Bruce Jenner in car crash

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — Olympic gold medalist and Kardashian family patriarch Bruce Jenner was behind the wheel of an SUV involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Malibu that killed a woman and injured seven others, authorities said.

The moment of impact was captured by celebrity photographers who quickly posted the images on the Internet on Saturday, but Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials said there was no indication Jenner was being chased by paparazzi at the time of the crash on the Pacific Coast Highway.

"Being a celebrity, he is often followed by paparazzi. He was aware of that, and it doesn't appear he took any evasive action to avoid the paparazzi," Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Philip Brooks said.

Brooks said Jenner cooperated with investigators, passed a field sobriety test and voluntarily submitted a blood sample to determine whether he was intoxicated, Brooks said.

"He did not appear intoxicated or under the influence of anything at the time," the sergeant said.

Jenner's publicist, Alan Nierob, said Jenner wasn't hurt, but he offered no additional details.

Jenner was going north when his black Cadillac Escalade rear-ended a Lexus sedan that had just struck the back of a black Toyota Prius, Brooks said. The Lexus veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a black Hummer.

The driver of the Lexus — a woman in her 70s — was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators were trying to determine who or what triggered the crash; they plan to look at the cellphone records of all four drivers and check for any video evidence, sheriff's Cmdr. Michael Parker said.

Photos of the crash site showed the white Lexus mangled in the front and back, facing the Hummer, which had a heavily damaged engine and its hood popped open. Jenner's Escalade, which was pulling an off-road vehicle, had a damaged front end.

The crash occurred about a mile west of Pepperdine University, on a stretch of the famous coastal highway sandwiched between the beach and the Santa Monica Mountains.

It comes at a time of widespread talk that Jenner, 65, is becoming a woman.

Though Jenner himself has declined public comment, those in his inner circles have not challenged the mounting speculation that he is preparing to live as a woman and perhaps will appear in a new reality series about his transition.

Jenner's appearance has gradually become more traditionally feminine, and his mother, Esther Jenner, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that she had spoken with her son about his private and public journey.

Jenner won a gold medal in the men's decathlon at the 1976 Summer Games, but he is best known to a younger generation as Kim Kardashian's stepfather. He and Kris Jenner frequently appeared on the reality series "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" along with their children, and the pair's relationship and its troubles have been featured prominently on the show.

I said it. All the guys close to those women suffer the curse or whatever it is that ruins lives or causes drama for for them. Disick, Odom, that Humphries guy, the cry baby brother and now him. Lets not forget she (the mother) cheated on that Kardashian guy way back. They are no good to be around.

"My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident," Jenner said in a statement released Sunday by his publicist, Alan Nierob.

"It is a devastating tragedy, and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible."

Sad for families, but he may get off relatively scot free. This reminded me of Nicole Nagrani's case over a year ago..... she got off pretty easy as well:

On April 11, 2013, a black Porsche Cayenne SUV struck a 78-year old woman who was trying to cross the road. The victim died at the scene. The driver of the SUV was Nicole K. Nagrani.

Nicole Nagrani has become the main jewel competitor in the IFBB. Since turning pro in 2010, Nagrani has won 6 titles. Including the 2011 Ms. Bikini Olympia, the youngest person to ever win an Olympia title. She is the most requested of JM Manion’s FMG staple of models. She is also Team Bombshell’s most successful competitor.

Despite all her success, Which included various sponsorships. Nagrani’s life goal was to become a Physican. After the 2013 IFBB Australian Grand Prix, Nagrani took time off from competing. So, she could concentrate on her Pre-Med studies at Stetson University. The private institution is located just under 30 minutes near her home in Daytona Beach, Florida. Nagrani’s father is a doctor.

Nagrani was driving in Port Orange, Florida. She was heading south on South Ridgewood Avenue when she hit Port Orange resident, Leona E. Daniluk. Daniluk was trying to cross the four-lane road when Nagrani struck her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Nagrani was cited for failure to use due care toward a pedestrian and received a $166.00 citation.

According to Port Orange police reports, Nagrani, now 22, was reaching for her cellphone while driving. When she ran into Daniluk. Port Orange police also obtained a surveillance video. Which showed Nagrani had not taken evasive maneuvers. However, she was going only 30 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. Nagrani also refused to take a blood test.

On November 4, 2013, Nagrani’s hearing was held. Nagrani’s Family lawyer, Tim Herring, argued that Nagrani was not distracted by the cellphone and that Daniluk was at fault for the accident. According to Herring, the statue Nagrani was cited for should have been given to Daniluk. Herring intended that Daniluk caused the accident because she failed to yield and walked in front of the SUV.

Herring requested that the citation and charges be dropped. But, Judge Christopher Kelly rejected Herring’s request and gave Nagrani a $1,000 fine, 120 hours of community service, and her license suspended for six months. Nagrani did not attend the hearing.

Daniluk’s family believed that Nagrani got off scot-free. Daniluk’s family spokesman said the fine should had been more heavy and she should serve jail time, “We think she should get what she deserves, a fine, jail time, license suspended, this is a slap on the wrist”. Daniluk’s daughter, Tina Melincoff also commented “I feel she should have got more than what she got. My mom lost her life. It’s devastating. It’s heartbreaking”.

The SUV Nagrani was driving was owned by her father, Mark Nagrani. The Nagrani’s insurance company settled with Daniluk relatives for over $250,000.

I'm not sure Jenner's case was all that different. My daughter wasn't at fault and even if she was a transgender celebrity and a death occurred as a result of the accident I wouldn't think fault should necessarily be assumed by fans or critics of the transgender celebrity. That's not how the justice system works.

Has it been determined if Jenner was at fault?

"Jenner was driving his Escalade and was towing a trailer with an all-terrain vehicle when he ran into a white Lexus from behind, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Philip Brooks said. The Lexus spun into oncoming traffic and was hit by a Hummer H2 and the driver of the Lexus was killed at the scene. The pile up started when a Prius stopped in the northbound lanes on the PCH, according to the Sheriff’s Department."

Of course he's getting the spotlight because of his celebrity, but he also rearended the Lexus, causing it to spin into oncoming traffic.

A driver can be reasonably expected to maintain control of his or her vehicle, right? Had Jenner been driving the H2 that subsequently creamed the Lexus driver then he'd have received the spotlight for that as well. But there's a difference between hitting someone from behind and hitting someone who crossed into your path.
