Christian Duque: Welcome to StrengthAddicts.com, please take this opportunity to tell the audience a little bit about yourself.

Neil Tkatchuk: My name is Neil Tkatchuk and I am 28 years old. I am 5"10 and I currently hover around 195-200lbs. My contest weight is between 175-180lbs. I was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and I currently reside there with my wife, Erika. My educational background includes a Bachelors in Kinesiology majoring in Fitness & Lifestyle and I am also a CSCS (certified strength and conditioning specialist, CPT (Certified Personal Trainer), as well a Certified Sports Nutritionist through the International Society of Sports Nutrition (CISSN). My wife and I currently operate our own strength training facility and online nutrition consulting and personal training company, Trench Fitness.


Christian Duque: Take us back to when you first got started weight training. When and why did you start lifting?

Neil Tkatchuk: I have been weight training for about 9 years now. I originally got started after high school as I was transitioning into the University lifestyle. My younger brother, Marc, actually started prior to me and with encouragement from him and my mom I decided to give weight training a go. We both trained hard (although it definitely was not smart training at that time) for the entire summer and I was immediately hooked on it. I loved the way it made me feel and the results that would follow a hard training session. From this point on I began to devote all of my time and energy into educating myself on training and nutrition principles. One of my first reference guides was actually the Arnold Schwarzenegger New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding.
