IF he wanted to, I think it would be possible. That said, a WR deadlift dosen't make a better strongman.
3-4 guys pulled more than Derek at the Arnold but Derek brought home Loius Cyr. He wants to be the UNDISPUTED strongest man in the game (strongman game). That means winning the Arnold, Fortissimus AND WSM in 1 year. A huge feat for sure but if accomplished...
Also keep in mind Dereks past injuries... Docs said he would never train heaby again so 960+ tire deadlift at the Arnold is still pretty silly!Just doin' my thing.

or Felix. however, I still think that most strongmen would rather be more "rounded" and wouldn't bother putting in the time to acheive that kind of pull. It would be hard to break that kind of record and still have enough time/energy/recuperation etc to still excel at stones/farmers/yoke/truck pulls etc.
A huge deadlift is great and will help many other lifts but to focus on beating Andys record would certainly detour other event efforts.Just doin' my thing.

Saw Derek last night.
He is down to about 304lbs or so after being sick for a while, but is already getting into training for Fortissimus.
He is not ignoring this board but he is on a few different forums and did NOT have his computer since the Arnold (just got it back).Just doin' my thing.

First and foremost, thanks for all the kind comments guys. Its a real pleasure to read through the comments from the Arnold! The contest didn't quit start as I wanted but I was able to pull off a win after really F'ing the frame carry on day one and the stone on day two, I was expecting and needed a much better performance to guarantee a victory! In the end I was able to just pull off the win.
As of right now I'm just getting over the flu which lead to Bronchitis (sp). All in all I was just over 320 on day one of the Arnold but dropped down to a low of 304 yesterday!! My weight has been all over the place as today I was back up to my normal weight of 312. I was back at the gym wednesday after the Arnold doing some light upper body stuff. The only day I was really feeling weak was yesterday but I still almost managed a 404 lb log clean and press. My next comp will be at the Mohegan Sun Casino here in CT on May 17th. I'm already training for the comp even though the events haven't been picked yet. I plan to train hard till April 11th, then I'm off for a week on a cruise to the western caribbean, I did this last year at the same time and put on 15 lbs!! I still train on the board the boat, I stick to a version of my very high rep training and cardio since they dont have much weight. I get a few stares while working out but this modified training is very painful and refreshing. I'll follow the workout up with plenty of simple carbs (beer) to aid in the weight gain of course!! When I come back, hopefully at 330, I'll continue my regular brutal training and see how I want to dial in for Fortissimus. As of now I'm thinking I want to be around 320 like I was for the Arnold, I was very strong at that weight and my conditioning was still fine as demonstrated by the dumbbell clean and press. The Mohegan Sun contest will just be a tester for my conditioning at a BW of 320 since the contest usually has six events with very little rest in a single day. This will be a good gauge for Fortissimus!!
BTW Joe it was great seeing you yesterday, I hope you enjoyed the party!!
