An idea just occurred to me: RE: Contest Coverage

I was sitting here in between bites of rice and a perfectly grilled filet, and a proverbial light bulb just lit above me. Granted most light up only to quickly burst, but I digress...

It is easy to understand the high costs associated with RX covering all, or even any contest all around the country. Travel costs, food, tickets, etc, all prove quite the budget crusher.

Perhaps there's a way to mobilize ther site membership, many of whom regularly attend the shows themselves and whom live all over the States.

Instead of Dave and Co. traveling everywhere, how about starting a thread about all upcoming NPC shows, and asking who plans on going, anyway. Then, request said member go to that show - perhaps you'll pay their ticket fee - and do a play by play, and take cell-phone footage of the posedown, for instance.

The compensation for going to a show one was going to anyway need not surpass the already proposed ticket entry fee, and perhaps a meal in between prejudging and finals if RX is so inclined.

Leverage the members and cover all angles at a relative fraction of current costs.

I hear you on liability, but I imagine with there being none of us on payroll, this being strictly voluntary, and members simply sending in photos they took, there shouldn't be much risk. That said, my professional field is not law.

And, to your credit, those are high quality pics that, along with a short play-by-play blurb like Dave does, would work, especially for small shows, I'd imagine.

Actually, that was you agreeing with an Rx Muscle Forums member who also happens to be an MD forums super moderator.

MPJ knows more about this than I do however I think that there is a probable cost associated with what you suggest.
Most promoters may have video and distribution rights over any content related to a show they promote.
They may require that someone sign an agreement and pay for the right to video and distribute show content.
If someone video tapes a show and then distributes the content by posting it on a site without an agreement with the promoter then they could wind up with a legal problem.

Actually yes I do this professionally (used loosely lol) and it would be best to actually ask permission from the promoters to shoot photo & video whether it be contest coverage for sharing on this site or not. If you are shooting every competitor in photo and/or video for the purpose of selling them that's not press coverage. That said many shooting under press access also sell images for profit, which opens up another can of worms entirely. (snip)
