Double hernia surgery
I just had double hernia surgery last Thursday and am now on the road to recovery. My question is have any of you had hernia surgery and if so how long were you out of the gym? I had the mesh put in and assume I will be out about two months but would like to hear how it has went for some of you.

I still get pain at times several years later. I wasn't back to full go for about 5 months but I wanted to train heavy too. With what you have it could be anywhere from 1-6 months is my guess.

Yea so I had a inguinal hernia on my right groin. Had the surgery December 15, 2008. I feel good. I was actually able to train light 2 weeks out. I made the mistake of doing some step up with a additional knee raises at the end that put full force on the groin area(bad idea). I'm pretty sure I strained the opposite groin side just because anytime I over use my abdominal area(can do this just by walking since you use your abdominal in almost every movement you do) it feels sore. But overall I would recommend NOT doing ANYTHING crazy or heavy or anything straining until 6 weeks. Then when you hit 6weeks work your way back(take your time, seriously) to normality.
It is soooooo tempting to do something stupid and just try and go heavy and what not. For me just being in the gym made me psycho that I couldn't hit it hard. I tempted risk and now have to take extra time to "take ti easy" for this abdominal strain to go away before I can really goo 100%.
If you play it safe for the first 6 weeks you WILL, I PROMISE not regret it in the long run. Speaking from someone who had surgery less than two months ago on a hernia.
