I'll never get it. The real villains are us the double standards having fans.People like to see stars who are supposed to be superhuman break down and show that they are actually vulnerable to the same things as the general public and they will give them hell first before acting all sympathetic.. If you don't break down they'll try and break you any which way which is what they'll do to the roid guy.

I wrote this piece and really tried to be objective while doing so, but found it difficult because of the sheer hypocrisy of how these two types of athletes are viewed. And it isn't just Hamilton and A-Rod. You can out any alleged or proven PED user up against a Ray Rice or Adrian Petersen, even, and the sports media and fans will welcome these dirtbags back with open arms (and wallets), but will boo the shit out of the guy that used a little juice.

Well said.
It all starts with the criminilization of PED's by the gov't, and goes down hill from there. We as a society are not being onest with ourselves. To blindly believe that our athletes are just that much bette than the rest of the worlds is ridiculous. We believe his myth, but as soon as one is caught so called cheating he/she is screwed for life.
The fact that most Americans think if they take a little juice they could hit home runs like Barry Bonds is ridiculous, but I have heard it a million times.
Joe,
The better question is when the basball players were called before congress to testify, why was Bud Selig given a free pass? He reaped the benefits of their so called illegal actions, but no one ever says anything negative about him.DON'T BE AVERAGE!!!

The game itself benefited from the so-called 'steroid era,' including Selig. He did get taken to task some years ago for what people believe was turning a blind eye to the obvious, but everyone involved with baseball was doing the same. I can't hang it all on the former commissioner.
What Selig did was scramble at the end and come down hard on a number of the users or accused, trying to erase some of the criticism.
Guys are still using and while the threat of suspension has probably been a deterrent to some players, it certainly has not effected all of them.
Kirk Radomski (the central figure in the MLB steroid scandal and Mitchell Report) is a columnist for MuscleSport Magazine and in our current issue, he spells out exactly how someone can take a shot of testosterone and pass a urinalysis the same day.

I wish baseball would admit that bonds, McGwire, and Sosa saved baseball.. It was ok when baseball was doubling maybe trippleing their profits.. A lot of people got rich off those men.. Barry bonds single handedly built the Giants a new stadium.. Cubs have been laughable since the sosa run. Most current cub fans have to admit the Sosa McGwire home run race will always be their favorite cub memory ever.. And McGwire is or was a beloved player in Oakland and St. Louis but now is a loser????

Fans want their athletes to be superhuman, but don't want to know what it took for their athletes to be so.

It's hard to ignore the fact that a lot of this boils down to the lack of proper education on steriods. Most have been brainwashed into believing that steriods are just the most horrible thing on earth.
It's really sad that we allow the media to tell us what's right and what's wrong. What's even worse- so many people fall for it!
