Watching that video reminds me that back then top NPC bodybuilders were a big deal.There was so much interest in the top 4 or 5 of the guys and I think the quality was such that any one of them coming into the IFBB had the potential to win their first show.There isn't as much excitement today about who the next pro is going to be,which qualifier they are doing,who their toughest competition will be etc .I randomly picked the 1999 NPC Nationals but just look at some of the names on the competitors list.

The number of good bodybuilders competing in just that one show. Fast forward to 10 years from now,I don't think there will be as many notable names when people look back at who was in the 2014 show

That's because it is comparatively SO much easier to turn Pro now...bodybuilders don't have to reach the same level of development that athletes in the 90s had to reach to get that Pro Card.

Back then, you had weight class winners from Nationals, the Overall USA and Overall North American winner that got Pro Cards in the US...and that was IT.

Now, Weight classes from every National level show, Masters, etc...

The talent pool is completely diluted.
