Was Ray Rice's punishment too light
Suspended 2 games, and I believe a 3rd game without pay.
Ray and his wife met with Roger Goddell and were very proactive since the incident.
Still, is the NFL sending the right message? Would you want more or less?Last edited by PTB; 07-25-2014 at 08:23 AM.

Hey, he knocked his wife out, it's not like he did something to get kicked out the league like smoking weed. That's the definition of sleeping with the enemy.

Too light.
Mike Freeman summed it up pretty well:
Rice will also be fined $58,000, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Over the past two seasons, he made approximately $25 million. It's like Rice punched a woman in the face, and in response the NFL wagged a finger at him before sending him off with two free tickets to Guardians of the Galaxy.

He earned $25M over two years.
That would be like getting fined $58 if you earned 25K over two years or $116 if you earned 50K over two years.
If you earn $100K over two years bump your fine to $232.
Even a $500 fine for knocking someone out and dragging them around in public and on tape seems an absurdly light punishment.
But it's not based on salary, so I Googled:
whats the fine for fighting in public didnt get arrested got a summons

If you were charged with a local ordinance for disorderly conduct the fine is usually around $300.00 and you would not have a criminal record - you would have a municipal ordinance record for two years before you could get it removed. If you are charged with a state statute violation of the 2C criminal code for disorderly conduct you are facing fines and penalties of over $600.00, you are facing up to 30 days in jail, and you would have a criminal record for five years before you could try to get it removed.

I think the suspension was pretty fair only because Ray and his wife were very proactive in reaching out to Goddell. They approached him immediately and explained what happened. In no way am I saying it makes it right but everyone has a lapse of good judgement from time to time.

Just a short time later the woman's father walked her down the aisle at her wedding.
Bull shit.
Hopefully, I'll make it to age 52 in just a few weeks and I've never had that lapse in judgement.
Oh, I've said some terrible things over the years, but lay a hand on a woman? No.
And I've been aggravated beyond the limit. As a 20 something, destroyed one of our rickety kitchen chairs instead of touching her.
Another longtime girlfriend -- all 5'3", 115 lbs. of her -- kicked me square in the chest. Drunken Fury(tm)! I held her by the wrists momentarily, but didn't knock her out. Didn't even consider it.
Wtf? Who does that?
But that's their business. That father, though. Walking his baby girl down the aisle.Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Join Rx Muscle on Facebook!

Call it anyway you want, it's an opinion. I have been physically assaulted by a 90lb woman before and left bleeding from my whole upper body. In that moment I threw her and ran. It's not always as black and white as you state. Congratulations on never losing your cool. Sometimes life isn't that simple.

Onto the bed? Off a cliff? Were there jagged rocks at the bottom of the cliff? A pool? Throwing might not be so bad.
Well, barring jagged rocks.
My opinion? It is.
That chair I mentioned would disagree. And like I said, too, I've said some horrible things you just can't take back, so "never losing your cool" probably doesn't apply. :-/
