Great interview! I was shocked when I saw Dona onstage last weekend. I recognized her right away and said, "Is that Dona Olivera?" She looked fantastic! What a great comeback. P.S. - Dona won the NPC USA in '85, not '86. The USA champions from 1985 went to the World Games that year and were able to win their pro cards if they won the IFBB World Games. Back then, winning the overall at the USA did not earn you a pro card. David Hawk won his pro card that year by first winning the overall at the NPC USA and then winning the light heavyweight class at the World Games. That was also the same contest where Berry DeMey beat Matt Mendenhall in the heavyweight class and Berry earned his pro card also.

That is probably one of the coolest things this year ... Very cool to see so many of the BB ladies coming back. Dona looked amazing and like everyone says - amazing symmetry!

After Dona won the USA overall she began to get magazine coverage. But after she won the 1988 IFBB Pro Worlds (which was a contest on par with the Ms. International) she really began to get almost monthly coverage in all the magazines. My file on her is several inches thick with magazine covers, training articles, profiles, and lots of foreign coverage in magazines in England, France, Germany, among others. Dona's photo coverage in FLEX at that time was super. And she came along at the perfect time as Cory was winding down her Olympia efforts and Lenda Murray was emerging. That was a magical time in women's bodybuilding when FLEX, Muscular Development, Ironman and Muscle Mag - in addition to Women's Physique World - were all running female bodybuilders on their covers.
It was truly heart-warming to see Dona come back looking like she hadn't aged a day. Big ups Dona.................

Dona Oliveira is a legend. What a great comeback. This has to be one of the longest gaps between competitions. Recently, we have have Valerie Gangi and Jacque Till make comebacks in other divisions like Figure and Physique.
These classic pics are among my favorites. Very impressive even among today's standards.

I hope this is not a "One and done" kind of thing? I would really like to see how she can do.
Does anyone know if she has more plans to compete?Gone but not forgotten, I remember you too Dookie!
