As much as I'd love to see squat too, you just know there will be a ton of folks calling a quarter squat 'a squat'. It would probably be a huge pain in the ass for Dave, Amanda, Johnny and company to judge that, on top of all the calls for squat depth that folks would try to fight. I've heard Dave say innumerable times with the bench press for reps "all the way down', "all the way and touch the chest", etc. I know of no federation, anywhere, that allows a bench rep to be called a rep when it hasn't even approached an inch from the chest. I think dave's standards and rules are very fair.

No matter what though, this is going to be epic. Love the freak factor and numbers that Akim and Collette Nelson bring. Sucks because I would drive to NY for this, except I'm working that weekend. Is it 65% of bodyweight and 185lb deadlft for women?

The BvP's where I've seen the squat(and imho, the best BvP was #3 WITH the squat), they've been more strict in calling a squat a squat than say with bench press... The last one I was at in Maplewood, guys in the audience shocked on how some of those "reps" shouldn't have been counted, so I don't see it being any different here.
Also I've seen several injuries and near injuries from the bench event than the squat... but then again, the squat is so rarely used, it could be just the numbers.
And if they want strict reps counted, can't they get a good judge?
Squat is one of the big primary lifts and shows of strength. You would also have the varied styles of the powerlifter as well as the bodybuilder, as you do with the deadlift with sumo and traditional styles.

Hmm, maybe we should "ask Dave" if he would consider re-including the squat in next BvP? I agree with you about some of those bench "reps" that were counted. And I was only watching from home.
I would love to see squat included too, because a lot of people would get scared away. It ain't for pansies, for sure but another thing is that you need more spotters with squat as well. I'm not arguing against it at all. It's the lift that I owe the most too. I just am thinking about what a PITA it is logistically speaking and having been both on the platform and behind the scenes at a dozen or so meets.

Will Colette get beat this time? She does love money!
Akim promises me he's giving forth a max effort in the reps contest! And Mark Lerch is coming........so we may see a new deadlift for reps record set? Can anyone beat him?
Big Shep Ali Alston just called me and he's whining about opening up a new restaurant and not having the time to come down. Is he just afraid that Chris Lentino will beat him this time around?
