Default Who Is Going to Cover Amateur Bodybuilding's Various Divisions In the Future?

When I began working full time doing photo and video fitness coverage four years ago my assignments were in large part to provide video content of amateurs for select magazines. It is rare to find such opportunities now with magazines for whatever reason. I'm doing video contract assignments with amateurs for supplement companies who care less about status of the athlete versus whether or not they look good and can speak well on camera.
Rather than abandon commercial video production all together I've looked ahead and retooled with 4K ultra high definition camera technology to keep up with industry trends and provide complimentary video coverage of those athletes booking photoshoots with me. For all the back and forth here and Muscular Development forum while Flex sits amateur coverage out all together there has certainly been a sea change over the last year where nowadays virtually no average or even national level competitors are covered in video unless its a snippet from onstage or a poorly recieved interview.
For all the claims that the industry media people are committed to the sport or entertainment value for fans it doesn't seem to center around amateur athletics and surprisingly this comes at a time where there are greater numbers than ever.

I know and they are good at that ! But if I nitpick I would say that sometimes the interviews are really short. Other than that the overall content is of good quality

One thing I've learnt is that people dont like long videos no matter how educational or interesting they might seem. Personally.... I hate short interviews. But most people like them exactly how NPC news does them.

It's not bodybuilding or physique, but AMC Movie Talk on YouTube has proven that long-format videos do work. They have a daily show that covers movie news. It is typically 30 to 35 minutes in length and then they edit that into ten three-minute or three-minute something videos for those who just want to view a video on a specific topic -- Star Wars trailer, "Will there be a Calvin and Hobbes movie?", etc.

Yes but i was nitpicking. And there is a lot of videos under 2 mins sometimes under one minutes.

4/5 or even sometimes 7 mins when it is a big name in bodybuilding would be awesome. But you're right usually short videos are likes (in social media) but 3 to 4 mins is not considerated as long, it's still short ? Isn't it ? But you might be right I was just expressing personal preference

    1. They have those?
    2. AMC Movie Talk is expanding and, again, certainly has great success with a longer video format.

As noted by Adweek, which follows statistical industry trends stated three minutes is best. This really has little to do with Dave Palumbo's internet television programming, but more to do with videos generally run as stand alone content on youtube for instance. Surely "Hollywood" as Fox News pundits like to call movie production houses are increasingly moving longer play content to the web. However, production credits are much lengthier and much better produced as are Dave's shows than the average 15-30 minute one camera angle, poorly lit, average sound optimized HD video. Quick to the point keeps the average user watching from their work computer or on their cellphone happy. They often won't even click on such content if they see it is 5 minutes or more long. One supplement company I'm doing work for is having me trim 4 minute training videos down to two.

For my new Bodybuilding Legends Show on FloridaPhysique.com, the interviews have been about 90 min long. The idea of the show is to talk extensively with the champion bodybuilders from the '70's, '80's and '90's and go into detail about their competitive careers and the bodybuilders they competed against and trained with. I am now splitting the interviews up into two parts and will also have the shows available in podcast for those who want to listen to them instead of watch them. The people who have watched the shows love them for the detailed interviews. I'm not going to make them shorter and compromise on the quality. However, on our training videos for FloridaPhysique.com, we have recently shortened them from 8 min long to only 2 min long because, as mentioned previously, people won't watch them if they are longer than a couple minutes. There are good and bad points about the internet age but the growing attention span deficit is one of the negatives.
