So, another attempt at this ...
I recently bought a house in Arizona and drove w/ my dad from Chicago to Phx last week and started the move-in process. The last 3 years have been V E R Y sporadic in terms of training & diet because of a shoulder injury immediately after my last show (ugh ... more than 3 years ago...), another relocation across the country and living in the city where I had to carry my work stuff & gym gear on a bum shoulder. It didn't work out very well and I never really found a gym I liked. Then I started working insane hours for about 4 months, and then worked w/ my boss to move into a different group and like my job a little more. This move enabled me to pick where ever I wanted to live and work from home, and then started the hunt for a new house & the relo process. So, 6 months later, I'm mostly settled and ready to start it up again.
I joined a local gym today, so here's where it begins. I haven't stepped on a scale in a long time, don't care. I've lost some muscle, but mostly in my delts and quads. The delts will come back pretty quickly, the quads not. That said, I'm sorta liking having smaller legs. At least my damn pants fit over the quads now.
I'd say my goals now are to get back on the wagon consistently, start building a bit / lose the fluff and then target a show in Physique. I think the BB community here in AZ is healthy and I actually know or know of a number of people who live here already.
So, to kick things off - not-heavy back & bicep day. My lower back is tweaky from 4 days in the car and unpacking, so I'm giving it some time to work itself out while I also focus on loosening up my ridiculously tight IT bands that contributed to the tweaky back in the car.
Tues (6/24/14) - Back & Bis
20 min DeFranco warmup
10 min upper body warmup (3 x 10 lb db raises -front, 45 degree, side & 3x cable In & Out - to the front, the rear, both arms)
HS high row - 45s/15 x 3 -- I cannot believe this gym has every Hammer Strength available EXCEPT a plate loaded iso-row machine... and also doesnt' have enough or big enough cable frames for lat & bi work)
machine row (it sucked): 100 lb/10 x 3
1 arm DB row: 75/5 x 3 - these weren't impressive, but I did 'em
Dickersons: 30/15 x 3
ezbar 21s: 30/7-7-7 x 3
seated db curls: 20/5 x 3 -- sucked ass because of my perpetual tendonitis in the right elbow
hi cable bis: 30/15 x 3 -> burn out 20/15->10/20
10 min foam roller w/ a dead foam roller (mine is still in transit w/ the rest of my stuff the movers took)
10 min cardio to stretch / cool down
Nothing amazing, but it felt so good to get back in the gym and start working the kinks out from this move. Long time coming. I expect I will "feel" this workout when I try to get out of bed Thursday morning.....

This is so cool. I have been fighting a move and differant job responsibilities and can feel what you are saying. I think I am just now getting things under control and I moved mid August last year.
Metroplex Phoenix? I am "Friends" with the gym on Facebook and it seems they have a great gym/group there.
Good luck. CalGone but not forgotten, I remember you too Dookie!

Thx Cal! Yea, seeing that I'm coming up on the big 5-0 and I'm not a young Silicon Valley tech geek, I need some new stuff on my resume. I've been doing the same client-facing stuff for 7 years - don't get me wrong - I've been the dedicated Sr. Tech / Solution Architect for our largest clients - we just re-signed one of them for a 3 yr / $10MM contract - but the stuff I do really ends up being mostly FTP'ing files, troubleshooting shit data they originated or talking the client down from some crazy, highly uninformed and usually non-secure data thing they want rigged up. It may help them, but it doesn't do much for my future except burn me out via boredom and agony of dealing w/ non-tech marketing people w/ no clue. This new gig is slow getting started but its everything I want to be involved in. Good stuff Maynard! And the opportunity to work from home is HYUGE. My last position I worked out of the office, but there was no real reason. I worked from home most of January this year because of the weather, and it really didn't make a big fat diff where I worked from.
I joined a smaller, independent gym in Scottsdale. I heard Metroflex will be relocating and hopefully getting new eqpt. I may check out at least one more local gym because the one I joined has a couple shortfalls that really drive me nuts so I know I will need an alternative.
Really excited to get back into it. These days my body just aches in general and I need to deal w/ that and get the physique my 30+ years of muscle maturity can dredge up w/ a little TLC!

Kitties (plural!) still spend most of their time in the closet. It helps that it is a BIG closet, but that's where they like it right now. Or under the bed. Mostly because there's nothing else to hide in or under in the rest of the house yet. They like to come out and night and play though. I also notice when I wake up, that many of my rugs - shower mats & two small rugs I am seeing if I like - all seem like someone was banking off them at a high speed, so the kids may actually be running wild after I konk out. I may have to set up some webcams to see wht happens at night.
