Default Do amount of sets matter?

"This is the right amount of sets or you overtrain" or "No, that's not too much, you need more sets"?

Imo, taking that muscle to the limit with the heaviest weight with good form on the third or fourth set is the way. Basically, 12 sets for small body parts and 16-18 for bigger. I like to rest less, being that I LIVE for the pump and it's a good signal for me. Anyway, how do you

I dont think there is a definitive answer. Some guys do great with tons of sets/volume...some do better with HIT type training ! Nowdays...i mix it up.Low reps, high reps, low volume, higher volume..

I am happy just to do any types of sets anymore and I go for the pump, with volume and intensity, mixing it up depending on how I feel.

dorian yates style training, but I do the last 2 sets to failure in the 8-13 rep range, I deadlift/squat as well, but since I prolapsed my disc l5/s1 sometimes I don't dead/squat, and it was'nt the yates training style that caused the injury, I was getting ready for my 1st strongman comp

I agree with Anth. There is no right amount. Not only is it an individual thing, but I believe you have to change it from time to time.

Currently I'm doing low volume, high frequency.

Each BP gets trained five times in a two week period.

It's been awesome for my strength.

Gotta feel that pump, it's usually around 3 to 4 set range.

I feel that higher volume gets the deeper fibers

Is this based on anything, or just a personal anecdote?

And to answer to the original question, no it does not.
As long as there is some sort of progression pattern in your training that's pretty much all that matters.

And just to make sure someone doesn't start nitpicking on the subject, I'm speaking from natural trainee's point of view.

I'm sorry but that "ít's all about the pump" is just ignorant nonsense.
