As a guess, I'll go with it's just cool. Check out the logo at the link above. KS... same letters as Steve's initials. And the kingsnake uses constriction to kill its prey. Maybe a spin on pythons.

The Kingsnake name was used during his Musclemayhem days but before that he used the screen name on a muscle car forum because he loved Cobras. Mystery solved!
