Possible Cause of ED
Hi Dr. Nathan,
I would like to get your thoughts on this. For someone who has normal blood count levels, but does have degenerative discs in their lower back, does this sound like a plausible cause of ED.
"The nerves of the lower back are the second part of the triad of Erectile Dysfunction. The pudendal nerve, which arises from the L5-S1 levels, is important in both erection and ejaculation. We call it the "point and shoot" nerve."
I have never heard this as a possible cause, but I just read it on another site and I wanted to see if you thought that is something I should look into.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Good Point,
Here is one study that states the pudendal nerve conduction studies may help in the evaluation of erectile dysfunction.

What test would need to be conducted in order to see if the Pundendal Nerve is causing the ED? Thank you again for your help!

The test would be a nerve conduction study of the pudendal nerve. Here is on study about this.

One last question, do you feel that Dostinex/Cabergoline is a possible option in trying to help improve ED for individuals who do not have high prolactin levels? Thank you!

Here's one study that says Dostinex may help with producing a firm erection. The study is not big and is specifically for psychogenice impotence.
This is not my area of expertise.
Please consider talking with a urologist regarding any impotence issues.

Hi Dr.
I have been doing some more research on the pudendal nerve, and I noticed that (thankfully) I do not have any of the other symptoms typically associated with e pudendal nerve issue, other than ED. Do you think the pudendal nerve could still be causing this, or would the other symptoms need to be present in order for it to be a nerve issue? I have a call into my Dr. about seeing if I can get a nerve conduction study, but he has not called me back in a week. Thank you again for your help!

Urology is not my specialty. Please ask you question to a urologist.
