Fit over 50.Training for an NPC bikini show.
Wow! What a year it has been! I started competing this time last year. I'm 56 years old. Just placed 3rd in the Seattle Emerald Cup Masters Bikini....my 5th show to date. What a roller coaster ride! Starting off like a rat in a maze...not knowing which way to turn, to slowly coming into my own and becoming a seasoned athlete on stage! I want to share my journey of being fit over 50, on and off the stage. I'm no spring chicken anymore. My body has made incredible changes but my saggy butt is slow to come around! Hormone therapy has helped increase muscle mass. Thank you Lord! Diet is key but should I or should I not count macros? By the way...what the heck is a macro? Posing in those 5" heels....well thats a completely separate chapter! Dang, those bikinis are so small....oh yeah...then there's work...my livelihood. I'm a flight attendant so I'm in transit every week. Trying to fly trips that have good gyms at my lay-over destinations. Up between 3am-5am. Fly/Work a full day then hit the gym. I'm tired before I even get there. Oh the mental war games I play with myself on an on going basis. I've learned a lot about myself over this past year. I've also learned a lot from others. So grateful and humbled by everyone's help. I continue to improve every show. I have done 5 shows to date and my next show is in July.
My drive, commitment, focus and discipline will get me there via my coach
I have 3 trophies to date..looking to add more and improve more on stage. One major detour though....I was just diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia. Total bummer...still trying to wrap my head around that news but continue look look ahead and not behind! I have a show to train for. I will share work outs, diet, tips, tricks and my mental stamina in the weeks ahead. Brooding or moping isn't in the work-out plan. Sleep is though and I need to make some time for that now.
Good nite!

I am 9 weeks out from Masters Nationals in Pittsburgh. So, I am constantly thinking about my goals, strategies and future work that my coach and I need to deal with. Not only do I have to consider my diet and work outs but now I have to add my "condition" into the equation. I feel strong and energy is high so I need to take advantage of that!
My job has me in Dallas, Texas for the week doing merger/cabin aircraft training at the American Airlines Training Center. It's a great week of training but I am a little stressed about food. We have a meal ticket for 3 meals a day at the campus cafeteria. I have brought 4 days worth of food. So I will be forced to comply with their "regular" food shortly. They actually have healthy choices! I'm probably more concerned about workouts though. The hotel "gym" consists of 2 treadmills, and elliptical and a recumbent bike. That's it! :P
I went to a local gym the first day, but van service and class don't jive the rest of the week. The training facility has a gym so thats a plus. I also brought Insanity and Pure Barre videos. Sometimes we just have to make due. Stressing out over it won't help matters. Getting up at 4:45am to work out before class is a must this week. Just trying to "make ends meet" for myself and my coach. Being constantly in transit brings all kinds of challenges with training. Being creative and positive is a plus but that too is challenging at times. Everything adds up in the end. Making excuses, skipping work-outs...easy to do but the guilt....oy vey! Oh yeah, and the body never lies. What you put in it and how you take care of it shows up sooner than later. Off to bed for that early am wake-up. Insanity tomorrow morning in my room.....I hope my neighbors don't hear me!

I don't know if you know how to post pictures here or not? Here you go.....plus you will be fine with a few days away from the weights. Just do cardio and some simple body weight exercises, good luck.
