GH Guts? Nah, It's Too Much Food LOL
Pretty interesting take on the HGH guts plaguing the bodybuilding industry over at MD. In a video posted a few days ago while they were in Orlando covering the Europa, Bob Chic, Peter McGough & David Baye were discussing Lee Thompson's warning to the competitors that big guts would be reflected on their score cards.
I have the utmost respect for Peter and feel that Chic is also a great asset (conspicuously leaving out the third name), but have to take them to task for how they tried to explain the reason for the huge guts, stating that these guys eat an enormous amount of food to fill out on contest day. Baye even chimed in saying that he was a witness to one of the guys at the 2014 Olympia eating nearby the day before the show (If I remember all of the details correctly) and marveled at the amount of food this man was ingesting.
C'mon, guys. If you're not going to be up front and use the drugs as the main culprit, you're better off not even making a video like that.
But the part that I loved most was Shawn Ray's comment, which was posted on the thread. I don't know if Shawn is in town with them (Adina has been doing her best to phase him out for some time now, hence the over abundance of Baye in the spotlight), but my hat goes off to him for calling out his own 'teammates' with this:
"Did Bob just say, "Its got Nuthin to do with Drugs?"
Hello?
Its got Everything to do with Drugs and then you can mention FOOD! I've seen Bodybuilders with very little quality Muscle yet a protruding GUT just short of a Full Term Pregnancy!
We can NEVER Blame the Photographers, they need to EXPOSE these guys and SHAME them into becoming more Aware of their own personal Athletic Responsibility to be on Point every minute of the show as the Fans Pay big sums of Money to come watch them at their BEST!
Blaming the Photographers for the Athletes Protruding Guts is like Blaming them Messenger for sharing the MESSAGE!

Baye is incredibly annoying. He struggles to stay in tune with the others who are far more succinct. Tends to ramble on and on to make a half-point come out. Totally unprofessional. He just doesn't get it or have it.

Obviously making the gut issue a "drug" issue would not favor the bbing industry too much. Blaming the amounts of food seems more PC

If you watch that video I'm referring to, I almost felt sorry for Baye trying his best to get involved in the conversation & constantly nodding his head in agreement when either Bob or Peter made a comment.
His biggest contribution to the clip was when Bob chided him in a jovial manner about him not wearing backwards baseball caps or tight T-shirts moving forward.
The kid has a good build and I certainly give him credit for that. But that doesn't make him someone who has any business being a commentator or whatever he can be called. He's the product of an incompetent "hierarchy."

I think Baye is more of a "fan" than a commentator, and that is why so many over there dig him, he is like a kid in a candy store when he is on site for interviews and reports, and the readers can relate to that

That is exactly the problem. You cannot be a fan and an objective journalist - plain and simple. When I first broke into sportswriting, the season guys had a saying for us cheese dicks: "There's no cheering in the press box," and I took that seriously and have always lived by it. The first thing that I told new guys when I was an editor and getting them press passes was that and "no autographs" in case they were stupid enough to ask for one in the locker room. I guess nowadays I would have added, "no selfies with them."
Relating to someone is one thing, but when their statements are douche chill-inducing is a microcosm of the decline of an entire company when that person is part of your self-proclaimed A-Team.
If that was the case, then there should be a guest broadcaster at every Yankees home game picked randomly from the Bleacher Creatures.

I think Baye is alright. He's certainly no Peter, or Ron, or Chic, but I certainly don't hate the guy. That being said, he's lucky, and I (and many others), could probably do as good a job as he. I'm not as big though..!

It's just the nature of the sport. Anyone who follows knows that the drug issue is just accepted as part of the process. Of course advertising this to the general public isn't such a great idea, but that leads us to the question of at what point are the returns on investment not such a good thing?
Sadly, I've actually seen a few folks over the years who are huge fans of the sport, but appear (to me anyway) to truly believe that it's just the large amounts of food these guys claim to eat that results in this horrendous look.
