i don't think it's a joke especially with the amount of money they bring in but it could definitely use some improvements.
the lack of posing is really a bad idea. it looks very catwalkish when they present their physiques.
at least let them hit an ab thigh shot or a classical pose from the 70s.
dave's idea with the shorts being about mid thigh and black is a great idea.

Hey, I respect and applaud your desire to compete, but by your own admission, you are a BB at heart - so why settle?
Should you be unwilling to partake in what is necessary to be competitive in the NPC, then hell, compete in a natural federation (though those are a joke too).
In other words, your post highlights my disdain for MP - it turns BB's at heart away from BB for something far easier to attain by yours and other competitors own words.
Where is the inherent nobility in that?

Well said!!! I've competed in BB and MP. The whole argument against physique is getting a little long in the tooth. I am tired of hearing that "Physique guys don't train legs," or "any guy off the street can do it." I doubt very seriously that their are many MP pros who neglect to train legs, or have not at least taken an interest in competitive bodybuilding. To the layman, it's a type of bodybuilding show whether you like it or not. Three years ago, the NPC/IFBB landscape was vastly different. Any guy who had any sort of desire to compete had to enter in BB. We all looked up to the same pros, followed the sport and trained/dieted in the similar fashion. I like MP because a) it gives me an option to gain competitive experience while growing, and b) I feel like I don't have to put my health/life aside in order to be 285 at 6'3." I compete in two other sports and like having the time/freedom to do so. Most of the competitors I've encountered at shows look fantastic; they've got enviable physiques from a popular (typical woman's/what most men would like to look like) standpoint. I've found that many of those who lambast MP or bikini on bodybuilding boards have never once competed themselves. No, I'm not pointing any fingers on this forum!
That said, i agree that the board shorts and lack of posing discredit the division. Some changes should be made in order to give competitors greater freedom in presenting their hard work.
The WBFF has fitness model categories where its common practice to pose and show off legs. Classic physique" categories are well-established in other countries. These divisions seem to strike an overall balance between muscularity and perceived attainability. Maybe the NPC/IFBB can find a solution.
Right now, I liken MP to "men's figure."
Maniacal: Good post... I sympathize with your points exactly, but have my own personal reasons for competing in both divisions at the moment.Last edited by Carnivore; 07-10-2013 at 08:42 PM.

It is a joke.
And to those that argue about an "entry point" for those not "big enough"...when did this become Little League? Does everyone need a trophy? Are your egos THAT fragile?
How about this? How about do what I did for 5 years after leaving the Teenage Division? Take your ass-whippings like a man and keep working until you earn a win.
I detest this board shorts-clad bullcrap.

I don't understand why anyone would want to do a men's physic myself.

i have nothing against the physiques...I have nothing against the division...I have something against how they present it. Board shorts and the posing you can't tell me it's not a pure pageant/fashion show.
I'm not sure it matters anyway. Dude look who you are talking to I make fun of bodybuilders all the time so for what it's worth I don't think the "sport" of bodybuilding is better. I think they are two different things.
I think you have pageant events like bikini and MPD adn then you have physique competitions like bodybuilding, fitness, figure. I don't think any one is better...I think they are different.
To me it's like saying "come out to tonights football game. And then when the second quarter starts they are playing soccer.
