the basketball court and turned it into an MMA and a CrossFit gym. It has gotten a great response from both the bodybuilding and crossfit athletes. There are more and more bodybuilders trying to switch up the routine and integrate crossfit into their weekly routine, even just once a week where the programming for that particular day fits into his/her training.
For some time now many fitness/figure/bikini competitors at both NPC/IFBB levels have been crossfitting as a part of their training. Increasingly more and more bodybuilders desire to be more functional, not only look good but feel healthy too. Many are seeking the conditioning that Crossfit develops through the intensity of the workouts. It encompasses so many different fitness disciplines (olympic lifting, running, gymnastics, kettlebells, bodyweight exercises) It is truly cross-training.
In addition to the fore-mentioned, it makes training interesting again. It mixes things up. Personally, I really look forward to workouts especially when halfway through I feel like I can't go on, but push thru, and when I finish successfully it is a huge boost to my motivation level as well as my ego. I feel like I can conquer anything that comes my way.
I have made great gains to my size in a short amount of time with Xfit workouts BUT traditional weight training is also essential to my training because its the only way to isolate/shape specific muscles.
And bottom line is that the 2 worlds are crossing into each other and It just makes sense to have a place where ideas can be shared not bashed because there is no debate that both styles are beneficial.
Thank you in advance to all those participating. I am excited to hear from more athletes and their training practices!

Nice work Danielle! I run a Strongman and a CrossFit gym in Ohio. Many of our clients are either bodybuilders and figure competitors or strongman competitors. Xfit helped everyone step up their game. I personally enjoy supplementing my strongman training with it.

Awesome!! Thanks I am very excited to be doing this! I invite you and your athletes to post their PRs, fav WODs, pictures of your gym as well as submit pictures and competitor lists to me- the next step is starting a database to cover Crossfit competitions all over the USA. (similar to bodybuilding contest gallery database) I want it to also help promote each individual gym. I want to also have a featured gym of the month to showcase as well. I invite everyone to submit articles or training blogs for which I hope to eventually be able to provide compensation for content just as we do for the other portions of our site!
Happy Training!Last edited by Danielle Delikat; 01-12-2013 at 08:15 PM.

Glad to have a CF section!
I've lifted for years and have been more in a PL mode for the past 5. I lead a Starting Strength session each week at our local CF Garage.
I use CF mostly for conditioning in the fall through spring as it is more difficult to get outside and stay active. We still ski and snow shoe, but that is typically only weekends, versus biking and hiking several times a week in the summer. CF helps me ID weaknesses and make them stronger along with keeping me prepped for the PT test...24 yrs in the Natl Guard.
