ARTICLE: The Tijuana Incident..... By: John Hansen
The Tijuana Incident
The Arnold Schwarzenegger-Sergio Oliva rivalry came to a dramatic close in 1973. Although the two did not officially meet onstage in competition that year, they did face off against each other in two very wild and strange confrontations. It was a fitting conclusion to a heated conflict that had pitted two of the greatest bodybuilders of their generation head to head against each other.

John is the official bodybuilding historian! another great read. John thanks again for the constant preservation of our history! Have you ever seen the pamphlets arnold used to sell by mail order during his Olympia reign? My dad bought them in the 70's and I found them the other day, I will scan them and put them up! they are pretty cool!

Awesome article and wish i could find a youtube of that show so i can see how Oliva went off lol. Arnold was spoonfed competitors for most of his career. For pumping Iron they made sure they only invited Nubret late so they could ensure Arnold would win. Arnold was amazing no doubt but Joe also made sure he won.

Yeah, I wish I could find that show on YouTube also! I agree with you that Weider protected Arnold in competitions but I think Arnold was so far ahead of most of his competition that he didn't need to protect him. Plus, Arnold was extremely competitive so I'm sure he would have welcomed the challenge, even if he would have been beat. I would have loved to have seen Arnold compete in the 1971 Nabba Mr. Universe against Bill Pearl and Sergio and it's such a shame that Sergio didn't continue to compete in the Mr. Olympia in '73, '74 and '75.

John, I wish Dave would have you on HMR for a regular (monthly or so) segment...call it "Muscle Memories" or something to that effect.
Just a 10-15 minute segment where you talk about something from your years in the game...that'd be awesome!
Another great article!
