Default Squatting heavy and bladder control....

Some of us women, especially the ones who have had babies, have had this problem. Besides wearing a pad...which doesn't always work...what else can you do?

Latest I read on it said that it may be that the muscle are too tight and can give you that same issue. It also said Kegels don't really work. http://mamasweat.blogspot.com/2010/0...s-are-not.html

I don't squat heavy, yet my bladder has a point of leakin' a bit, yet only when, i do not know i have to go to the restroom. this happens when i am workin' out at the gym only, not at home.

When you put any strain on the muscles around it I guess. That really is frustrating. You would figure someone would come up with a solution to fix this with all the other medical miracles they can do.

They can send a man to the moon, but...

    On a serious note...

There are many types of urinary incontinence, the most prevalent being "urge incontinence" — an urge to urinate so sudden and strong that you often can't get to a bathroom in time. When this type of incontinence has no identifiable cause, it's called "overactive bladder."

The drugs typically used to treat this condition include darifenacin (Enablex), fesoterodine (Toviaz); oxybutynin (Ditropan), solifenacin (Vesicare), tolterodine (Detrol) and trospium (Sanctura). These are all anticholinergics — drugs that block the effects of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter associated with muscle activation, learning and memory.

I know sometimes they do surgery and put a net in to support the bladder.

There is a gal I work with that had the surgery done. She doesnt workout but it would happen when she sneezed or laughed etc. she was out recovering for 8weeks. But she HIGHLY RECOMMENDED it.

There are certain movements that hit me especially the decline crunch or any ab movement and recently when I hit a new PR on my HS lat pulldowns. I just go to the bathroom before doing the movement that trigger it now, even if it doent feel like I have to go . Altho its a pain in the butt to run to the bathroom in the middle of my workout it certainly is worth it

I had a client that had the surgery done. It didn't help her. And yes, its a pain to have to hit the bathroom before you do certain moves. Doesn't seem to help anyway. I lift heavy all the time, in everything I do. I guess there's no sense in bitching about it. Just thought someone might have a different idea of how to get around it, that we haven't heard before.

I have the problem in both the squat and deadlift. I've always been told women pee and men shit during heavy lifts. I just ALWAYS wear some sort of pad. I know it happens, I have literally peed on the platform before, but doesn't mean I wouldn't like to avoid it if I can, lol

I've struggled with this too. I think you should rule out things at a GP and then a gyno too.
I found out 2 years ago during an ultrasound that I have an inoperable myometrial fibroid that pushes against my bladder and causes some of that problem (and also the intra-abdominal pressure), on top of what I thought was a "weak" pelvic floor. I now know better.

Over the years, I've decided that I would,
    A: Pad
B:Keep lifting heavy, hitting bathroom whenever urge hits.
C: Wear a thicker undergarment when lifting and bring another for changing.
D:Screw embarrassment and keep working towards that 275 back squat.

BTW, It sucks if you're in a small flight during a lifting competition but LOTS of people at meets are doing the same thing!
