Contest day report. I entered novice and masters classes. Weighed in at 220 on Friday evening. Dried out and filled out overnight andbegan prejudging early sat am. Classes were big with 18 in Masters and 19 in novice. At the end of the day I placed 10th in both classes. As much as I disagree with the result, I got feedback that I had all the muscle I needed and my posing was spot-on, I just have to address conditioning. All of the judges recognized me and agreed on all accounts. I know I should not have won either class but I felt I should have placed higher than I did.
All in all it was a great time and thiugh I am disappointed in the placing, I have accomplished a goal I envisioned about 28 yeara ago--to one day stand on stage as a competitive bodybuilder.
In spite of my placing, I cant feel bad when I look at the progress I have made over the course of the last 13 months.

Congrats on completing the transformation, Ken.
I'm sure you're disappointed, but with it being your first show- use it as a learning experience and apply it to the next one if you can ...you made on helluva commitment, and didn't make an excuse to quit...Training / Prep / Off-season coach: Kevin McDowell / Extreme One

A little update. My cals have jumoed approximately 1000-1100 since my prep. I gained a ton of water weight following the show but im back down to 2.5-3lbs above where I competed. I swear the weight went straight to my midsection. Still vascular so who k ows where ill be.
I also started a hybrid training program with a good blend of 5x5 and volume work. Strength is still down but I was able to push some weight over the past few days. Cardio has been cut at this point. Overall I feel good. Its been a transition for my diet as I used to run a version of cbl but now most of my carbs are focused periworkout or spread evenly throughout the day. Im also doing more frequent meals and im hungry as shit.
All in all, im doing fine. Im juat a.little over 18 and 20 weeks out at this point. Im prepping for my return to tue stage at the Ohio State BB championships and the Tricky Jackson show 2 weeks later. The Tricky is on my anniversary (and birthday). Will make it a.little romantic trip afterward and spend time with my biggest suoporter--my wife.
I learned a lot about things during this prep and have vowed to handle the next one better than the 1st.
Thanks for reading.

Well, ive been training oretty intensely the past few weeks. Startes a different style if program and it kicks my ass at times. Its a mix of 5x5 and volume. Multiple bodyparts per day. Strength is returning slowly.
Yesterday I hit a PR in DB flat bench in my last 5x5 set with 140'sx6. Then hit squat (beltless) @ 375x5x5. Then seated ohp on hammer machine @3PPSx5x5 then incline db at 100x5x5. also did some biceps. I was drenched in sweat because between sets if 5x5 I did accessory work/warm ups for next move. I was gassed.
Wt has moved to 228-230 depending in the day. Still relatively lean.
Next contest is the Ohio state npc in seotember then probabky the tricky jackson in KY two weeks later.
Prep should start in less than 3 weeks.
