**IRON DEBATE** TODAY - 4:00 PM (EST) - RXMuscle.com
Iron Debate :: 4 PM (EST) :: RXMuscle.com
Iron Debate is LIVE at a special time, 4 pm (EST), as Dave and Chris welcome the highly revered industry veteran Jerry Brainum into the fold.
Here's what we're debating tomorrow:
1. When a competitor wins the MR OLYMPIA contest—the greatest bodybuilding title in the world- they receive the coveted Sandow Trophy. Currently, on EBAY, someone is selling one of the SANDOWS. The bidding is starting at $10,000. The seller refuses to release his identity. Is this disrespectful to the Weider legacy and the history of the Mr Olympia..Or is it a case of just another broke athlete selling their championship “ring”?
2. With all the self-proclaimed GURUS in the bodybuilding world…….guys who claim to be the most knowledgeable coaches in the business…what does it mean when these individuals post up (on social media) NUTRITION TIPS OF THE WEEK that are either not accurate, scientifically incorrect, or just downright embarrassing?
3. What’s the best diet—macronutrient wise—to lose body fat? Are the insanely high carb diets that some of the top pros claim to use send the wrong message to most competitors who don’t have their incredible genetics?
4. What are the 3 most effective performance enhancing drugs that a competitor can use to get ready for a bodybuilding competition, and why?
5. Who was the best and worst magazine publisher over the years? Why?

Yeah, MMI was a really fun magazine. Best of all time. I got my start there 18 years ago. Did the first piece on Synthol (Pump 'n Pose by inventor Chris Clark).
FLEX used to be really cool when ex-HUSTLER editor, Jerry Kindela, ran it. Visually, it just rocked. Also very fun.
But again, I don't think anyone can do a better of turning a boring ass "sport" like bodybuilding and transform it into a full featured, sport-like presentation than MMI's Johnny Fitness and Bob. They could make table tennis exciting.
My, how things have truly fallen.

I heard Bob used to smash all those thick bitches. Good for him!

I remember in the 1980's Muscle and Fitness, Joe Weider stood in front of hundreds of Sandow statues that he was selling through the magazine. If it was ok for Joe to be selling them off the assembly line while giving one each year at the Mr. Olympia, I guess it's ok to sell one on Ebay. What I would want to know is if the one on Ebay was won in competition and by whom or is it one sold by Weider in the 80's. The value would be different at least to me. ie I would love to own the statue , Sandow himself gave out at the 'first' bodybuilding competition in the 1900's which eventually was given to Steve Reeves for winning the 1950 Mr. Universe.

I posted similar pics earlier in the Sandow thread, but I had the year wrong. Thought it was 1948, but you're right, Reeves took the overall in '50. Good stuff!
You should post more often. ;-)
Hopefully in a museum somewhere. The Todds may have them by now?Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Join Rx Muscle on Facebook!

1. Is this disrespectful to the Weider legacy and the history of the Mr Olympia(snip)?
How do we know it was a former Olympian? Why couldn't it have been a Sandow that was produced, shelved or put on display, and then forgotten about?
Joe died March 23, 2013. Ben died October 17, 2008. They didn't have a Sandow somewhere? No one had access to their belongings? A huge staff, I'm guessing, with little accountability.
You can't reasonably limit the possible eBay salesperson to an Olympian.
2. what does it mean (snip)?
That a lot of people are trying to grab clients in any way they can.
3. What’s the best diet(snip)?
Chris just stated in his Q&A, "ultimately ( I feel) its a combo of fewer calories and severe lower carbs that are required to get ripped. FOr me 100 carbs is pretty low but some guys I work with can get ripped on 220 to 275"
And Dave's keto works.
5. Who was the best and worst magazine publisher over the years? Why?
Best was Bob Hoffman. Because he had John C. Grimek and Don "The Ripper" Ross writing for him.
I would have said Robert Kennedy, but he ignored the Interwebz and he had Jeff Maltby working for him. Maltby is a giant douchebag.
Worst? Man, I loved all the mags. There was no worst. I probably picked up Iron Man the least when they started doing the multiple-part articles continued from issue to issue. I like stand alone articles with some good supporting pics. Who wants to pick up an issue of IM and find part 32 of some series by Ron Harris? I like Ron's writing but if you didn't subscribe to their mag you were getting bits and pieces.
