I know we all watched it already via internet stream, but perhaps the network big wigs just took it all in, and decided it wouldn't bring enough of an audience to warrant actual air time.

Sure you and I are fans of the sport, but consider how small a percentage of the typical TV viewing audience we comprise.

Wouldn't surprise me if it were just that simple.

Nobody watches NBCSN, it's not like this would have hurt ratings for the network. I had heard it was just not airable with the content they got.

So here is the story:

NBC shot the O. Tons of footage. Unfettered access. HHH at the mic doing commentary.

When they showed the finished product to the guys at AMI everyone was astounded by almost all the footage being straight-on stage footage. HHH had been cut out, and the quality overall was low. AMI opted not to release it as is, and instead will use all the footage to do something cool for the FLEX and Muscle & Fitness site. I heard this from an AMI employee who visited us... We are buying an ad package for both digital and print next year.

This decision wasn't made lightly as they knew everyone would be bummed. It happened at the last minute. REALLY REALLY shitty for bodybuilding.

Personally, I was incredibly excited for bodybuilding to be back on TV.

Hard to believe that NBC edited out everything but the straight on stage angle. No one from AMI (or with any knowledge of the sport) had any input?
