Cholesterol levels varying greatly
I had my annual checkup about 2 months ago... total cholesterol came out to 202 with HDL in the high 50's... my doctor was not worried at all, plus I'm told that for Blacks, "normal" levels tend to run higher.
A couple of weeks ago there was a health expo giving screenings... I had it checked there and it came out to 161.
The only think I recall changing was that I started taking Omega-7 supplement as suggested by Dave on an HMR episode.
Could the results have changed that drastically in a short period of time? Or do test results vary so greatly depending on who administers it... For my annual exam, a couple of viles of blood are taken and sent to a lab. For the expo, they prick your finger and take a very small sample. Should I expect such results, or could the Omega-7 have made the difference? I was tempted to get my bloodwork done again at my doctor to see if the results were consistent.

Omega -3 fatty acids effect triglyceride level not cholesterol. It would be important to know if you were fasting and for how long with each blood test. Labs can vary with respect to their normal limits. Continue to eat clean, exercise but wait 3 months and get a new set of blood tests.

For my annual checkup, I had no food or drink after midnight - as per doctors instructions.
For the expo screening, it was not fasted.
Does fasting result in an increase or decrease in cholesterol levels?

Fasting would decrease cholesterol levels.
