I wish this teacher would have put this "burden to society" out of her misery

I guess Tony (name repeated near the end of the video) was the student trying to break up the fight. He was the only responsible person there.

Agreed. But the asshole in the background who shouted " Tony, what are you doing" he's being an man amidst children......the guy who wanted them to fight, he's probably in jail on drugs, gun, battery charge, take your pick, even way, you can't go wrong.

It's not like the girl was in fear of her life.

In all reality, disregarding the teacher aspect, I am SURE the girl deserved it and worse.

The girl DID throw a book at her too.

Baltimore Teacher Placed On Leave After Fight With Student

    October 16, 2014

BALTIMORE (WJZ)– A Baltimore City teacher is on administrative leave after cell phone video surfaces of her and a student fighting in the hallway. It happens at Carver Vocational-Technical High School.

Gigi Barnett reports the student is facing charges from police.

What looks like a hallway brawl between two female students at Carver Vo-Tech High in West Baltimore turns out to be a fight between a student and teacher.

Other students caught it all on cell phone video.

At one point, the teacher slams the 17-year-old student into a bank of lockers, telling her, “this isn’t a game. I’ll kill you in here.”

A couple of male student try to break the brawl with no success.

How it all started? Witnesses say the student pushed some chairs in the teacher’s direction and later threw a book at her.

Some parents say the teacher “simply reacted.”

“Somebody throw something at me, that’s just your natural reaction. Like I said, to defend yourself, it depends on the situation cause no one is going to just stand there and let someone assault them,” said Tanya Thompson, Baltimore City parent.

Others believe the teacher should have used other methods to control the student.

“I think she could have done it in a more professional way,” said Earl Halstead, Baltimore City parent. “If there were no weapons or nothing involved, I feel the teacher could have tamed the student better than she did.”

The teacher is currently on administrative leave, and the student is facing assault charges.

In a statement to Eyewitness News, school spokeswoman Edie House writes:
“Baltimore City Public Schools takes extremely seriously any incident that disrupts the learning environment and threatens the safety and well-being of students, staff or any member of a school community.

As facts of this incident are established, city schools has taken and will continue to take all appropriate action according to its personnel policies and the student code of conduct.”

Baltimore City police are investigating the fight, and the school district has launched an internal investigation.

    Wow.

It's a job to have patience... to show respect in the face of disrespect, but from the video? It looked like a lightweight book that was casually flipped at the teacher. Not a brick-sized volume launched with murderous intent.

"I'll kill you in here"? Seriously? I hope the teacher has an otherwise exemplary record.

I honestly don't think she needs more than suspended leave.

My mom was a teacher. Some of those kids are flat out evil and bank on you not being able to touch them as they threaten you.

Correct. That's why they do what they do. Because, you can't give them "real punishment" for anything at school. They've tied the teachers' hands, while the students have license to cause chaos. A couple of days home suspension or detention is not much of a determent anymore.

^This. I like the audio clip where it says that the parents admit that their daughter "POSSIBLY threw a book at the teacher" -lol. I teach some umnnn... less than wonderful kids myself, and at a certain point, you have to say to yourself, forget the teacher/student thing, should any person be allowed to teach another in this manner? The whole "you can't touch me/I'll get you fired" attitude some of these kids harbor is a bullshit excuse to act in a manner that would not fly anywhere else in the world.

There's no argument from me on that observation, but telling a student you'll kill them or slamming them into lockers will not fix that problem.

I'll celebrate 12 years as an inner-city school teacher in November. I know the behaviors and try my best to respond professionally and in a caring manner.

We clearly don't see the full picture in the video, but it doesn't paint the teacher in a favorable light.

    S
    Definitely.

And I share that with my students when it's needed. A student was refusing to cooperate and I gave the example, "If I get pulled over by the police for speeding, I don't give them lip. I have my license and registration ready."

Later on the student shared that he had three family members... one was in prison, one was getting out soon, and another was about to go in. Sometimes there's a reason a child is acting out. Is that an excuse? No. But it's definitely a factor.

If a person doesn't have the ability to maintain their composure in the face of seemingly insane behavior then they need to apply to a different district or seek different employment.

Do I want this teacher fired? No.

But she needs some instruction, counseling, pep talk, or a professional development before returning to the classroom.

"Yo, try not to threaten the students with death, okay?"

I bet the student thinks twice before approaching her off campus.

I just can't feel bad about what she did. That's why I'm not a teacher.

Also did you see how huge the other male students looked compared to the teacher? They need an NFL team working security with permission to tackle.
