Default Smooth Sailor Back on the Fitness Journey!

    Hey everyone!

So I use to be on here heavily a while back before I became a sailor. The girls on here were so supportive and motivating. That's why I'm back!
While in bootcamp, I managed to pick up 10 of the 110 lbs (I'm 5'10, 185 lbs now) I lost to even join the military. We were under constant stress and the food wasn't the healthiest compared to how clean I ate before.

Now I'm out and trying to get my weight back down, so I need some serious help. I am looking for an online trainer at the moment to help me map out my meals. We barely have time for anything here in our training school, so it's been cereal (nature valley granola) and 2 boiled eggs for breakfast, spinach wraps with turkey, veggies, and chipotle sauce with honeydew on the side for lunch, and some type of sandwich bagged meal for dinner. I pack apples, oranges, and quest bars for snacks in between. Drink 1 gal water daily.

Because of duty days and watches, I only get to work out 4-5x weekly, (and usually about 5 hours of sleep every night because of watch and duty days) Other than mandatory PT twice a week, I usually do the stairmill (65 steps/min) for 30 minutes followed with 15 in the sauna. On weekends I run 2 miles and lift for about an hour.

I can elaborate more if needed for anyone interested in taking on my case, lol!

    THANK YOU!

    Sierra

Welcome to RX Girl!!! There are many threads on diet gurus and I am sure girls here can make suggestions to you! Can you afford to pay someone to diet and/or train you?

It depends on how much we're talking about, but I am expecting to pay something if I want someone good. Any recommendations?

Step one: Make your own food and whatever you do, don't eat in the galley!

Do you want offseason or contest prep or both? You can expect to pay anything from $600-$1500.

Welcome back, I am in the Army, 49 and still on active duty. I hate to say it but you now have a responsibility......you have made an effort like no one else just to get in to the Navy. Getting in shape like you did deserves a great congratulations, the responsibility is to now be an example for the young Sailors who think they don't have to work at fitness.

I am pushed everyday by young Soldiers, it is hard but it keeps me on my toes. Good luck and hard work......because to keep this lifestyle going takes work not luck! Later, Cal

Breakfast isn't too bad in the galley. It's the only thing that's predictable and I can stay pretty clean there. But my issue is the fact that the rest of the meals are so unpredictable and no where near as clean as I'd like to be eating. It's difficult but I know I can do it with some guidance!

Is that per month? I won't have time to compete since I'm deploying soon, so I'm just looking for an online trainer that I can report to daily and help me with my food to make sure I stay on track. It's like I can stay on track better when I have someone to report to. If that makes sense.

That's inspiring! Thank you for that! How did you manage to eat clean on deployments? I already know it's going to be difficult on a ship when we're out 6-8 months at a time and the only options are what they offer in the galley. Any feedback is appreciated!

We always had a salad bar with chopped chicken....I ate that a lot. There is always tuna around, the chow or mess would always make egg white omelets. I could even get a fairly decent meal out of an MRE.....just read the labels. There will most likely be 80-100 calorie yogurt available too for when you get a craving. I would build in a "Refeed" day, (Cheat day) so you don't have to fixate on the pie selection.

You will be able to do it!

Man, it's funny you mention the salad because that's exactly what I had for lunch today! Dinner was a screw up (turkey wings and a 7 bean soup) but I won't beat myself up about it and do better tomorrow. I'll definitely stick to the salads for lunch and dinner, and make sure to have protein shakes in between and stick some apples in my pocket for a snack. Breakfast was eggs, oatmeal with pb, and a bowl of berries with 1/2 cup yogurt. Thank you for your advice and encouragement!
