That's one of the rudest questions I think someone can ask. One should never ask a woman her age or her weight. One should never ask a female bodybuilder her age, weight or if she uses. Funny thing is she'd probably tell you her age or weight! Considering the fact that it's illegal...imagine walking up to someone and openly asking if they break any other laws. LOL
So yeah, I've never been asked...can't offer any suggestions although I will be interested in hearing others responses...hopefully, someday I'll need to use them. You guys with the huge sponsor ads in your signatures make reading the forums annoying.

I've never admitted it to anyone outside of a couple guys that frequented power meets I also attended and my wife obviously. As far as anyone outside of a spouse is concerned -- In no way is any of their business -- they can speculate until their heart is content -- and will with or without your permission -- but it will never be anything outside of speculation in my case.
Of coarse you question was how to handle it:
My most common reply is that steroids or any other performance enhanement drug is an advantage I could not afford even if I knew where to find them.

I tell people that I'll let them guess b/c regardless of what I say they'll believe what they want...I hear, she has to in order to get that ripped, or, no way, she's not big enough...so if I get asked (usually at work) I just smile and say, guess...

Ignore it/get used to it. I get asked all the time and I'm not even that big. Most of my bodybuilding friends are way larger than me. I don't use myself, but it pisses me the f*** off when people ask. I can only imagine how mad I'd be if I actually did. I just think that people in general are very rude/unclassy. Asking if one uses is no different from asking one's age, weight, salary, etc... No need for it.

I try to roll with it and send it back to them, according to how they ask because everybody does ask in a slightly different manner. Furthermore, everyone asks for a REASON, and that is your clue as to how to answer without answering. My usual first response is
"May I ask why you ask that?"
Not "why you're asking", but "why you ask". Throws them off a little bit, Ive found that saying "you're asking" makes it too casual. Anyhow, that sends it right back to them, and their answer will tell you how best to answer. USUALLY, it's something along the lines of them thinking you're bigger/more "toned"/fit than "most" people they know.
"You're so big..." "You're pretty damned muscular..." Etc.
Never let them say something general, like "Oh I was just asking", get them to tell you why they want to know, period. They're invading on your privacy, make them. Politely... I mean, you dont want them to start negative stuff like that "roid rage" thing with you or about you.
Anyways, if they answer the usual way, or even if they dont, always answer them back in the form of a question. Always.
"So you dont think it's possible to get this big/ripped/"toned"/fit without a good, healthy diet and smart exercise program combination? You think someone can just shoot up and look like me?"
Politely, but that puts it right back on them. If you always answer in the form of a question, it will put it back on them, and Ive found it usually helps them see the ignorance of their question and or the opportunity to educate them on the subject of FITNESS. Now why is that so important? Because it takes the focus off the usage and puts it where it belongs, and hopefully they repeat it somewhere or make mention of it and you get less questions like that from people around you. Doesnt matter how they answer, always answer back in the form of a question.
"No, no.... I just know you cant get that big without roids, I know a lot of people at my gym/back in college/when my brother, cousin, best friend etc used them he/they got like you".
Your answer
"So that's the only reason? You honestly dont think you can get this way without them? You've never bothered reading/learning about proper diet and smart exercise regimen?"
Always works for me, havent had to answer once so far. Hope that helped.

I only discuss it if they tell me they use first, otherwise my lips are sealed.

When someone asks me that I always answer it with a question.
They say: "Hey are you taking any steroids?"
Me: "I'm flattered that you think that but don't you think i'd weigh a little more than xxx lbs?"
They always look, and think, "yeah you must be right"
You girls can do the same. Just say "Don't you think i'd weigh more than 130lbs?" or whatever your weight may be.
