ARTICLE: What's All The Guru Talk About?
Guru.jpg
Bodybuilding is a funny sport, it’s the only sport where having a coach is looked upon as unique. I assume it’s because the average pseudo bodybuilder who lifts down at your local gym doesn’t feel he needs any help from anyone and certainly not from a personal trainer. The same guy I imagine opens up a bodybuilding mag and sees nearly every top pro in the sport giving praise to one of the gurus and can’t figure out why such a great bodybuilder would need help from anyone. So what is all this talk about gurus anyway?

Excellent article, I really like Matt's writing style. My question is who were the top gurus of the 70s 80s 90s? Who helped Arnold, Haney, Dorian?

Thanks bro! Charles Glass worked with Flex Wheeler, Cormier, and Dilette. Yates trained with Leroy Davis, more of a training partner though. As for Haney and Arnold...not sure.
Plus you have to remember that Aceto and Nicholls have been gurus for 2 decades. And we all know Flex Wheeler showed Ronnie the way by getting him on those special vitamins.Last edited by Matt Meinrod; 01-14-2013 at 01:25 PM.

Another great article by Matt, as all have been so far. I was never an incredibly active board member but I haven't even bothered to comment on a thread in months and months. That may change with Matt's articles which have by far become the highlight of the site. Matt is delivering something this site has sorely needed: timely, intelligent, and most importantly WELL WRITTEN material.
Keep up the great work, Matt.

I don't think we will ever have a top 3 guy at the Olympia without a guru again and have not for some time. They will be their best with that paid second set of eyes. Also, I don't think we will see the winner of Nationals or the USAs without a diet coach either. Going back a while they all have a guy. It is dumb to think of any winner of any sport without a coach of some sort.

HAHA knew my name would be brought up in this thread! I train and diet people from time to time mostly non-bodybuilding clients, last year I was a second eye to some friends that compete locally and prepped a first time competitor from Ireland get in great condition. I'm currently a freshman at Minnesota State University- Biomedical science major...I want to become a sports physical therapist if all works out well.
