Hot Yoga? John Meadows why does Mark Dugdale do it?
Anyone ever do hot yoga?
I tried it last week and man I have never sweet so much in my life. 90 minutes of 110 degree heat caused me to loose about 6 pounds of water and I'm only about 160 so for me that is alot. I have felt pretty good after I have to say, I was sore in my abs, lower back and neck, my skin feels better, my muscles are not as tight, and my bloat is down. Anyone know if its actually a good detoxifier? I know Mark Dugdale does it but I'm not sure why. Maybe John Meadows can chime in.

I did it weekly when contest training. I'm CONVINCED that it helped recovery, flushed toxins from my body and helped prevent injury.
I've NEVER felt healthier than when I was doing Bikram Yoga once or twice a week, consistently.

Yep, once a week during prep , i cut it 3 weeks out so nothing manipulates my water. Its a great form of cheap massage therapy. Helps with deep stretching and flexibility, and overall it makes me feel better it also helps with posing ( twisting shots). Forewarning: you will be the freak of all freaks in that room : muscle + lean + heat + supplements = crazy vascularity......they will stare!

"Hot yoga works to literally stimulate your body's largest detoxification units, including your lungs, kidneys, intestines, and skin too. A hot yoga pose called the "Wind Removing" pose stimulates the transverse, ascending, and descending sections of the large intestine. Built up toxins can then more easily move through your body. Your liver is also compressed in the "Half Tortoise" pose. In doing this your liver is getting a massage, and since hot yoga stimulates blood flow, your internal organs will function more efficiently and cause your body to become more able to remove toxins naturally. Hot yoga's breathing exercises allow your organs to receive stimulation during the entire class, as they compress them as well.
And what about the detoxification of the skin, your largest organ? Due to the circulation of blood during hot yoga, you will feel renewed and your skin will be refreshed after a session, but be sure that you're drinking lots of water before, during, and after practice to avoid dehydration. You can also take things a step further; because your pores will be completely opened after a class, you can go to the showers and use a facial mask to easily help draw out additional impurities. "

Now, this could very well be tree-hugging, hippie-crap gobbledygook, but I FELT tons better. And during a contest prep, when feeling like crap is the status quo, placebo is good enough for me!

The Lymph System has no pump. Unlike the heart you are the pump. Yoga pushes and squeezes the crap out of this system which is a good thing. Among many life maintaining functions the Lymph system picks up and disposes cellular waste thru a complicated merger with the blood system. It would take a medical book to explain this system in full. Google and have fun.
