So will this be more a remake of Mad Max... or essentially Mad Max 4, which from what I understand, they've been trying to make for a long time?

Warners and Roadshow have released a brand new synopsis for the film which also seems to confirm that despite the replacement of Mel Gibson with Tom Hardy, this is a sequel and NOT a reboot:
"MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the fourth film of George Miller‘s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller.
The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.
Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order... There's Max (played by Tom Hardy), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos.
And... Furiosa (played Charlize Theron), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.

This is meant to be kind of Mad Max 1.5, taking place between Mad Max and The Road Warrior.
Personally, I'd love to see this turn into a kind of "In-Betweener-Sequel" trilogy. What I mean is this since is between MM and TRW, a second film between TRW and Beyond Thunderdome and a third film that shows what happens post-Thunderdome.
I'm really looking forward to this.

Yeah lots of things happened "apparently" between MM and TRW that were someone explained in the opening narration to TRW... but even them I'm not sure.... in Mad Max, I'm not sure if war - particularly nuclear war had already taken place and we saw a decaying outskirts of society trying to hold on (it's not like it took place in major Australian city like Sydney or Melborne), or was war imminent.
If this film can further bridge that gap, then I'll see it for sure.Last edited by PTB; 07-28-2014 at 03:19 PM.

I don't care if it's a prequel, a sequel, a reboot, a reimagining, part 1.5, part 4, or part 82... this looks like brutal fun!
