Time for a serious update on our gun laws. Shame what happenned to these children. I wish he didn't kill himself so I can go out there and stomp the living shit out of this punk motherfucker.

I think it is way too simplistic to blame this horrible tragedy on guns and cite gun control as the problem. Yes, one can argue that England's almost draconian gun laws (their Olympic shooting teams have to train out of country) have detered crimes with firearms......all until you come to Switzerland, which is per capita one of the most heavily armed countries in the world. Switzerland has no free standing army, so every citizen of age as I understand it not only gets issued firearms by the government, but is expected to keep proficient with them at one of the many shooting competitions they have in the country. If sheer access to firearms was the cause of such calamities as this school shooting, Switzerland should look like a war zone compared to the US. Yet despite the difference in laws with England the Swiss crime rate with guns is comparable with England. So it HAS to be something other than simple access to firearms, and IMHO that other thing is the issue of mental health. As long as being mentally ill carries with it a stigma that causes those suffering from it to hide it from everyone, including those who know how to treat it, we can more that likely expect these types of horiffic events to occur (consider that going all the way back to Columbine, they as well every subsequent shooter, including this one, have been described in ways that indicated they were mentally disturbed).

Very interesting points! Is there something from Switzerland that we can learn from? For eg do they integrate their mentally ill into society better than we do?
Also I wld like to bring up the point that mentally ill is a losely defined termed. There are people who born with severe mental illness and just by looking at them you can tell they are mentally ill. Unfortunately, many cases are not so black and white. My understanding of the conneticut school killings prepetrator is that he was one of those borderline cases. How then do we decide which person is too mentally ill to coexist with the rest of "normal society'' peacefully? R we going to go round passing judgement on who does not ''fit into society'' ?

Aside from the attacks in China this week , in 2010 over the course of just a few months they had 5 separate attacks on elementary school children . After all was tallied they had 17 murdered and near 100 maimed or critically injured . These attacks were done with a Hatchet , Hammer and Gasoline . No Guns , as they are hard to come by in China .

Timbo is completely correct. The media feed on these events for their own purposes, mainly to take advantage of the bump they get in viewership (& thus advertising revenue).

Actually, this event reminds me of the Lockerbie, Scotland, tragedy. Both occurred around Christmas time, both were senseless assaults on innocent victims, & both ruled the airwaves.

this incident is a perfect example of how govt will use fear to take away our access to certain guns and accessories. just like they did after 9-11 when they passed the patriot act.
