I wear my Granny polar heart rate monitor now...Depends on whether i'm cutting (what nutrition plan I'm following) and if its to make a weight class, get on stage or make my heart and lungs (my power output greater).
If my nutrition is low carb and I want to get on stage or cut for a weight class, I use step mill or put treadmill on an incline of 8-10 and walk that incline at a 3-3.5 clip adding 5 min per week and start at 3 sessions of 20-25 min per week up to 3x per day depending on how I look keeping HR about 120, Dave Palumbo style.
If it's not stage or platform season, I pull a weighted sled, going from empty 75lb sled, up to 225 lbs, about 10x, heavy yoke walks, walking lunges, weighted vest on step mill, strongman implements….that sort of thing.

Depends on the person or situation but I would in most cases add HIIT before SS cardio. You get more bang for your buck.

Totally agree that HIIT is a must before SS cardio. Much more effective.
