The pussification of bodybuilding...
I find it interesting that in the past 5 years, all the effective behaviors that bodybuilders have discovered over the past 100 years are now deemed "old school" and are considered " unnecessary and silly".
1) eating every few hours: no longer necessary
2) eating specific foods: no longer necessary. (Iifym)
3) eating at all!: not necessary. (Apparently you can now get huge while fasting. Who knew!?)
4) doing lots of cardio: this is the devil himself! you can now get the same results with 17 seconds of HIIT cardio every 5 the day and thus avoid that ubiquitous METABOLIC DAMAGE!
is it a coincidence that:
A) It's all the difficult shit that has to go?
B) There isn't one TOP bodybuilder who has abandoned their draconian ways in favor of these " new and improved" tenets ?
C) The lineups at every major show I attended this year had way higher numbers and way lower quality?
Anyone? Anyone?

Nobody has totally abandoned all these "ye olde" (yet relatively effective) bodybuilding diet principles but alternatively people have grown empowered to discover that there's more than one way to Rome and whatever works for one may not necessarily work for the other.
Smart people realise this and use what fits for their circumstances.

Eating few hours is only necessary if you are taking insulin or are a total ecto. Some body types need to restrict calories more.
HIIT cardio is more effective generally- IF you can do
It- intense- level 16-20 -5+ mph stuff.
It's all about metabolism. I didn't lose much fat til I said sod it to most of what is currently preached and severely restricted cals while doing HIIT at least 5 times a week. Next year, once I am healed up, my whole prep will be like that. To each his own..

I agree. Youtube a video called POWERLIFTING MENTALITY. I love these guys looking for an excuse to take a day off from the gym. An excuse to be lazy. I grew up watching big eaters like Priest, Matarazzo, etc. I've always found, on some gear, I can eat a lot of clean foods and get bigger/leaner/etc. Right now I'm eating a ton of eggs, steak, rice, potatoes, etc keeping fat as low as I can and I'm getting bigger and leaner.

Here's hoping I can get this up before Bob copy and pastes a study that takes up 3ft of screen....
I could care less about how somebody achieves their look...pop tarts? awesome. Sweet potatoes? great. I fall in the middle on the debate. I don't think that there's such a thing as "magic" clean food, but I do think that certain micronutrient dense foods should comprise the bulk of ones diet. If you can get away with "unconventional" food choices that fit your macro nutrient and overall caloric goals then more power to you. What pisses me off is how SOME of the "iifym" crowd talk to those of us who legitimately ENJOY eating old school "bro foods" 6x per day like we're idiots or something.Last edited by Jordan Coburn; 09-24-2013 at 10:15 PM.
