Cholesterol worries while "bulking"
I'm currently prepping for my 1st contest that is in March (men's physique). I've been bulking as I needed to gain some size. I Eat several high protein meals a day plus 2 protein shakes. I've packed on 26lbs in 2 months and have gained a lot of strength.
My concern is am I putting my overall health in jeopardy with this? Before beginning this quest I had a high cholesterol issue that I got in check with a good diet and little meat. I'm affraid I may be un-doing everything I was able to do.
A few notes-
I'm also using creatine supps, BCAA's and a pre-workout energy drink on a daily basis. Diet is heavy on chicken, broccoli, potatoes, oats, eggs & milk.
I'm 31, 6 foot 1 and have gone from 184-211lbs in about 2 months (this is the heaviest I've ever been). I feel heavy and have been sweaty & hot quite often lately.
Any thoughts or vitamins/minerals or diet changes I might want to incorporate to help protect. myself from high cholesterol would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Oh, i'm definitely bigger but am not looking lean at all really and can't wait to start cutting. No idea how much is muscle and how much is fat, water weight, etc. I'm hoping that I can get back down to around 175 by the contest in March and have a little more size than when I started with.

Hi joe i dont see you being overly fat at all here i think a 16 week prep would do the trick more than fine probably be ready early if you do it right. a few things about cholesterol
1) how much blood cholesterol you have circulating is largely influenced by genetic make up and predispositions
2) healthy fats can help lower ldl and increase hdl
3) the only true way to answer your question would be fasted blood work but lets say you do so and result come out unfavorably.
i would implement the following
1) start taking plant sterols
2) take 3 grams of omega 3 fish oil daily
3) start taking a fiber supplement as this will significantly reduce ldl and tc
4) although as far as supplements are concerned red yeast rice extract is a borderline supp/medication you know you can have that in your back pocket incase all other non medicinal aids are unsuccessful
5) let the fats in your diet be made up of avocado, olive oil, macnut oil and even nuts these are all super foods
6) if not doing cardio already incorporate some into your regimen
other things we should know in order to help you further is what were the circumstances regarding your first incident with bad cholesterol? what were the readings? were you using any steroids or prohormones? how crappy was your diet? etc when giving us the cholesterol numbers please provide TC, LDL, HDL, Trygl,

Do not take more protein because it is dangerous for health, only limited amout you take, if you want to take more than you consult to doctor first.

of course its always safest to consult a doctor best. But the most imminent danger with regards to over consuming protein is overworking the kidneys therefore hindering your renal function. Good ways to monitor is through checking your gfr, creatinine and BUN. If those tests are elevated you may want to see a nephrologist or have your GP do a protein/urine test.
